Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: The Inescapable Arrow

"You... dare to toy with me?" Qin Lie's eyes widened. "Don't you understand your own predicament?"

Qin Yang laughed heartily. "What predicament?"

Qin Lie trembled with anger as he pulled out a ceramic bottle. "Fine, fine, fine! You won't cry until you see the coffin! In that case, I'll add some extra seasoning!"

With that, he crushed the bottle in his hand.

A pungent stench immediately permeated the air.

"Hundred Fragrance Lure?" Lou Mengyu's expression changed.

Qin Yang frowned. "This foul-smelling thing actually has 'fragrance' in its name?"

Jin Wanshan explained, "It's repulsive to us, but demonic beasts love it. The Hundred Fragrance Lure is refined from the blood of a hundred different demonic beasts. All such creatures within a hundred li will detect it..."

Qin Yang's face twisted into a peculiar expression.

Qin Lie laughed. "How's that? Scared now? Before long, this place will be swarming with demonic beasts! You'll be torn to pieces!"

Qin Yang scratched his head, glancing at Lou Mengyu and Jin Wanshan. He whispered, "Is this guy out of his mind?"

Lou Mengyu and Jin Wanshan remained unresponsive.

Qin Lie, however, flew into a rage upon hearing this.

Qin Yang continued, "We're surrounded by these steel pillars. This cage is too small for us to escape through. Could there be a monster even smaller than us?"

The moment he spoke, Lou Mengyu and Jin Wanshan froze in shock, and even Qin Lie stood dumbfounded.

The cage restricted the trio's movements, making escape impossible even if they grew wings. Yet paradoxically, it also served as their best protection!

Qin Lie's face alternated between green and purple hues. If he deactivated the mechanism now, Qin Yang and his companions would vanish in an instant.

His supposed trump card—the Hundred Fragrance Lure—had proven utterly useless!

No, it wasn't useless! This damn lure had attracted nothing but threats to himself!

This was the epitome of "lifting a stone to drop on one's own foot"!

ROAR!

A beast's roar already echoed as a monster approached drawn by the lure.

Qin Lie snorted coldly. "I'll only disable the mechanism when the beasts surround us completely. Then you'll be torn to pieces in an instant!"

"Ah..." Qin Yang sighed.

Qin Lie frowned. "What? Have you seen the light?"

Qin Yang shook his head. "I just don't want to waste any more time."

"What do you mean?" Qin Lie asked, perplexed.

Qin Yang produced the Longxiao Bow from his Qiankun Ring and nocked an arrow.

Qin Lie's face paled instantly, his heart skipping a beat. "You... you actually know archery?"

Qin Yang chuckled, "Not just know it—I'm peerless under heaven!"

Jin Wanshan and Lou Mengyu stood speechless to the side... This archery technique had been stolen from Nangong Ling...

"The nearest cover is about ten steps away," Qin Yang said, his lips curling slightly. "Care to guess if I can kill you within that distance?"

Cold sweat beaded on Qin Lie's forehead as he glanced toward the boulder ten steps away. But the moment he saw it, his heart sank—perched atop the stone was a Firehoof Leopard!

This high-level demonic beast, equivalent in strength to a Qi Sea Realm human cultivator, was renowned for its speed. Its velocity surpassed any Qi Sea Realm cultivator!

Once targeted by such a creature, one faced two choices: fight or die. Escape was impossible.

First kill the Firehoof Leopard, then... Qin Lie's thoughts raced, but before he could finish the thought, a thunderous dragon's roar pierced the air.

ROAR! The Firehoof Leopard's body was pierced through, its agonized cry echoing as it collapsed.

A tremendous force hurled the Firehoof Leopard's carcass several zhang away, where it crashed to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.

Watching this scene, Qin Lie's heart had initially been half-frozen. Now, the remaining half turned to ice...

Qin Yang's archery skills are actually this formidable?

"Scared?" Qin Yang demanded loudly.

Qin Lie swallowed hard, his eyes wide with terror. How could he not be scared? The arrow had killed the leopard before he could even process when it had been fired!

"My next arrow will be aimed at your left hand," Qin Yang declared.

Jin Wanshan and Lou Mengyu exchanged puzzled glances, unsure of Qin Yang's purpose.

Qin Yang drew his bow and loosed an arrow that struck Qin Lie's left hand squarely.

The searing pain twisted Qin Lie's face. Gritting his teeth, he glared at Qin Yang and roared, "A man can be killed, but not humiliated! If you've got guts, kill me outright!"

"I mean no humiliation," Qin Yang replied softly. "I'm simply conducting an experiment. Can you truly not evade my arrows?"

"Experiment..." Jin Wanshan muttered, shaking his head in disbelief.

Lou Mengyu stood equally speechless, her face a mask of bewilderment.

Qin Yang continued, "I'll only shoot three arrows, and I'll avoid your vital points. After three arrows, you're free to leave."

He added a warning, "Though I'll avoid your vital points, if you don't dodge, you might receive fatal injuries and not survive to leave."

Qin Lie cursed inwardly with rage. If I could dodge, would I be an idiot not to?

"Prepare yourself! This arrow is aimed at your left leg!" Qin Yang shouted, deliberately slowing his draw to emphasize the threat.

Another dragon's roar echoed through the air. Qin Lie's eyes widened as he tried to track the arrow's trajectory. The arrowhead slowly filled his vision, and he was certain he could evade it. But before he could move, searing pain erupted in his left thigh.

Qin Yang nodded to himself. The Dragon Song Bow was no ordinary mystical-grade treasure. The dragon's roar served as a distraction, affecting only those locked in its sights.

Qin Yang had first noticed this anomaly when he'd one-shot killed a Firehoof Leopard with an arrow.

The leopard had been at a considerable distance, and its speed was legendary. Yet it hadn't reacted at all before being slain.

Qin Yang wasn't so arrogant as to believe he could kill any opponent instantly - that meant there had to be something special about the Dragon Song Bow!

Now, using Qin Lie as a test subject, he'd obtained the answer he sought.

"My arrow will strike your right foot!" Qin Yang declared loudly.

Qin Lie's body glistened with sweat as he glared at Qin Yang, his eyes burning with venom. You'll regret sparing me! he seethed. When I escape this, I'll tear you apart piece by piece!

The Dragon Song's cry echoed again, followed by another agonized roar from Qin Lie.

With three arrows fired, Qin Yang lowered his bow.

Qin Lie tried to flee, only to discover his right foot was frozen to the ground!

"Sorry, I didn't mean to do that," Qin Yang said, his icy eyes betraying his words.

At that moment, the silhouettes of numerous demonic beasts became clearer.

"Ah!"

Qin Lie became an instant feast, torn to shreds by the demonic beasts in moments and devoured to satisfy their hunger.

"What should we do now?" Jin Wanshan gazed at the growing swarm of demonic beasts around them, his heart pounding like a war drum.

The sight of Qin Lie being devoured alive made him imagine his own gruesome fate.

Lou Mengyu's body trembled slightly. Under normal circumstances, encountering so many demonic beasts would mean fleeing for one's life. But now there was no escape. Though they were temporarily safe, the situation remained...

"What else can we do but kill these beasts? Every one of them is points!" Qin Yang declared.

He had been worried about where to find demonic beasts before, but the Hundred Fragrance Lure had presented him with an excellent opportunity.

"Should we hunt the beasts first, then wait for rescue?" Jin Wanshan asked.

"Rescue? Why wait for rescue?" Qin Yang paused, then looked at the surrounding steel pillars. With a chuckle, he waved his hand lightly.

Qin Yang, Jin Wanshan, and Lou Mengyu suddenly vanished from sight.
