Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

MARINA

To be sincere, Mr Torricelli's stare is making me feel a little bit weird.

 Is my clothing okay.

Is he looking at how fat or thick I was.

 Does he think I'm weird?

Can you stop overthinking? He's just staring no big deal. Ana said she is my subconscious or the other me. She is the one I talk to whenever I feel lonely."

Brace yourself girl he is just a normal person like you, no need to fret, just talk to him like a civilised person.

"Do you want some cookies or cupcakes, sir?" I asked Mr. Torricelli carefully with my voice a little bit low.

"Sure, I'll have the cookies," he said with a smile as he fully entered the kitchen. He settled on another barstool, looking at me silently.

I immediately picked up a plate and served him some cookies, I felt my hand tremble as I passed the plate to him.

"Thank you," he said as he collected the plate.

"Mom, you aren't having any," Vincent said as he brought his cupcake close to my lips, wanting to feed me. I already forgot they were in the room when I saw their father staring.

"Thank you, baby." I opened my mouth, taking a bite from his cupcake.

"I also want to feed mommy" Xavier said also bringing his half eaten cupcake to my lips, he looked really cute as he pouted which made me giggle as I ruffled his hair taking a little bite from his.

"Thank you," I said, I looked over to Mr. Torricelli, but he wasn't really paying attention to us any longer. He was concentrating on his phone. His jaw ticked as he kept on swiping his phone vigorously. He looked angry or, let me say pissed up.

"Excuse me," he said, then he got up, walking out of the kitchen. I looked at his plate. He did eat part of the cookies, and it remained only one piece on his plate.

"So what do you guys want to do?" I said as I played my attention back to the kids, which were in front of me.

The kids and I spent the entire day together, from playing games to watching TV, we ended up watching FINDING NEMO, since it was Xavier's favourite.

Now we are here back in the kitchen, I was about to go home but the kids begged me to stay and make dinner for them, they said if I made dinner for them they will happily let me go.

We are making spaghetti Bolognese with a nice seasoned and fried chicken.

"Mom, the chicken smells nice," Xavier said, stretching to see how chicken was boiling. We were already done with the spaghetti. It just remained the chicken, and then we were set.

After almost half an hour, the chicken was ready. "Vincent, why don't you go call your dad and tell him dinner is ready.

Ever since he walked out of the kitchen, we haven't seen him, we only knew he was around when Xavier asked Kayla, and she told him that Mr Torricelli was busy.

"Okay," he said and immediately ran for the stairs.

I don't know how the kids are so cute they make me love them the more by every passing minute. I wish to have kids like them, I know they already calm me, mom, but I'm sure that is never happening, I can never marry their father or have anything to do with him.

"Dad, you will love today's dinner," I hear Vincent say. I guess he was able to bring their father down for dinner.

All gracefully, Mr Torricelli walked into the kitchen with Vincent in his arms. Xavier's attention was on my phone he was enjoying the Coco Melon videos I had downloaded just for him.

"Mom made dinner," Vincent said as he got down from his father's hands and immediately took a seat. Xavier looked up to see they were already seated. He got down from the barstool and then walked back to sit on his chair.

"Thanks for the dinner," Mr Torricelli said as he also got seated.

As I helped Vincent serve his food, I heard a thunderstorm, and immediately, rain began to pour heavily.

How am I going to get home.

 Shit, shit, shit.

"I think I need to head home now, before the rain gets more heavy" I said mainly to Mr Torricelli, he looked up from his plate to look at me then he looked outside the window and he shook his head.

Clearing his throat "I don't think it's safe for you to go home right now, even if I let my driver take you home the chances of an accident occurring would be high" he said as a matter of fact .

 "Yes, sir."

"Why don't you stay here, tomorrow you can go home?" he said calmly, staring at me, his grey eyes looking directly into my dull brown eyes.

 Me, stay in this house?.

 No, no, no.

"I wouldn't want to intrude, sir." I find a nice way to reject his offer. I don't want to stay here at all, I just came to see the kids, that's it.

"Mummy, please stay," Xavier said, looking up at me with a puppy face.

"Mom, please don't go," Vincent also said. Right now, both of them were holding each of my hands as I stood between them.

I give up, but just for tonight, never again.

"Okay, I'll stay," I said, which made Xavier squeal in delight, and Vincent smiled happily.

I love the fact that I could make these kids happy by just simple gestures I do.

I looked up to see Mr Torricelli already staring at me, which made me look down back. I don't like it when he looks at me, it give me these weird feelings in the pit of my stomach.

"Mommy, eat," Xavier said as he brought a fork to my mouth. Smiling at him, I took a bite and shuffled his hair.

I sat down beside him as I began eating.

After eating and watching TV for some time, Xavier wanted me to read him a bedtime story, which after tucking Vincent in, I'm in Xavier's room reading Pinocchio.

I take a look at him to see his eyes already drowsy. He was already falling asleep. I kept the book back on the bedside table. "Good night, baby," I whispered.

"Good night, mommy," he said as he fell asleep. I pecked his forehead before adjusting the blankets, then turned to leave the room. As I turned, I saw Mr Torricelli leaning on the door as he watched me.

"He wanted me to tuck him in," I explained, I didn't know why I felt the need to explain myself, but all I got was 'hmm'.

"I will show you your room," he said as he walked out, making me follow him carefully so as not to wake the sleeping boy.

We stopped in front of a door, obviously a door. "This is where you will be spending the night," he said.

 "Thank you very much, sir,"

After he walked away, I walked into the room. The room was quite large. It had a walk-in closet that was as big as my whole kitchen. Opening another door, it was the bathroom. It was as big as the closet.

I wonder why all these rooms are these big, if my mum should see this, she is just going to complain about how he is wasting money.

As I wanted to remove my clothes, something clicked.

I didn't come with extra clothes.

 I have no sleeping wear.

 Ah.

As I was about to enter the bathroom again to you know to do my business I heard a knock, I walked over and opened the door, Mr Torricelli was standing outside my door with a pair of clothes in his hands.

"These are comfortable clothes you can sleep in, we don't have any female wear over here, they are mine. I hope you are okay," he said, handing the clothes to me.

Collecting the clothes from his "Thank you, sir, I really appreciate it," I said, and he walked away.

Our conversations are always short. Either of us only talks when we need to talk, we have never had an easy-going conversation, just some formal greeting and so.

The way he stares me just makes me feel weird things, when my hands touch his as I collect the clothes from him, it felt electrifying but also good. Katie is the only person I can tell, I have to talk to her soon.

I got into the shower and took a very warm bath since it was still cold and raining outside. After bathing, I got dressed into Mr Torricelli's clothes. They smelt like him, and they were comfortable. It was just a pair of shirts and sweatpants, but I only wore the shirt. I got on the large bed, but it was like a queen sized bed. It was so comfortable, and soft snuggling into the sheets, sleep found me almost immediately.

I opened my eyes expecting to be greeted by sunlight but no it was still dark outside as the rain was still pouring, I felt a little thirsty, I checked the bedside table but they was no jug of water.

I have no other option than to get water in the kitchen.

I successfully found my way to the staircase and walked downstairs. The kitchen light was on. Weird. I walked into the kitchen to see Mr Torricelli sitting on one of the barstools as he held a glass of alcohol, I think.

I think he heard my footsteps cause he looked away from the glass to look at me.
