Chapter 1 - The creature at night

A young couple, JOHN and MARY, stroll hand-in-hand down the dark streets of Detroit. They were laughing and talking, oblivious to the danger that lurks in the shadows. As they turn a corner, a monstrous figure emerged from the darkness. It was tall and black, with huge red eyes and sharp teeth. This massive creature was covered in writhing shadows.

John and Mary gasp in terror. The monster lunged at John, throwing him against the wall with incredible force. John's hit the wall with a sickening thud, and he laid there motionless on the ground. Mary screamed and tries to run, but the monster, being too fast. It grabbed her by the leg and lifted her into the air. Mary screamed again, her voice filled with terror. Then the last thing that went through her mind was its teeth. John, who had been lying there for several minutes, he opened his eyes just in time to see that creature finishing its meal. Now it was coming for him.

He stood up, anger in his eyes. He was suddenly holding a gun in his hand, a gun that was different from the rest, it looked normal, but the bullets. The creature sensed them, they contained magic.

"You killed my girlfriend!" he bellowed. He aimed his gun at the creature's head and fired three shots.

The creature dodged all of them and charged, bearing its fangs at him as it came. John fired five more but missed, cursing under his breath he dodged out of the way, the creature's claws missing him by inches. He rolled to his side and shot the creature in the back. The creature howled in pain and spun around. But the howling was cut short when John finished it with more precise shots. This monster, this pathetic excuse for a living thing lay there, motion less, its body slowly turning into dust that disappeared in to the air. John picked up his girlfriend's handbag. It was small and pink, now covered in her blood.

He regretted not being able to sense the creature while they were on their nice walk, he was too distracted, he was having fun with Mary. He had tears in his eyes.

"I'm sorry," he sobbed.

Then is insides suddenly being alert, he sensed another one. There's more of them. Five of them to be exact. This is not good for John. Due to the creature's surprise attack, his left leg has been injured, and his right shoulder has been dislocated.

He turned around, his gun in his left hand, holding it steady. He knew they were here for him, after all these foul creatures are attracted to those with a certain level of energy coursing through them. Five of them crawled out of the wall from the shadows, John smiled, they might be vicious but they're still stupid, stupid enough that they didn't sense the trap John had set on the floor while he was laying on the ground. The marks glowed bright orange when the first creature stepped on it.

It screamed and howled until it quickly turned into dust, followed by more screams. And there was silence, John frowned. Where did the other one go? He tried sensing it but he couldn't detect it, suddenly fear gripped his heart. He turned around and around. Eyes darting from left to right, then back again. That is when the ground gave away beneath his feet, instead it was replaced by the creature's big mouth. John quickly aimed his gun at the street light and opened fire, instead of a bullet, it shot a wire that attached itself to the head of the street light, he pulled just in time as the monster closed its gaping mouth, saving his entire body, except his right leg.

Pain shot out throughout his body as his leg was ripped off from his joint, he landed on the ground, crying in pain, the creature advanced on him. John couldn't do anything except to yell out curse words and shoot at it with infinite bullets. The monster evaded all of his bullets and grabbed John's wrist, yanking off the gun.

John cursed out loud as the creature lifted him off the ground, and opened its mouth.

"I hate Oscuros," John said as the creature's throat blocked his view.

Then there was a crunch, and he died.
