Chapter 42 - Chapter 42 – When Heroes Turn

The sky above Solistra was no longer calm.

Black clouds circled like wolves. The golden sun was gone. Only a red glow remained—soft, angry, and wrong.

Harvie stood at the edge of the Queen's tower, his hand shaking.

His eyes were still wide from what he saw.

I'm not real… I'm a patch. A fake soul made by the Buried God.

The words echoed again and again.

Edna didn't speak much after seeing the memory. She walked behind him in silence. But the distance between them felt colder than ever before.

"Say something," Harvie whispered, looking at her shadow. "Even if you curse me."

Edna looked up slowly. Her face was tired. Her flame eyes no longer burned bright.

"I don't know what to say," she said, voice small. "I believed you were chosen by fate. But now... it feels like you were made to destroy it."

Harvie smiled weakly. "Maybe both are true."

Then the sound of horns filled the air.

Soldiers shouted. Magic flared.

And in the next second—a sword stabbed the sky.

A massive light shot down from the clouds, cracking the earth outside the kingdom walls.

A man in silver armor walked from the light.

His golden hair swayed in the wind. A red cape flowed behind him.

People screamed.

Edna's face turned pale. "No…"

Harvie narrowed his eyes.

"Lucan," he said.

Lucan had once been a Hero.

A kind boy who saved towns. A warrior who made peace between empires.

But now—he looked like a god.

Lucan raised his hand. Dozens of armored knights appeared behind him. Magic circles glowed on their skin.

"We've found him!" Lucan's voice rang. "The Devourer of Time! The one who broke the Seals!"

More lights rained from the sky. News birds—floating machines from the human world—flew above, recording everything.

Words flashed across the clouds like headlines:

> [BREAKING] Hero Order Declares Harvie a World Threat.

Public Warning: Do Not Aid the Timebreaker.

Reward: 1,000,000 gold and System Points.

Edna stepped closer to Harvie, shielding him.

"This isn't good."

"No," Harvie muttered. "This is war."

Lucan stepped forward alone, voice calm.

"You're not supposed to exist, Harvie. You're a mistake. A danger to everyone."

Harvie didn't flinch. "So was fire… before people learned to use it."

Lucan's eyes turned cold. "You killed time itself. You think you're a hero? No. You're a glitch. You're a curse."

Then Lucan's blade burned with godlight.

Harvie's system buzzed.

> [WARNING] – System Authority Override Detected. You cannot rewind in this zone. All actions are now being observed.

Harvie smiled bitterly. "Figures."

The Hero Order charged.

The Queen's knights rushed to defend the gate.

Magic crashed. Metal clashed.

A giant golem rose from the ground.

Harvie tried to use [Fate Split]—a second him rushed into the battle to stop the golem—but even the clone was hit hard.

It vanished in smoke.

Edna leapt into the fight. Her fire wings spread wide. She screamed, sending a wave of flame at the heroes.

But the Hero Order was stronger now.

They weren't just humans anymore.

They were blessed—each one powered by fragments of a god.

Lucan clashed swords with Edna, shouting, "You defend a monster!"

Edna yelled back, "Then I'll become one too!"

Harvie stood in the center, heart pounding.

He was losing.

The world didn't want him anymore.

The people turned. The system turned. Even the heroes turned.

I'm alone… again.

But deep in his chest—where the broken memory had been—he felt something glow.

A whisper.

Then break what turns against you.
