Magic & Magecraft Glossary

Note: The terms "magecraft" and "magic" are sometimes used interchangeably in this glossary. Unless otherwise specified, they refer to the same practice.

Magic Forms:

Magic (or magecraft) can take on one of two forms:

- Elemental: Mana is transubstantiated into physical elements such as fire, water, earth, wind, lightning, etc.

- Functional: Mana is used to serve a non-elemental purpose, such as hypnosis, enhancing speed, or spatial manipulation.

Magic Categories:

Spells fall under one of the following categories:

- Attack / Defensive: Used in combat to inflict damage, create barriers, or perform tactical maneuvers.

- Healing: Used to restore health, regenerate body parts, or nullify harmful effects.

Magecraft:

Magecraft is the act of transubstantiating mana—converting it into either an elemental force or a functional ability. To perform magecraft, a person must be able to manipulate mana which is required to possess a grimoire, and either speak or mentally recite incantations. Magecraft requires preparation, time, and technique.

Magic:

Magic is a burst-form evolution of magecraft. It bypasses the need for a grimoire and incantations, making it faster to cast. Unlike magecraft, magic is not limited by the user's mana pool, allowing them to perform high-level spells regardless of their base reserves.

One key advantage of magic is that any mana pool can utilize it—so long as you are a god. That's why Johannes, with only 88,750 mana, can still perform S-class magic.

Magecraft/Magic Classification (by Mana Pool):

- S-type: Mana pool above 1,000,000

- A-type: Mana pool above 500,000

- B-type: Mana pool above 100,000

- C-type: Mana pool above 50,000

- D-type: Mana pool above 10,000

- E-type:Usable by anyone, even a commoner
