(Opening Scene: Kurozane, hidden behind the thorny vines, tries to recover from the disorienting experience of the accidental Voidwalk, while the Shadowed Maw continues to search.)
The nausea slowly subsided, leaving Kurozane with a lingering chill that seemed to emanate from the very core of his being. His heart still pounded in his chest, a frantic drumbeat against the unsettling silence of the forest. The Shadowed Maw was still nearby, its snarls and heavy breathing audible through the dense foliage.
He tried to recall the sensation of that sudden shift – the flickering of the world, the feeling of being submerged in a cold void, the disorientation. It had been terrifying and involuntary, a desperate reaction to mortal danger. He had no idea how he had done it, or even what he had done. Had he somehow teleported? Moved through the shadows in an instant?
A wave of fear washed over him again. This power was unpredictable, dangerous, and exhausting. Could he even rely on it again if the Shadowed Maw found him?
Despite his fear, a sliver of desperate curiosity began to stir within him. If he could somehow understand this ability, this Voidwalk, it might be his only way to survive in this hostile forest. He closed his eyes, trying to recreate the feeling of utter terror and the desperate urge to escape. He focused on the image of the Shadowed Maw lunging at him, the glint of its teeth, the burning red of its eyes.
He willed himself to move, to vanish like he had before. But nothing happened. The world remained stubbornly solid around him. He tried again, pushing his fear to the forefront of his mind, focusing all his intent on escaping. Still nothing.
Frustration and despair began to creep in. It seemed the ability was tied to a moment of pure, unadulterated panic, something he couldn't simply summon at will. He was still at the mercy of the Shadowed Maw, his only advantage the brief confusion he had caused.
He cautiously peered through the thorny vines. The Shadowed Maw was still circling, its head low to the ground, its powerful muscles coiled and ready to strike. It was only a matter of time before it picked up his scent again.
Kurozane knew he couldn't stay hidden forever. He needed to move, to find a safer place, or perhaps even a way out of the forest. But the memory of that sudden, disorienting shift offered a faint, almost impossible hope. Maybe, just maybe, if he was desperate enough, it would happen again.
He took a deep breath, trying to steady his trembling limbs. He needed to be ready to run, and if the Shadowed Maw cornered him again, he would have to rely on the unpredictable instinct of shadow to pull him into the veiled paths once more. The lingering chill of the void was a constant reminder of the terrifying power that resided within him, a power that was both his potential savior and a source of profound unease.
