The Angel
"Mate!? There's no way. She couldn't possibly be your mate! She's not one of us!" Susan yelled at him.
"It's true, now leave, you're no longer welcome in the pack house or my party." Kenai said as he moved past her and helped me up onto my feet. "Are you alright?" He asked and I nodded. Still in shock by what I'm hearing, mate, pack house, what are
they? Obviously not human by what they're saying.
"She's but a lowly human being who just stumbled upon our pack, why does she get better treatment than me!?" Susan yells not taking the hint that she was no longer welcome here.
"I already told you, she's my mate, now leave or I'll have my uncles show you the way out by force." Kenai said his voice a deep angry tone that made me feel scared but also
comforted. He held me close again and made sure I wasn't hurt anywhere else which made me embarrassed because there were so many people watching.
"Fine, come one girl's, this party was a dud anyway." Susan said as she stomped off out the pack house with three other girls following her.
"I'm sorry about that, let's take you to the infirmary to make sure you didn't twist anything." Kenai said as he led me out the ballroom and into the hallway that led to the
other parts of the mansion.
"Kenai, what's a mate? What are you?" I asked him once we were in the infirmary and alone.
He looked at me for a second then turned away and sighed taking off his pirate hat and setting it down on the counter next to him.
"A mate is like a soulmate to humans only it's more complicated. It's like a connection that
brings two people together and they have the choice to accept that person that
was chosen for them or reject them. It's rare for the people who are mates to
reject each other and when they do, it's painful for both sides if they decide
to reject their goddess given mate. To answer your second question, I'm, a werewolf, dragon, vampire, and fae hybrid."
I stare at him for what seemed like forever before I shook my head and processed everything he said about what a mate was and what he was. When I looked back at him, he was looking at me like he was begging me not to reject him for what he was.
"Can I see them? Your wolf, dragon, vampire and fae?" I ask him as I roll my bottom lip between my teeth hoping he doesn't hate me for asking such a bold question.
He stares at me for a minute before closing his eyes for a second then he opens them and his eyes have turned from midnight blue to a sun gold. "My name is Aragon; I am his
dragon." He says as he comes near me and places his hand on my cheek and then
he takes it away and closes his eyes again.
When he opens them, his eyes are red like fresh blood, "My name is Vladimir, Vlad for short; I am his vampire sprite." Vlad says before kissing my forehead making me blush.
Vlad closes his eyes and the next time he opens them they are an icy blue and his hair turns white like freshly fallen snow which makes me stare at him in awe.
"My name is Rowan; I am his fae." He says his voice soft like silk on an Autumn breeze and I shivered a bit from the cold air that seemed to spill out from him.
The next one to show himself is his wolf. His hair turned back to black but this time it had dark blue highlights in it and his eyes were the same golden color as Aragon's. "My name is Ares; I am his wolf and I am so happy we finally get to meet you." Ares smiles before letting Kenai take control again.
"You've seen us all, are you scared?" He asked as he looked at me with worry.
"I'm not scared, how could I be when my destined one is so beautiful and that I am his mate? I have to tell you though, I'm not human. I'm actually an angel. I'm just in my human form right now." I tell him as I watch as he looks at me in shock and then total admiration and awe.
"I think I might've won the jackpot in the mate selection. Because I always hoped my mate would be just like me." He said happily like he just got the greatest gift in the world.
"Can I show myself now? All of them got to be seen," Angie pouted in my head.
"Alright, fine, just don't do anything stupid Angie," I tell her before closing my eyes and letting her take control. As she took over my hair turned to a bright sun-bleached blonde
and my eyes turned to a baby blue.
"Hi, my name is Angelica, I'm Ayami's spirit, it's so nice to finally come out!" She says happily stretching our arms and wings out before smiling at a shocked Kenai.
"Wait, so, angles are like us werewolves? You have spirits too?" Kenai asked in a shocked tone and I didn't blame him. Seeing as I was shocked to learn he had more than one spirit
living inside his head.
"We do, well some of us do anyway. The angels that aren't like us are the older kind of angels that were born before the first of the humans arrived on Earth. As Heaven grew, we angels birthed those who had spirits with them, us spirits are usually called
the high Seraphim because we have more power than a regular angel without a
spirit does." Angie tells him as she walks around him checking him out which
makes him nervous and shy. I can tell he's nervous because he's tugging on his
bangs.
I remembered that he did that when we first met and he was blushing. Angelica took that as her chance to kiss his cheek which made me squeal in embarrassment and hide my face in my hands.
"Angie! Why did you do that!?" I yelled at her feeling my face turn into a tomato.
"Hey, he's ours, I can't kiss my destined one?" Angie pouts at me letting me take over to deal with the embarrassment that she created between us.
"I didn't say you couldn't but this isn't exactly the time to do that sort of thing! Besides, we
just met and we're two teenagers alone..." The moment I realize that we're completely alone in the infirmary I cover my face in my hands and wishing I was dead. "We're so gonna die!"
