Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Learning the Basics

Jordan silently followed Trevor along the hallway. Not that he willingly stayed quiet; Trevor had shot down any questions he'd brought up, saying that the guy they were going to meet would answer all his questions. Despite how Trevor had phrased it, Jordan felt as if he just didn't want to humour him. Gritting his teeth, he muttered, "You'll pay for this, you bastard."

After a few more minutes of walking, they finally arrived at the closed doors of the principal's office. Reaching his hand up, Trevor knocked on the door twice.

Knock. Knock.

"Come in," a deep voice called out from inside. Trevor promptly opened the door and stepped into the office, with Jordan following closely behind. As he entered the office, Jordan's gaze landed on the two men standing inside. One was their principal, Sebastian Kruger. They'd been told that he had to go overseas for personal reasons—he must've returned just a bit earlier. Beside him was a man he was seeing for the first time. He wore a blue floral shirt and shorts, and his hair—despite being similar in colour to Jordan's—was an utter mess. His tanned skin hinted at the time he'd spent at the beach. Seeing Jordan trying to assess him, he suddenly broke the silence.

"Jordan, I see that Trevor told you what you are," he said, sounding amused.

"Do I know you?" Jordan suddenly became defensive. This guy is creepy—way too creepy, Jordan thought to himself as he unconsciously began to step back. He could feel it. This man was dangerous. As he was now, he'd stand no chance against him. Seeing Jordan's reaction, the man let out a chuckle.

"I'm Marco Morbidelli. Don't worry, Jordan. I don't have any bad intentions. And no, I don't know you personally, but I do know about you quite a bit. I know your parents died, who killed them, and some things even you might not know about yourself."

"My parents were killed?!" Jordan was taken aback. How could they have been killed? Why were they killed, leaving him alone? And how'd this man find out something even the police couldn't figure out? All the emotions he'd thought were gone surged up as Jordan unknowingly let out an aura of bloodlust.

"Jordan, calm down. Now's not the time for that. These things will reveal themselves to you eventually," Marco said as he reached out and grabbed Jordan's shoulder.

"Follow me. There's something I'd like to check."

Marco turned on his heel and led the group to an inconspicuous door hidden in a corner of the office. Had Marco not led them directly to it, Jordan wouldn't have noticed it being there. Jordan silently followed with Trevor beside him, but this time, his silence was due to his emotions running rampant in his mind. Seeing his agitation, Trevor firmly patted his shoulder.

"Relax, Jordan. He probably had a reason for bringing that up. I'm sure we'll find out the truth soon enough. He's a lot smarter than he lets on."

"Yeah... thanks, man. I'll forget about it for now." Jordan decided to look into it later—not knowing he wouldn't have time for that anytime soon.

Marco opened the door and pointed towards the stairs leading underground. Where else could it lead? They were already on the ground floor.

"Jordan, the moment you step inside, you will become one of us. Though we aren't the greatest people, we always look after our own. Are you willing to leave your current life behind, even though there isn't much of a choice now?"

"Yes, I'm willing." Jordan wasn't the type to back down. He'd already made his decision at the rooftop, and he fully intended to stick with it.

Pfft. Haha.

"I'm not asking you to marry me or something—why so stiff, Mr. Jordan? Could it be, you've been charmed by little ol' me?" Marco feigned surprise as he made fun of Jordan. Seeing Marco's antics, Sebastian, who had remained silent throughout the whole conversation, knocked him on the head.

"Be serious, Marco. We don't have much time," Sebastian reprimanded Marco as he rubbed the bump that was forming on his head.

"Alright, alright. Follow along, Jordan."

Jordan was confused. Was this the same man he had a conversation with earlier? 'Shameless. The whole lot of them are shameless,' he thought to himself as he followed.

Finally, after they descended the stairs, Jordan was able to take a look around. They were in a massive training ground, and from the looks of it, it spread under the entirety of the school grounds.

"What were you going to do again?" Jordan turned around and questioned.

"Oh, we're going to test your current limits and get you familiarized with the basics of spike combat."

"How exactly do you plan on doing that?" Jordan asked.

"By beatin' you up, of course!" Marco responded with glee.

A tired sigh escaped Jordan's lips. Today just wasn't his day.
