Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Another Special Customer

[3rd POV]

The next couple of days since the visit from Lucifer had come and gone, and had been thoroughly enjoyable as she continued to greet customers, and simply relax in peace, no longer having to worry about being a hero or anything of the sort, as she had as 616 Wanda or any of the others she had "Been".

She had gotten more and more customers over those couple of days, a lot of them being older individuals coming in for all sorts of cute romance novels that they gushed over, as well as some that were buying them for book clubs. As most of the romance books she sold did not exist in this universe, making them completely new and unique.

She was sure that they would begin to get more and more attention in the coming months once more and more people began to notice their existence, especially the books that involved science. The books that Reed had written were...well beyond this universe's Earth in several areas, with the man being an incredible genius, the smartest in his home universe besides those with powers that actively boosted their intelligence.

She ended up reading through a couple of the books, and found that they were genuinely quite interesting, even to her, someone far more interested in magic and fiction rather than science. She supposed it was the Arion aspect of her that brought about that particular interest.

Besides reading some new books on science, and having a lot of older customers, she had also begun to have an influx of younger customers too, all of them after either the comics or manga, with Invincible blowing up in popularity, seemingly because of Dick, or perhaps because of one of the others that had bought it.

It was only a matter of time before the more...annoying parties found out about her books and comics and would come to investigate, which would become...incredibly annoying, but thankfully that wouldn't be for a while, so she'd have some time to get genuinely enjoyable customers to speak with.

She hadn't had any more customers of note, none of them being special like Dick or Lucifer. Well, at least until now.

Sitting in her chair behind the front desk, Wanda sipped on hot cocoa this time instead of tea, as it was early in the morning and she was craving it. A piping hot bagel sat in front of her as she ate and read her book at the same time, only to hear the door creak open as she looked up, her eyes constricting as she did.

"So you're the one that took the souls from me?" The voice of a woman echoed, as Wanda gazed upon one of the strongest entities in the multiverse, one of the few that could contend against her in power, and one of the ones that was in the same "realm" of power as someone like Lucifer.

The woman was...Death.

"I can see now why you were able to do so. So much power contained within such a thing like you, chaos and magic filling every inch of your form, an existence far beyond any normal beings comprehension. No wonder you were able to remain hidden from the sights of so many others" Death said, as she looked Wanda over, slightly impressed.

"You're not here to try and kill me, are you?" Wanda asked, really hoping she wasn't going to have to battle it out with Death herself.

She was pretty sure she could defeat Death, as she couldn't die, not really, not even by Death herself. But she also knew that like a battle with Lucifer, it wouldn't exactly end well for the greater multiverse, and she'd rather not have to remake literally everything herself.

Hearing the question, Death snorted "Hah! No, no I'm not going to kill you, not that I even can. No, I'm just here to see what had caused such a fuss, and to see whether or not you'll become an issue, and considering the Lightbringer has already visited you, I can only assume you'll be causing all sorts of chaos, but nothing that could bring anything truly terrible to the greater multiverse" Death replied, amused with the question as Wanda just groaned.

"Why do I keep attracting godlike beings that find it amusing to mess with me?" Wanda asked out loud, as Death shrugged.

"That's just luck I suppose. I'd say it's fate, but you aren't even bound by that" Death replied, conjuring a chair as she sat across from Wanda, drawing a look of surprise from the Scarlet Witch.

"So, how'd a little thing like you appear in a place like this? And why choose a bookstore of all things?" Death asked, as Wanda blinked several times at the abrupt question.

"No offense but don't you have like...death duties to handle?" Wanda asked.

"Hmm? Of course, but creating clones and such is easy enough for me. And even entities like me get breaks. So, can you answer the question or are you going to avoid it?"

"No idea about the first one, I simpy...became. As for the bookstore...I like the peace and quiet of the simple life. I may be able to unmake and remake the entire multiverse on a whim, but I've got no interest in such a thing. Instead, I simply wish to read, drink tea, learn magic, and sell books of all types. If those are cosmic entities capable of wiping out all life, or a granny that likes smut, it matters not to me. Hell, I'd even let villains shop here as long as they don't cause problems in my store" Wanda replied with a thoughtful expression, as Death raised an eyebrow.

"So the neutral route huh? Interesting choice for a being so closely connected to chaos and magic, although I can sense the hints of Order within you, it's far outweighed by chaos" Death said with growing intrigue, as she found the mystery of this unknown woman to be...strangely appealing.

"So even if I was to become a customer, you'd serve me?" Death asked, as Wanda nodded.

"As long as you cause no harm to my store, myself, or my other customers, I see no reason as to why I can't. I've already served Lucifer before, you'd be a step up from him to be honest, at least you're cute" Wanda replied without even thinking of what she said, as Death blinked several times in surprise, while Wanda's eyes widened slightly as she realized what she said, glancing to the side awkwardly.

"...You think of me, the very personification of Death...as...cute?" Death asked with an eerie look on her face, intently staring into Wanda's eyes as the woman nodded slowly.

"Certainly. You're easily the most attractive woman I have ever met, but more than that, you're one of the cuter ones. Although that might be my...fondness of emo and goth women" Wanda replied not even sugarcoating it. She always sorta had a thing for emo or goth looking women, and Death ranked VERY high up in the totem poll, with only one other person ranking higher.

'...Huh, I wonder if she exists here? Suppose I'll have to look out for her' Wanda thought, thinking of a pale faced girl that had some...very big daddy issues.

"You are even more interesting than I had thought you would be. In all my years of living, I have never been dubbed as "Cute" by anyone, much less someone like you. Perhaps...perhaps I will become a customer of yours" Death said with interest, as she got to her feet and walked to the comics and not the books, with her interest settling on the comics series "Spawn" as well as "Evil Ernie". The second of which caught Wanda's eye, remembering that a character called "Lady Death" does appear in it, so that would be...an interesting reaction.

She ignored the stray thought hoping that Death would "Try" on "Lady Deaths" appearance, totally not because she was smoking hot or anything...totally.

"Spawn? Sounds...interesting. These comics do not belong here, do they?" Death asked, as Wanda simply gazed at her, which was an answer itself as the personification laughed and nodded in understanding.

"No need to answer, that silence was enough" Death said with a chuckle as she walked forward, money appearing from nowhere as she placed it on the table. Within her hands were the first 10 issues of Spawn, as well as 3 issues of Evil Ernie and 3 of Invincible.

With the comics paid for, Death sighed as she felt her duty calling "Well, duty calls" Death said, as she began to make her way towards the door, but not before turning and smirking at the befuddled woman.

"I'll be back in the future, oh, and keep the change...cutie~" Death said, teasing Wanda as she walked out of the front door, leaving the woman standing there, no emotions on her face, with only one thought on her mind.

'...What just happened?'

That's the end of the chapter!

She's officially met Death of the Endless! She'll likely be one of her two love interests, with the other appearing eventually.

The next chapter will probably be her first proper adventure outside of the bookstore as so far it's just been her meeting entities and reacting, so the next chapter will be different.

Who else should come walking through her doors?

Anyways, have a good day!
