Lu Mingjun followed Jiang Xinxin into her office.
The moment she stepped inside, she was stunned by the scene before her.
The visible area of the office was at least 80 square meters.
Jiang Xinxin's desk was positioned right in the center of the room.
Behind it stood a mahogany screen. If Lu Mingjun wasn't mistaken, it looked like a full set of small-leaf red sandalwood panels.
There was a wall behind the screen, but with about a meter of space on either side, one could walk around to the back. Lu Mingjun couldn't see what lay beyond.
To the left of the desk was a floor-to-ceiling window, and in front of it sat a modern-looking set of sofas and a coffee table.
The right wall featured a large open bookshelf, and in front of it was a long table, approximately four meters by two meters. A water bar was built into one corner of the table.
Jiang Xinxin gestured for Lu Mingjun to sit on the sofa. Wang Lulu entered, placed a cup of tea on Director Jiang's desk, handed a matching cup to Lu Mingjun, and then quietly left the room.
"Mingjun, welcome to Xinxing Law Firm," Director Jiang said with a smile. "You come recommended by Professor Jiang. We trust in your professional ability and know you won't disappoint us."
Lu Mingjun replied modestly, "Thank you, Director Jiang, for your confidence. I will work hard."
Director Jiang nodded and continued, "Later, give your personal documents to Xiaolu. She'll help you complete the onboarding process and obtain your trainee lawyer certificate."
Lu Mingjun nodded. She had brought everything with her and could hand them over right away.
Noticing how calm and composed Lu Mingjun was—nothing like a freshly graduated student—Jiang Xinxin secretly nodded in approval.
"You're a graduate student in finance and tax law, and you have Professor Jiang's endorsement. We have high expectations for you."
Her tone then grew serious.
"I won't give you an adjustment period. I hope you can quickly adapt to our pace and participate in actual casework."
"Each of our lawyers has their own strengths. You're a finance and tax major, and in the coming years, tax law will be in high demand. I hope you'll commit to this path."
"As for your salary, we only touched on it briefly during our call. Let me explain in more detail."
She paused, then added, "Your case is a bit special. During your internship, based on your contribution, I'll grant you a commission between 3% and 10% of the total case fee."
"Once you officially start practicing law, we'll discuss your next contract phase."
Lu Mingjun felt a surge of emotion. That was already a generous offer for a trainee lawyer.
"I'll prove with my actions that you made the right decision," she said sincerely.
Jiang Xinxin nodded with satisfaction and added, "I'll ask Xiaolu to arrange a workstation for you. The corresponding attorney will pass along your case information. Please be sure to keep it confidential."
Lu Mingjun was listening attentively when Jiang Xinxin suddenly shifted topics.
"There's one more thing. What I'm about to say may come across as blunt—I hope you won't mind."
Lu Mingjun, slightly puzzled, nodded and replied, "Please go ahead."
Jiang Xinxin pointed to the canvas bag Lu Mingjun was carrying. "A client's trust in you starts with your appearance."
She said seriously, "A lawyer who can't present herself well will never become a great lawyer."
With that, Jiang Xinxin stood up and extended her right hand. "Alright. Welcome to the team."
Lu Mingjun immediately stood and shook her hand. "Thank you!"
Director Jiang smiled and nodded. "Very good. Now, go get familiar with the office. If you have any questions, feel free to come to me or Xiaolu."
Lu Mingjun thanked her again and left the room.
Wang Lulu was already waiting outside. Seeing Lu Mingjun exit, she greeted her with a smile.
"Lawyer Lu, please give me your documents so I can apply for your trainee certificate and help you start your practice sooner."
Lu Mingjun nodded and took out her materials from her bag.
Noticing the bag, Wang Lulu retrieved a commuter bag from a niche brand from the cabinet behind her desk.
"Lawyer Lu, you just graduated and might not fully understand how society works. People judge by appearances first."
"This bag was purchased by the firm and has never been used. I'll lend it to you for two months. I'm sure by then, you'll have transformed."
Lu Mingjun took the new bag and quickly stuffed her canvas bag inside it.
Two months? No, one month will be enough.
Seeing this, Wang Lulu smiled and said, "Alright, I'll take you to your workstation."
Lu Mingjun nodded and followed her into the main office area.
The workspace was bright and spacious, with everyone having their own desk.
Wang Lulu led her to a window seat with ample sunlight and a wide view.
"This is your desk. You'll need to bring your own computer. If you need to buy one, submit the invoice—the firm offers a subsidy. As for other office supplies, Xiao Cheng has already prepared them and will bring them over soon."
She handed a document to Lu Mingjun. "This is your onboarding form. Please fill it out."
Lu Mingjun took the document and began filling it out carefully.
Wang Lulu observed her quietly, secretly admiring her poise and serious attitude.
Though young, she carried herself well and showed real potential.
Director Jiang's judgment is as sharp as ever.
"Lawyer Lu, your schedule will be packed. I hope you can adjust quickly," Wang Lulu said. "If you have any questions, don't hesitate to come to me or ask anyone else."
Lu Mingjun nodded gratefully. "Thank you, Assistant Wang."
Wang Lulu smiled gently and walked away.
Left alone, Lu Mingjun looked at her desk and fell into deep thought.
She had been thinking about her legal specialization ever since deciding to join the firm.
With that, she turned on her computer and began familiarizing herself with the firm's workflow.
She had just entered the industry—there was no need to rush.
