Chapter 10 - Straight knife under the moon

The sharp broken rod pierced through the monster's brain, extinguishing all its signs of life. However, even so, the inertia of its leap still remained.

Its huge body fell like a cannonball, violently knocking down Lin Qiye, who was holding the broken rod in front, to the ground.

After all, Lin Qiye was able to kill this monster purely relying on his abnormal dynamic vision and the divine might of the Seraphim. His own physical strength hadn't increased. This monster weighed at least two hundred kilograms, and with his strength, he simply couldn't break free from it in a short period of time.

What's more, after Lin Qiye had just used the divine might of the Seraphim, he felt as if he had been drained of all his energy. He didn't have the slightest bit of strength left in his body and even felt a bit dizzy.

But just then, the second monster that had been hiding on the other side moved.

This hunter that had been secretly lurking in the distance finally revealed its ferocious fangs!

Its four limbs ran rapidly, shuttling under the flickering dim streetlights. The shadow it cast was as enchanting as a swaying ghost, and a long scarlet tongue wriggled eerily.

Lin Qiye could clearly see its movements, but at this moment, he simply couldn't dodge. He could only watch helplessly as the dense fangs rapidly grew larger in front of his eyes!

The moment the monster was only two meters away from Lin Qiye, Lin Qiye's pupils suddenly contracted!

Within his range of perception, an object faster than the monster was rapidly approaching!

It seemed... to be a person?

A real person.

Shua——!

Lin Qiye only felt a blur in front of his eyes, and a figure fell from the night sky. Its feet landed firmly on the ground, and the gust of wind generated by the body blew up the dark red cloak, revealing the side profile of a middle-aged man.

He wasn't handsome, nor was he ugly. He was just like an ordinary uncle that could be seen anywhere on the street, and people would subconsciously ignore his presence.

However, the killing intent shining in his eyes was as dazzling as a bright sword!

He crouched halfway down, his eyes fixed on the monster less than a meter away from him, and his right hand firmly grasped the handle of the knife behind his back.

"Ceng——!"

A crisp sound rang out from the scabbard. The light blue blade reflected the dim moonlight, sliced through the stuffy air, and silently slashed forward!

It was a simple straight sword without any fancy tricks!

The blade of the straight sword traced a crescent shape and collided with the monster's sharp claws, sparking a series of sparks.

Zhao Kongcheng let out a low growl, his muscles tensed up all over his body, and he took half a step forward with a sudden movement!

The monster, whose size was no less than that of a brown bear, was actually forced back several steps by him!

Lin Qiye's eyes were filled with disbelief. He had fought with this monster and knew best how terrifying its strength was. And this man in front of him could actually force it back?

Who on earth was he?

After forcing the monster back several steps, Zhao Kongcheng's footsteps moved in a unique way, sticking to the front of the monster like a lingering shadow. The straight sword in his hand slashed continuously, leaving a series of ferocious knife marks on the monster's body!

The monster let out a惨叫 and glared at Zhao Kongcheng with venomous eyes. Its long, spear-like front limbs raised, trying to kill this hateful human in front of it.

However, two flashes of knife light flickered, and its front limbs were directly chopped off!

Before the monster could let out a scream, a cold glint burst out in Zhao Kongcheng's eyes, and the straight sword in his hand slashed towards the monster's neck like lightning!

The light blue blade easily sliced through the monster's flesh and blood. The next moment, the monster's head was sent flying high...

It rolled on the ground with a rumbling sound.

"Ka——!"

The straight sword returned to its scabbard. The dark red cloak was stained with the monster's blood, but because the color was too similar to that of the cloak, it couldn't be seen clearly without a careful look.

Zhao Kongcheng didn't even glance at the monster's corpse on the ground. He unhurriedly took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, took a deep drag, and then took out a walkie-talkie.

"The two escaped Masked Men have been eliminated. Ask the logistics team to come and clean up the battlefield,"

After saying that, he put away the walkie-talkie and walked directly in front of Lin Qiye, who had just managed to break free.

