The Contractor was gone.
The mirror chamber—once the heart of control—lay in ruins. Only fragments remained, glowing faintly with residual soul light.
Lu Feng knelt beside the largest shard. In its cracked reflection, he saw no other selves. Only him.
"I'm not a tool," he whispered. "Not a vessel. Just… Lu Feng."
Behind him, Kai Lin approached.
"It's over," she said softly.
He turned, exhaustion lining his face, but his eyes steady.
"No. It's just beginning."
---
The Bureau began its most radical transformation.
The Soul Market was disbanded. The Tribunal's remaining data was opened to the public. Victims were identified, names restored.
And at the center of it all were two names never spoken publicly—but known by every agent:
Kai Lin.
Lu Feng.
---
One month later.
A new Spirit Division Hall was completed. In its atrium stood two plaques.
One read:
> "Those who fought the silence."
The other:
> "Those who broke the mirror."
Kai Lin stood beside Lu Feng in front of the statue.
She glanced at him. "You ready for normal cases again?"
"Demons. Ghosts. Haunted vending machines? Bring it on."
She smiled.
As they walked away, the sun broke over the Bureau dome, casting long light through the glass.
They were still spirit detectives.
Still hunting shadows.
But now, they did it in the light.
Together.
