"Did you hear...That kid ran out of awakenings..."
"Yeah, it's sad, most people awaken even if the ability is trash...I can't believe he got nothing,"
"Well, that just shows some people really aren't meant to be Gate Divers."
Walking out of the Awakening building, Oliver was filled with complete despair. His last chance to awaken and change his and his family's life was gone.
(Why...Even if it were a bad skill, just awakening would give me enough money to pay off our Valeri's hospital bills...Maybe even help mother relax.) Oliver thought, clenching his fist in anger
Making his way home, Oliver could only start thinking about any other jobs he could work to help his mother and sisters.
As he did, he bumped into a group of Divers that were walking towards the Association building.
"Woah! Watch were you going jackass...Wait...Is that you muffin top...Almost didn't recognize you," a young man with short blonde hair and fiery red eyes said, holding a spear.
"You know what I think, you're right," Added a beautiful girl with short black hair dressed like a nun
"How you been still trying to awaken...I told you you should give up. You would only drag down any teammates you get...Or just become target practice for a goblin," the man said as he towered over Oliver with a grin.
"Alex lets go...The rest of them are waiting. Don't waste any more time," a boy with short white hair and dual blades on his back replied, not even turning around to look at Oliver.
"Yeah, yeah, Damian, I'm coming...Well, see you around, muffin top," Alex replied with a laugh before walking away.
(this is bullshit...Why did people like that have to awaken...why them of all people? Oliver, though holding back his anger
Continuing home, he walked into the small, rundown apartment they had. Going to the living room, he saw his older sister, Valeri, who was a beautiful girl in her twenties with slightly pale skin, shoulder-length black hair, and deep blue eyes that matched his mother's. Helping his younger sister Rina, a fourteen-year-old girl with waist-length black hair and purple eyes that were a mix of their mother's blue eyes and their father's red eyes.
"Big brother olly, you're back!" Rina said, jumping from her chair and giving Oliver a hug
"Oliver, you're back...H-how did the awakening go?" Valeri asked, worried about what he would say
"I wasn't able to awaken, but it's fine. I will find a way to pay your hospital bills. You don't have to worry," Oliver replied with a smile as he hugged Rina back.
"I'm sorry Oliver if...If only I weren't a cripple you and mother wouldn't have to be working so hard," Valeri said clenching the blanket over her legs.
Walking up to her, Oliver kneeled to meet Valeris' eyes and grabbed her hand.
"Val your my sister...No matter what happens I will always do anything to help you okay. So never feel bad,"
"Ha...W-when did my little olly grown up to be such a caring man?" Valeri laughed as she ruffled Oliver's hair.
"By the way, where are Mom and Evangeline?" Oliver asked, standing up
"They went to the store; they should be back soon," Valeri replied
"I see...I'm going to take a small nap before dinner, then," Oliver said, walking over to the bedroom.
Walking inside, he was met by a large bed for his sisters and a small mattress in the corner for him.
(...If only I weren't so useless...They could each have their own rooms)
Lying on his bed, Oliver closed his eyes and allowed himself to escape the reality he despised.
"Well, now, Oliver, you have some terrible luck. It's not the worst I have seen, but it's still bad," a voice spoke out to Oliver, causing his eyes to shoot open.
To his surprise, he saw a never-ending black void instead of his ceiling. Sitting up, he looked around, and his confusion only grew when he saw a handsome man with short white hair and golden eyes dressed in a black and gold suit sitting at a table a few feet from him.
"Hello Oliver...I know you have lots of questions right now. I will be willing to answer all of them, but all I asked is that you listen to the offer I have for you," the man spoke with a calming voice that kept Oliver steady.
"W-who are you?" Oliver asked, looking at the man
"I go by many names among you humans and gods. The devil, the dark prince, the King of hell, Samael. But for the sake of easy conversation, you can call me Lucifer, Lucifer Morningstar," Lucifer replied, taking a sip of whisky.
