Chapter 31 - [31] The Divine Statue

The principal said, "Jujutsu sorcerers must constantly deal with death—not just their own. You'll see people killed by curses, and you'll have to kill curses yourself. It's an unpleasant job.

It takes a certain level of madness and intense resolve. And you think you can do it just because someone told you to? What a joke!"

"You've got to be kidding. I—"

"Then let me ask you this: if you're killed by a curse, are you going to blame your grandfather too?"

Yuji Itadori froze, falling into silence.

"I…"

Suddenly, a fist flew toward him.

"Imagining what it feels like to be on the brink of death isn't easy. But there's one thing I know for sure!"

"If things stay the way they are, when the time comes, all you'll do is curse your grandfather. A jujutsu sorcerer doesn't get to die without regrets. Let me ask you again—why did you come to Jujutsu High?"

Yuji fell into confusion. At this point, he hadn't yet swallowed Sukuna's finger, and no one knew about his unique body that could absorb cursed objects without any side effects.

Right now, he was simply going with the flow.

Simply… following his family's last words. That was all.

Yuji seemed to realize this too, clenching his fists tightly.

At that moment, a golden figure suddenly appeared in his memory. That figure felt so divine, so powerful, so admirable.

"I want to… become someone like Big Sis…"

"That day, when Fushiguro was injured, I did everything I could to fight the curse. But I still couldn't match it—I was beaten all over and nearly died.

If you ask me if I was scared, of course I was. I really almost died. But then… Big Sis suddenly appeared and saved me!

Even though, later on, she gave me even more terrifying memories… I'm still really grateful to her!"

The principal asked, "What exactly are you trying to say?"

"What I'm trying to say is—I want to become someone like her.

Someone who can bring hope to others in their darkest moments!

This has nothing to do with my grandfather's last words.

This is my willI, Yuji Itadori, want to become that kind of person!"

Gojo Satoru looked a little surprised. "Yuji Itadori, you brat… You really caught me off guard…"

Paimon sniffled, "Uuuu, so touching…"

Fushiguro Megumi had a complicated expression. "You bastard…"

Saying something as cheesy as wanting to be a light of hope for others—did you forget that you also saved me like that, back then?

In all my time doing this job, I've never met someone like him before. If the school turned someone like him away, it'd be a huge loss for us."

The principal fell silent. After a long pause, he said, "Yuji Itadori, your answer exceeded my expectations.

Gojo, take him to the dorms, and explain the security measures to him."

"Huh???"

"Congratulations, you've passed. Welcome to Jujutsu High."

"Yes! Big Sis, I made it!"

"Uh…"

Lumine (Zephyr) was at a loss for words.

How was he supposed to explain to this pure-hearted, hot-blooded kid that he only saved him that day because he was being overly cautious?

"Alright, this is your dorm room."

"Wahoo! So spacious!"

Gojo Satoru said, "The second- and third-years are all out right now, but you'll probably meet them soon—there aren't that many of them anyway."

"But hey, you don't have to fight. You could always ask your Big Sis to spend a few tens of millions to get you in through the backdoor~"

Yuji Itadori said in a shocked tone, "How could I let Big Sis spend that much money on me?! Besides, does she even have that kind of money?"

"She definitely does. She's a filthy rich tycoon who pulled out 1,000 gold coins without even flinching~ Pulling out another 1,000 would be a walk in the park~"

"Really?"

Yuji coughed awkwardly, then said, "Ahem, uh, Big Sis, I wanted to ask you something. My grandpa… he was pretty poor when he was alive.

Now that he's passed away, I just want him to live it up a little in the afterlife.

So, um… could you maybe lend me ten million? I want to burn a villa for him."

Paimon's eyelid twitched like crazy. "Uh, well, the thought is nice and all… but what kind of villa costs ten million!? Are you trying to scam her?!"

"Ahem, well, since I'm burning stuff anyway, I don't think just one villa is enough. I should probably burn a few dozen more.

Also, you know, if he's got the house, someone's gotta maintain it, right? So I was thinking I'd burn, like, a hundred servants too. And also…"

"You're dreaming! Most living people don't get to enjoy that kind of luxury, and your dead grandpa wants that kind of comfort? Keep dreaming!"

"Uuuu…"

Yuji squatted down and started drawing circles on the ground. I just wanted Grandpa to experience what it's like to be surrounded by beautiful women… is that really so wrong…?

Fushiguro Megumi sighed and muttered, "You really are a devoted grandson, huh."

Gojo Satoru laughed, "Mhm, Yuji's such a filial kid. And great news—you two are neighbors!"

"Huh??"

And with that, Gojo grabbed Zephyr and Paimon and slipped away, leaving Yuji and Fushiguro to bicker behind.

Paimon said helplessly, "You really are something…"

"Haha, but don't you think it's fun this way? Anyway, here's your room." [Pushes open the door.]

Lumine's eyes lit up. "Mm, it looks pretty nice. Hey, isn't this room bigger than Yuji's room?"

"Well, of course! You're Big Sis, after all."

Lumine put her hands on her hips proudly.

Paimon said smugly, "Hmph, at least you know your place."

Fushiguro Megumi and Yuji Itadori walked up while still squabbling. "Sensei, wait a second—weren't we supposed to go pick up the fourth member today?"

Gojo replied, "Ah, right. But it's already too late today, so that's been pushed to tomorrow.

And no, it's definitely not because of someone causing delays, okay~"

Looking over at Lumine, Zephyr suddenly took off running.

Lumine: "..."

Paimon: "..."

Fushiguro Megumi: "..."

Yuji Itadori: "..."

Zephyr turned back and snapped, "What are you all staring at? Never seen a handsome guy before?"

"…Um, aren't you technically a girl?"

"I can be a girl, or a guy—don't you get it!?"

"..."

Ignoring them completely, Zephyr headed straight for the training field.

To be honest, this school was pretty spacious—and more importantly, there weren't many people around.

"Hmm, this spot'll do. I'll place the statue right here."

Glancing left and right to make sure no one was around, Zephyr opened the inventory and selected "Place."

And just like that, a towering divine statue appeared out of thin air in the middle of the field.

This world's divine statues had undergone a huge change—in appearance, it now looked like a figure with blurred features.

You couldn't tell if it was male or female, nor make out any distinct details.

What's more, the statue now had an additional effect: a 10-by-10-meter zone around it generated a protective field that prevented any external harm from reaching those inside.

It even had durability stats, making it incredibly powerful.

Players could also freely choose who to protect or attack within that field, eliminating the problem of enemies camping the "respawn point."

Then, Zephyr offered the jujutsu-themed Oculus he had collected earlier.

The statue leveled up to Level 1, its HP increased significantly, and the task was marked complete—rewarding him with 1 Brilliant Diamond and over a dozen experience books.

By now, it was already 5 PM.

"Crap, I need to finish the daily quests quick."

At night, curse spirits might double in strength, and they wouldn't be so easy to handle anymore.
