Chapter Six: "The Church Choir Disaster"
Aunt Pauline's passion for her church choir reached a new peak when she convinced Zoe to attend the choir practice.
Zoe was reluctant, but Aunt Pauline insisted. "You'll be a star. You just need to sing one note."
It was like stepping into an alternate universe where bad karaoke was a national sport. Aunt Pauline handed Zoe a microphone, as though she were a Broadway star about to perform for an audience of critics.
The choir's "sound" was a blend of people who seemed to have heard of singing but didn't quite understand it. Pauline was in the center, passionately conducting, and making strange hand gestures that probably meant something profound to her, but to Zoe, it looked like a mix of jazz hands and interpretive dance.
As the choir sang "Amazing Grace," the parrot—yes, the same parrot—decided to join in, squawking loudly, "A-maaaaa-mazing gracieeee!"
Zoe could do nothing but laugh. It was chaos. It was a disaster. And it was definitely going on Instagram.
