Chapter 3 - Chapter 2: System Error

The moment I died wasn't some dramatic climax.

No final boss fight. No grand betrayal. No tears.

It was… quiet.

I was lying in a hospital bed, hooked up to machines that beeped in rhythm with my slowly failing heart.

The room smelled of sterilized regret and forgotten dreams.

I'd been sick for months. One of those diseases with a name too long and a cure too expensive.

Nobody visited me. Not even the people who said they'd always be there.

When I flatlined, I didn't scream. I didn't even feel pain.

Just a final, cold click—like a light switch being turned off.

Then, the darkness spoke.

I woke up gasping.

Concrete. Wind. Skyscrapers. A buzzing city skyline.

And standing in front of me…

was me.

Same face. Same height. Same everything.

But he looked at me like I was the clone.

"What the hell…?" I muttered.

He said the same thing at the same time.

A pause. Then we both sighed.

---

Turns out, I didn't just reincarnate. I got split.

The System had created an avatar, a fragment of myself that was supposed to act independently in another world.

Except instead of sending the avatar, it dumped both of us into this reality.

Two versions of me.

It was like looking in a mirror, except the reflection thought you were the fake.

And it wasn't even the worst part.

Because this world? It was already a mess.

Heroes. Villains. Factions. Agencies. Surveillance tech embedded into the sky.

And people with quirks that could turn cities into ash just to prove a point.

We arrived with nothing—no identity, no history, no backup.

Just confusion, paranoia, and the fear that we didn't belong.

He—my avatar—wanted to blend in.

I wanted to understand why the System chose this world, and more importantly, what the glitch meant.

Because if the System could mess up once…

…it could happen again.

---

We lasted about 20 minutes before drawing attention.

A floating surveillance drone spotted us appearing from thin air.

Seconds later, we were flagged by a facial recognition algorithm we shouldn't even exist in.

Then came the sirens. The first "hero."

He looked more like a SWAT team mascot than an actual savior.

"Both of you! On the ground! Hands visible!"

My avatar whispered, "Do we run?"

I glanced at him.

" you think?"

The world flickered.

The rooftop, the sirens, the gun barrels—they blurred like static.

And then we were gone.

---

I woke up somewhere new again.

Still the same world. Still the same body.

But something was different this time.

The avatar was gone.

Or rather, he was sent elsewhere.

I could still see what he saw. Feel what he felt.

Double vision. Double awareness.

Like watching two streams at once, except one was lagging behind reality.

We were both alive. Both conscious.
