Chapter 1 - Prologue

Decrepit hands reach out of the dark. Old leathery fingers dragged their weary owner into the dim blue light. You could see the light, weak as it was, even at the start of the cavern. The place was that dark after all, and no less cold and uninviting

But A bearded face emerged from that darkness, an ancient face, a relentless face. The face of an entity dragged into bottomless depths in his search for a solution. For a weapon that would put his people on an even field with those who sought to destroy them.

And he found it.

The hands reached out, blistered fingers wrapping around the hexagonally patterned cube floating in the air just ahead of him. It was small, so small it fit in the palm of his hand, but the power it radiated was insurmountable.

"What a.. fine.. thing.."

It said, a gravelly voice travelling from it's crooked mouth, as both of its palms wrapped around the object.

"With this… we are saved…"

It said, the dim glow glowing brighter. Blue light shot from the cube in thin lines, causing the thing to drop the cube. Though instead of hitting the floor, it began to float once more. One by one the strands of power escaped the cube, bouncing off the thick rock walls of the cavern and forming a web of blue light.

The thing was lost for words, its mouth trembling in fear and wonder with the thought that this tiny cube was the key to it's species' survival.

Up until this point, the light beams had been carefully avoiding touching the thing, arching around it until all space around him was full of its energy. But before it could react, it shot a ray of blue straight into the creature's chest. As it groaned in agony its wrinkled, beastly, old skin sloughed off its body. Fresh pale skin replaced it, soft sparkling eyes taking the place of its beady white ones as its hunched back and gnarled bones straightened themselves out.

"This… is not right..!!"

The man said, his new pale body letting off hissing steam. He attempted to reach out to grab the cube but it was too late, the energy in the cavern clearing had filled the space and had begun to expand the walls around it.

"No… NO!"

He called, dashing towards it with his fingers just millimetres away from the object… but he was too slow…

Crash!!

The cave opened up at the top, dust and rock flying everywhere, the cube's power spread across the world in millions of beautiful arching beams. A large majority of its beams were focused on travelling west from the island containing the cave, but a few thousand would fly in other directions.

"What… have I done…"

He said, as the falling debris clattered down on the opening above him, sealing off the large space with soot and rubble.
