"Remember Bida, a hero isn't the strongest you can find in the room but the one with virtue and discipline." The words of my grandfather echoes to my head as I wake up to a new day.
"Wake up Bida!! or do you want to stand to stand in the hall!!" A loud voice also echoes in the room and I find myself sleeping in the classroom with my classmates all laughing as the teacher shouts my name.
"I'm very sorry ma'am, my mind must have been wandering at the moment." I said as I look at my friend who didn't wake me up when the teacher arrived and noticed that he was also sleeping and have just woken up to the scream as well.
"Go stand in the hallway for the rest of my class!" Our teacher shouts once again.
...
"I'm sorry man, I know was supposed to be the lookout this morning but I might have spent the whole night playing again yesterday so I must have fallen asleep aswell." Nira apologized to me.
I look at him and noticed a little smirk, 'This guy is holding his laughter isn't he?'
"It's fine, I was just given a 300 words assignment that needs to be passed tomorrow as a punishment." I just let go of today's little incident since it wasn't much a big of a deal. I'll just hope that our teacher forgets his punishment for me tomorrow.
"I know I'll make it up to you, let's go to the festival area and I'll buy you anything you want as long as it is worth 5 coins or below." Nira taps my shoulder and started to drag me around.
It is the month of August and it is the time where we have a fiesta. Some stalls also appear in an open area in our town selling all kinds of stuff. Nira and I likes to check for whether something interesting will appear after the end of our class.
We usually don't buy anything since most of things they sell is either overprice or fake. Most of the price also starts at 10 coins so I know Nira was lying when he said he will buy me anything.
Once we arrived at the festival area, we checked to see if there are some new stalls or vendors that wasn't here yesterday. The festival games also starts at night so there isn't much to do but just check for something to buy.
"Man, let's come back tonight and just play some festival games." Nira said to me.
"Hey I think there is something in that corner." I noticed a new stall and decided to check it out.
It was an accessory stall composing of rings, earrings, mask, necklace, scarf, belt, and many more.
"What would you like to buy young man?" The old man sitting next to it asked.
"Nothing we are just looking around." I answered.
"Well if something piques your interest or catches your attention, just tell me." The old man closes his eyes and looks like he is going to sleep.
"Come on, let's go before he forces us to buy something." Nira said to me.
"Wait, come check some of the accessories, aren't some of them cool?" I told him while looking at some of them. There is this one ring that has a snake biting its own tail. A mask with red eyes that gives off some kind of dangerous feeling. There was a lot of other items that was interesting that even Nira also stop for a moment to take a look.
There is this one item though that interests me the most is an circular necklace with five interlocking segment with animals in each segment. A shark swimming in the water, an eagle soaring in the sky, a tortoise with a small forest in it's back, a lion with the mane looking like the sun, and a firefly leaving a trail of light behind.
I wanted to touch just to feel it around my fingers but suddenly the old man spoke.
"Don't touch it unless you want to buy it." I didn't noticed when the old man was watching us but I quickly retracted my hand before we unintentionally need to buy something that we can't afford.
"What is the price for this necklace?" I couldn't help but ask since I would really like to get it even though I have no use for it and don't intend to wear it but it would look great when I hang in my room.
"Hmm, this is not called a necklace but an amulet. I would sell this for you for just 5 coins. You are the first customer that I have since I've come here so I am feeling generous." I quickly smiled when hearing the price, that seems like a very huge discount and I could tell that the amulet is a good item from the material and arts in it. I also remember that Nira promised me that he'll buy me anything if it's 5 coins or below.
I look at Nira and he sigh and handed me 5 coins.
"Here's the payment, are you sure though that you would sell it for just 5 coins?" I asked the old man.
"You don't want to, I could raise the price if you want." The old man replied.
"No, the price is just fine and I'll take it." I gave him the coins and he stood up and took the amulet from the stall and put it in my arms.
"I pass the ownership to you, from this day onwards you shall be the owner of the Amulet of the Five Guardian." The old man then went back to where he was sitting and closed his eyes once again.
Nira walk towards the old man and said "I also want to buy this bandana."
Nira pointed at a bandana with a red sun and blue moon. I could say that it does look cool and I know why Nira wants to buy it.
The old man once again opened his eyes. "I would sell that to you for 100 coins."
"What? But you sold an amulet for my friend for just 5 coins?" Nira was surprised by the sudden huge increase of the price.
"He was my first customer so I sold it at the price I want, now all the price goes back to normal."
Nira was irritated by the answer and just decided to leave. I followed right behind him and didn't stick any longer before the old man also change his mind and charge me the full price.
