Chapter 28 - Chapter 28 Intruders Will Be Shot

After obtaining the gasoline generator, Chen Du naturally took it to the villa's electrical room to connect it to the power supply.

As for this electrical room, it was Chen Du's first time entering since he had initially received the villa as a shelter and only briefly glanced at the electric meter back then.

He never imagined that he would actually need to use it one day—and soon at that.

Chen Du pulled the gasoline generator out of his backpack and began pouring gasoline into it with a steady stream.

A large generator like this would typically last a long time under normal circumstances.

After all, it was a different world now—a post-apocalyptic one where electricity wasn't needed for much.

However, Chen Du had no intention of conserving power.

The gasoline generator ran on fuel, and fuel was the one thing he had in abundance!

After filling the generator, Chen Du started it up and connected it to the villa's main power supply.

Soon, with a soft beep, the entire villa lit up.

Next, Chen Du went to the rooftop and began pouring bottled water into the storage tank.

This would serve as their reserve water for bathing later.

The moment the power was restored, Chen Du received a notification from the system:

[Dear survivor, your villa shelter has activated monitoring and alarm services. You can access the surveillance feed and receive alarm notifications at any time through the information window.]

Chen Du took a quick look at the surveillance feed and noticed that the entire villa was covered by 360-degree, blind-spot-free cameras.

The sensors intelligently detected any strangers attempting to trespass and would immediately send an alert to Chen Du, ensuring he was informed of the situation right away.

Combined with the original security alerts from the Fortress Wall, it was absolutely impossible for anyone to come and go unnoticed.

"Ah, a bath feels amazing!"

After finishing all his tasks, Chen Du naturally decided to indulge in a relaxing soak in the bathtub.

He lay back in the tub, letting the hot water soothe his entire body.

However, before he could fully relax…

[Beep beep beep! Warning, warning! Someone is attempting to climb the wall. Please respond promptly!]

Chen Du yanked the hot towel off his eyes and quickly accessed the surveillance feed through the system.

The monitor clearly showed a few survivors peering around the brightly lit Fortress Wall, even attempting to climb over it.

Chen Du hadn't expected that other survivors would arrive in the villa area so soon.

Through the surveillance system, Chen Du issued a warning: "Stop sneaking around my property. Leave immediately, or don't blame me for getting rough!"

The survivors outside the wall were startled.

They hadn't expected the villa to have surveillance.

They had just been about to climb the wall to investigate when they were caught red-handed—and now they were being chased off by the villa's owner.

The survivors left, but Chen Du continued to watch them through the surveillance feed.

He had reason to suspect that they were up to no good—just like Ethan's team before.

Sure enough, once the survivors were a safe distance away, they began whispering among themselves.

A fat man spoke up, "Damn, someone's got power now? I want to enjoy air conditioning too."

A skinny man beside him replied, "Why don't we make a move tonight?"

The other survivors nodded in agreement.

"It's doable!"

The fat man, however, suddenly remembered the alarm system and grew worried.

"What about the surveillance cameras?"

The others, however, were unfazed.

"Don't worry, even surveillance has blind spots. There are a few big trees at the back of the villa—they probably won't see us. We'll climb in from there, sneak in quietly, and take out whoever's inside. Heh, then the villa will be ours."

These survivors had fled from the north.

They hadn't originally planned to enter the villa area but had been chased there by zombies by sheer coincidence.

Zombies were everywhere, and the villa area was one of the few safe zones—especially since Ethan and his team had cleared out the zombies, making it relatively secure.

Upon entering the villa area, the survivors were immediately drawn to the villa where Chen Du and his group lived.

After all, seeing a brightly lit villa in the midst of the apocalypse was both bizarre and awe-inspiring.

Curious, they approached to investigate.

Though they were quickly driven off by the villa's owner, they couldn't help but develop a plan for the villa.

This group had been a gang of thieves in the real world.

After inexplicably ending up in this post-apocalyptic world, they had stuck together without splitting up.

Unfortunately, their luck had been terrible, and they'd struggled to gather resources.

To this day, the team didn't even have enough weapons for each member.

Seeing such a luxurious villa—one that even had electricity—was simply too tempting for them to resist.

It was almost as if not taking this opportunity would be a disservice to their boss, who was still serving time back in prison.

Steal?

Absolutely.

And they'd go as far as to kill for it!

Later that night, after Chen Du and his group had turned off the lights and gone to rest, the thieves quietly approached the blind spot they had identified earlier.

However, just like Ethan's team, they made a fatal mistake: they underestimated Chen Du's control over the villa.

Chen Du noticed the anomaly immediately.

Seeing the survivors with knives tucked into their belts, he knew they were planning to rob and kill.

Chen Du took out his M9 pistol, calmly loading it bullet by bullet, and said coolly, "Since your intentions are impure, I can act without any guilt."

The survivors had no idea what awaited them.

Chen Du woke up Xie Li, and the two of them sat silently in the living room, watching as the thieves climbed over the Fortress Wall.

The alarm didn't sound—because Chen Du had turned it off in advance.

He wanted to see how the thieves planned to break in.

The villa's door creaked open a minute later.

To their credit, the thieves were skilled—they had easily picked the lock on Chen Du's villa door.

As they stepped inside, Chen Du suddenly turned on the living room lights.

The sudden glare startled the thieves, but they quickly realized there were only two people—Chen Du and Xie Li.

They halted their instinctive urge to flee and instead exchanged glances before walking toward Chen Du and Xie Li.

Confident in their numbers, they felt no fear.

One of the thieves, emboldened by lust, said to his companions, "Let's have some fun with the girl later."

The fat thief, holding a knife, shrugged.

"With your twisted methods, don't end up killing her."

The skinny thief beside the fat one, however, noticed Chen Du's expression growing darker.

Before he could utter a warning, the skinny thief was shot in the head.

The fat thief shuddered, terrified by the M9 pistol in Chen Du's hand.

Moments later, he too was taken down by Chen Du's shot.

After days of practice, Chen Du's marksmanship had improved significantly.

Especially at such close range, he was confident in hitting his targets, even if they were moving.

Soon, only one thief remained—the one who had spoken disrespectfully about Xie Li.
