Alister had played a little bit of videogames at local game shops in the past, thus he was familiar with the meaning and function of several basic components of the system. However, there were a few elements he could not grasp, so he inquired immediately.
[ Legacy Order: A unique grading system among legacies. The first level up in this grading system is obtained at level 50. A special set of rewards comes with Order ]
"Hmm, I wonder what mine might be. What about the one regarding Blessing?"
[ Blessings: Win the grace of a divine being through your actions and receive a blessing, temporary or permanent. These blessings include unique stats, buffs, affinity, skills..ETC ]
"Understood."
Alister concluded, yet he remained troubled by his uneven stats.
"My agility is twenty percent above the average human and my strength and defense are average, but why the fuck is my luck just 3 points?"
Was this the reason why his entire life on earth had been so miserable thus far? Could this be why he always moved from one trouble to another immediately after sorting out the previous one?
"That explains it."
Alister sighed.
"Doesn't matter now. I can level up and improve my stats gradually."
Allowing negativity at this stage of his mission would only hamper his overall planning, so he resolved to think positively about everything.
He lay down on the bed and stared at the ceiling as his mind began to wander through a myriad of thoughts.
Half an hour after he had laid down, two soldiers knocked on his tent and delivered three scrolls containing the written reports he had requested.
Alister took the scrolls inside, placed them on the desk, sat down, and proceeded to study them with serious focus.
The texts on the scrolls were different from any script he had ever set his eyes on, they almost appeared as enigmatic symbols.
Normally, he would have been unable to decipher the meaning of these texts, but thanks to Glossa Arcanum, he found that he could read and understand them with ease and without difficulty.
While studying the first scroll, his eyes widened slightly.
"Grim market day of Muzez Kingdom; the day the evil cults appeared in the most popular market, slaughtered hundreds of people and abducted several dozens. Wow, I never expected the kill count to be this high, those cultists are truly evil."
Alister muttered under his breath as he scanned through the first scroll.
It primarily detailed the cult's activities in Muzez Kingdom and specified that the exact number of abducted people reached two thousand.
From the information on the first scroll, he also learned that Muzez Kingdom was not the only target of the cult, other territories surrounding the kingdom had likewise faced the same grim fate.
The first scroll provided him with all the essential details concerning the kingdom and the abduction.
The second scroll contained all the information that the True Wizard organization had gathered concerning Dark Island and the cult group known as Gravemind Orders.
According to the scroll, the Gravemind Order is an ancient group that existed for centuries, they had operated silently in the past without incurring the wrath or attention of major kingdoms and military forces. However, everything changed two years ago when they made their first move on Muzez Kingdom and several neighbouring kingdoms.
Based on the wizards' gathered intelligence, the cult was working on a dark project that required living sacrifices, the project could make them stronger, which is why they were unafraid of drawing attention to themselves.
The scroll further noted that the cult primarily practiced necromancy, blood magic, demonic magic, and curse magic.
"Well, that is strange," Alister whispered as he continued on to the last scroll, which detailed the journey they had undertaken and the dangers they faced along the way.
"Corrupted humans and beast?" was underlined and rendered in larger text than the rest of the page, instantly capturing Alister's attention.
He wondered what exactly these corrupted humans and beast were.
But fate was about to grant him a more vivid understanding.
He was just about to begin studying the final scroll when loud shouts erupted from outside, a commotion was brewing.
"Alert! Those corrupted bastards are attacking again!"
"Everyone, brace yourselves! You there, you, and you—protect the king tent."
"Someone tell the hero!"
"Hey, they're approaching fast!"
"Fuck!"
The voices rang out loudly.
They carried an unmistakable note of terror and deep worry.
Before Alister could fully comprehend what was unfolding, a holographic window suddenly appeared.
URGENT QUEST
OBJECTIVE: The encampment is under attack, slay the enemies and protect the king.
REWARD: 250 EXP
PENALTY: -60% likability amongst the soldiers.
"An urgent quest?"
He wasn't expecting it.
"Hero, hero! Please come help us!"
One soldier dashed into the tent without knocking.
Alister turned toward the intruder with a calm expression, even though he strongly resented the fact that the soldier had entered without knocking.
Realizing his error, the soldier offered a small bow and apologized before reiterating the information.
"Corrupt humans are attacking the camp, we seek your assistance, please."
"I will be outside in a minute," Alister replied.
The soldier bowed his head before dashing out of the tent.
"Inventory"
Alister opened his inventory and equipped his sword.
[ Basic sword equipped, +2 STRENGTH ]
[ Swordmaster Lv1 activated ]
A peculiar surge of strength enveloped his body the moment he equipped the sword.
"This is my chance to test my strength and prove myself useful."
Alister stepped outside the tent and was immediately met by a heated scene of soldiers brandishing their weapons against what appeared to be other humans. Or rather, creatures bearing a human resemblance.
"What the fuck!"
Alister felt genuine terror as his eyes met the appearance of the enemies.