Kenai is just standing there seeming to be in a daze when he shakes his head and looks at me. "Do you, want some water?" He whispers sounding like he was still in shock of
what just happened.
"I, um, yes," I say shyly in a small voice wishing I could crawl into a hole and die there. I sit down on one of the beds and stare down at my feet playing with my hair as I wait for him to give me a glass of water to cool myself down and sooth my racing heart while steading my breathing.
"Here, may I sit next to you?" He hands me the glass as I nod letting him know that he can.
The second he sits next to me silence fills the room and the only thing that can be heard is my frantic heart beating from how close he is to me.
We sat there for what seemed like an hour before he cleared his throat and started to speak. "There's more that I need to tell you about me. Though I know you already know a little bit. When you touched me when we were dancing, you could tell that I am cold, couldn't you?"
I look up at him and nod, "Why is that?" I ask him now curious to know what else he needs to tell me.
"It's because of Vlad and because I am part of a royal family of vampires that can reproduce even though our bodies are cold and our hearts don't beat. We are the only ones that the gods fear because we can't die no matter what and we live far longer than
they do. They call our family the True Immortal Royals because of this and we
only sleep one day a year. For me, that day was yesterday and our hearts only beat before, during and a little after we sleep." He tells me as I take in everything he's saying.
I take a moment to process it all before leaning on him and letting out the breath I didn't realize I was holding. I felt his body stiffen up as I leaned on him.
"I guess that means except for one day of the year you can protect me from those who wish to harm me. Like that girl from earlier, I could tell that she wanted to hurt me for
keeping you to myself." I laugh softly as I set down the glass of water at the foot of the bed before wrapping my arms around his arm.
"Susan is just one of the she-wolves that hoped I would be their mate. I guess she was the one who called dibs on me if I never found my mate and had to choose one that was best suited for the position as crown princess and Luna of the pack and the kingdom.
My mother is the queen of the kingdom that my family rules over. Her father, my
grandfather, stands in for her as the reigning royale while she's here helping my stepfather here." He tells me as I look up at him.
"Stepfather? He isn't your real dad?" I ask confused.
"No, my real father died when I was five years old. He was my mother's first mate and they had me, my two younger brothers, Koda and Zion. Koda was two years old at the time and
Zion was still in my mother's womb the night the pack was attacked by rogue werewolves."
"Every time I go to sleep that's the only thing I can dream of, yesterday. It ended when my mother killed the men who stormed into the
infirmary and right as I turned back to watch her do it. She never got over the fact that I saw her kill them cruelly."
As I listened to him talk about his past my heart hurt for what he had to go through as a child. Watching your mom kill bad men in front of you would traumatize anyone, maybe
even a god. I place a hand on his cheek making him turn to look at me.
"You don't have to suffer alone, you have us. Angelica and I will be here, for all of you.
Forever." I tell him in a hushed tone as I stare into his eyes, watching them swirl with gold, red and icy blue along with his natural midnight blue. That let me know all five of them were looking at me with acceptance and admiration.
"Let's go enjoy the party, it is your birthday after all." I stand up and turn around to look at
him. I must've turned around too fast because I fall right on top of him on the
bed and my lips land right on his. We stay like that for a minute before I quickly get off him and stand with my back to him.
"Wow, you tell me not to kiss him on the cheek yet you kiss him on the lips!" Angie criticizes me as I hide my face in my hands feeling the heat of my embarrassment return.
"It wasn't intentional!" I yell at her wishing I could just die.
I hear movement from behind me and next thing I know I feel arms wrap around my waist pulling my body against his. My heart is beating so fast I think he might feel the vibration of it with how close he is to me.
"Let's go back to the ballroom. I'm sure everyone is wondering where I went. Especially with a beautiful girl following behind me in an angel costume." Kenai whispers into my ear sending shivers down my spine and butterflies swirl in my stomach and a strange noise comes from my lips as I feel his cold breath blow against my ear
making my core become heated like fire.
I cover my mouth and I feel his body freeze up from the sound I just made. I can only repeat the words 'Oh my god!' in my head as I try not to move or make another sound.
"What just happened?" Angie asks seeming to be just as shocked as I am.
"I don't know, all he did was whisper in my ear and all sorts of things started to happen! What do I do!?" I start to panic internally wondering what I should do or say that won't
sound incredibly stupid.
"I don't know! Just try not to move, because our body has decided to become weird just from that!" Angie said as I try my best to stay still while Kenai hasn't moved an inch.
"What was that?" Kenai whispered into my ear again making me have the exact same reaction as before and another strange sound leaves my covered lips.
"I, I don't know..." I whisper to him trying to hide my face from him as best as I can with how red it is now from embarrassment.
"Would you let me hear it again?" This time, it wasn't Kenai talking, it was Ares and Aragon.
Both of them were up front now and holding me tight against their body as I shivered from the sound of the raspy and deep tone of them speaking at the same time.
"I, I don't know."
