Chapter 72 - 72

Chapter 72 – Unexpected Twist

The night sky over Seoul, usually unremarkable, sparkled more brightly than usual tonight. The stars seemed to know that something special was about to happen. On the rooftop of a luxurious hotel in Gangnam, Mi Yong stood gracefully, inspecting the final setup. Fairy lights circled the rooftop area, white peonies decorated a dinner table for two, and the evening breeze carried the scent of aromatherapy candles.

"Is everything ready?" Jiwan asked, approaching from behind with a glass of mocktail in hand.

Mi Yong nodded. "I just hope this goes smoothly. Gevran is really serious this time."

Tonight was no ordinary night. It was the night Gevran Yi Jido—crazy rich kid, young CEO, owner of SeoulPot, and icon of Korean university students—would officially confess his first love. After weeks of trying—light chats, awkward dinners with Ah Yoon's retired general father—he finally mustered the courage to take a big step.

Meanwhile, in his dorm, Gevran stared at his reflection in the mirror. A custom-made black suit from his favorite brand fit him perfectly, his hair slicked back, a luxury watch wrapped around his left wrist.

"This is more nerve-racking than pitching ASTRA," he muttered, giving himself a stiff smile before taking a deep breath.

"Hyung!" his younger brother Kaeyan's voice echoed from outside his room. "Your car's ready at the lobby!"

Gevran picked up a small navy-blue box from the table—a pendant engraved with the initials 'A' and 'G,' the symbol of his heart's intention tonight.

Time ticked on at the rooftop. Mi Yong checked her watch. "He should've arrived by now…"

But at that moment, something happened. Gevran had just stepped out of the elevator onto the rooftop when he saw something by the balcony that made his steps freeze.

Ah Yoon. Standing there. But not alone.

She was with a man—clean-cut, wearing a university jacket, gently brushing her hair. They laughed softly. The man handed her something—a flower.

Gevran stood frozen. The sounds of the rooftop, the wind, even his heartbeat—all seemed to stop. The pendant box in his hand suddenly felt heavy, like a stone he wanted to throw as far away as possible.

He stepped back slowly. Not wanting to be seen. Not wanting to look any longer. He re-entered the elevator, pressed the button to descend, and leaned against the mirrored wall.

His tears didn't fall. But the emptiness in his eyes said it all.

---

The next day, G-Force gathered on campus. But one person was missing—Gevran.

"He didn't come to class," Eunwoo said, checking his phone. "And he hasn't been online since last night."

Jiwan frowned. "That's strange. He never misses class without a reason."

Haesung suddenly got a call from the Yi family secretary. "Wait… seriously? His family was called to campus?"

Everyone looked at each other. Mi Yong stood up instantly. "Something's wrong."

---

At the Yi residence, the atmosphere was tense. Yi-Ana, his mother, stood in front of Gevran's room door, knocking gently.

"Gevran. Mama knows you're in there."

No reply.

"You're not alone. Whatever happened, you can talk about it…"

Inside, Gevran sat leaning against the wall, staring at the ceiling. The pendant box still sat untouched on his bedside table. He hadn't eaten. Hadn't spoken to anyone.

"So this is what heartbreak feels like?" he whispered to himself. "Funny. For the first time, I feel like a normal human."

---

That man wasn't her brother. He was someone worse.

The sky over Seoul turned cloudy, mirroring Gevran's shattered heart. The night that was supposed to be special had become a wound he never expected.

He returned home without a word, staring blankly out his window. His phone buzzed nonstop—messages from Jiwan, Mi Yong, even his mother, Yi-Ana. But he replied to none of them.

---

The next morning, the atmosphere in the Yi household was different. Quiet. Tense. Kaeyan sat in the living room, glancing at the staircase that hadn't brought his brother down.

"He's still not out?" Yi-Ana asked worriedly.

"No, Mom. I think… he's really heartbroken."

Soon, there was a knock at the door. Jiwan came with Mi Yong, Haesung, and Eunwoo. They barged in with the force only real friends have.

"Let us try to talk to him," Jiwan said firmly.

---

They found Gevran still in his black hoodie, face disheveled, eyes swollen.

"I saw her that night," Gevran said quietly.

"And…?" Mi Yong asked gently.

"She was holding his hand. Not a brother. Not a 'just friend.' The way she looked at him—it wasn't the way she ever looked at me."

Haesung lowered his head. "I'm sorry, bro…"

"She said 'I want to focus on studying for now,' but turns out, she was already close to someone else," Gevran continued. "So all this time… was I just a shadow?"

Eunwoo sighed. "Sometimes… feelings aren't returned. But that doesn't mean those feelings were wrong."

Jiwan nudged his shoulder. "And it doesn't mean you failed."

"I just… wasn't ready. I thought after everything I've been through, I was immune to pain. But this is different."

"Because this is the first time you truly liked someone," Mi Yong said wisely.

Gevran stared out the window. "Why does it hurt more than anything I've ever been through?"

"Because this is about your heart, not about winning," Jiwan answered.

---

That night, his friends stayed over. They laughed, played games, even had a mini karaoke session in the living room. They made the broken Gevran smile again, even if just for a moment.

And in the middle of the night, after everyone had fallen asleep, Gevran opened his phone. He stared at the photo he hadn't sent: the pendant with the initials A and G.

Then he deleted it. Slowly. But surely.

And in that moment, he knew: he had to learn to let go.

---

Two days later, campus buzzed with rumors. Students and professors alike asked: Where is Gevran Yi Jido? The genius student, symbol of the new generation… had suddenly vanished from lectures.

But that afternoon, footsteps echoed in the main hall corridor.

Gevran appeared.

No longer burning with energy. But with a new calm—and wounds that had started to heal.

He walked toward the cafeteria. There, sitting alone—Ah Yoon.

When she saw Gevran, she slowly stood up. No smile. Just silence.

"I know you saw me that night," Ah Yoon said.

Gevran nodded. "And I know, you didn't do anything wrong."

"He… was the guy I liked since high school," she continued. "We broke up because he moved abroad. And now he's back."

"Why didn't you tell me from the start?" Gevran's voice nearly trembled.

"Because I thought… my feelings for him were gone. But turns out, they weren't."

Gevran looked at her for a long time. He wanted to be angry. To yell. But he knew—this wasn't anyone's fault.

"Thank you," he said quietly.

Ah Yoon stayed silent.

"For making me feel… alive," Gevran continued. "Even if just for a while."

He turned away. Leaving that table.

Not as a winner. But as someone stronger.

---

And as the sky over Seoul cleared again, Gevran looked at the sun with a faint smile.

Sometimes, first heartbreaks aren't meant to be regretted.

But to be learned from.

Because from them, we understand:

Love isn't about being accepted or rejected.

It's about having the courage to try.

And Gevran had tried.