Lin Qiye just stared at him quietly, and he also stared at Lin Qiye quietly.

Under the night, beside the pool of blood, the two men just silently looked at each other...

After a long time, Zhao Kongcheng finally couldn't hold back and spoke first:

"Was I cool just now?"

Lin Qiye: ...

Lin Qiye stared into his eyes for a moment and found that he was actually serious. He could only say softly, "Cool."

"Right, I was cool." Zhao Kongcheng grinned. "Do you want to be as cool as me?"

"No."

"…" The corner of Zhao Kongcheng's mouth twitched slightly. "Why?"

"It's easy to die."

Lin Qiye's expression was very serious.

Zhao Kongcheng was momentarily at a loss for words. "But you just saw it. You possess the supernatural power that ordinary people dream of having. Don't you want to be a superhero like in the movies?"

"No?"

"…Because it's easy to die?"

"Yeah."

Zhao Kongcheng rubbed the corner of his eye. The young man in front of him seemed to be quite difficult to deal with. Yet, he had been dragged into this mess, and he had such powerful strength...

"Okay then. This isn't the place to talk. Let's change to another place and have a good chat," Zhao Kongcheng thought for a while and said. "Oh, by the way, my name is Zhao Kongcheng. I'm not a bad person."

"Lin Qiye." Lin Qiye blinked and nodded obediently. "I believe you. Wait for me here. I'm going to get my schoolbag. My study materials are still in it."

"…Go ahead then." Zhao Kongcheng waved his hand helplessly, walked to the curb beside him, and sat down, feeling a bit depressed in his heart.

If an ordinary person had gone through all this, they would have been scared out of their wits already. This kid actually still wanted to go and get his study materials...

The most crucial thing was... he actually rejected himself directly?

Damn it, I used all my skills! Those slashes just now were so cool! I didn't even try this hard when I was sparring with the captain!

Come to think of it, I still don't know how the captain is doing. The Masked King is not easy to deal with...

Zhao Kongcheng sat on the side of the road without much grace, holding a cigarette and staring blankly into space.

Staring blankly...

Hmm?

Something seemed off?

Zhao Kongcheng suddenly came to his senses, reacted for half a second, and then stood up with a whoosh. He quickly looked around...

Where was that kid's figure?!

Zhao Kongcheng stood there in a daze for more than ten seconds, his mouth wide open, unable to believe what had just happened.

"Damn it, this kid actually ran away?!"

...

"Brother, why did you come back so late today?"

Yang Jin looked at Lin Qiye, who looked exhausted, and asked in confusion, "Where's your white cane?"

Lin Qiye changed into his slippers and forced a smile. "I encountered something on the way and accidentally lost it."

In order to prevent Yang Jin from seeing the scar beside his temple, Lin Qiye wrapped half of the black ribbon around his eyes again. However, the white cane was indeed broken. Instead of bringing it back and making his family worry, he chose to throw it away directly.

"It's okay. Just get a new one if it's lost... Was the matter resolved?"

"Yeah, it was resolved."

The little scamp came running over from the balcony with a thumping sound, rubbed its head against Lin Qiye's calf, and then lay down on the ground, exposing its belly.

Lin Qiye squatted down helplessly, rubbing its belly with his hand while asking, "Has Aunt not come back yet?"

"Mom is working the night shift tonight and won't be back until tomorrow morning."

"All right. Have you finished your homework?"

"Just a little bit left."

"They assign so much homework in junior high school... It's really crazy." Lin Qiye stood up, complained and said to Yang Jin, "It's okay. If you're tired, don't do it. If the teacher scolds you, just tell me, and I'll go and reason with him."

The corner of Yang Jin's mouth curled up, and he hummed in agreement. "I'll finish it soon."

Lin Qiye nodded. "I'm a bit tired. I'm going to bed first. Go to bed early after you finish your homework too."

"Okay."

Lin Qiye dragged his tired body into his room. Just as he was about to close the door, Yang Jin's voice came again.

"Brother... Is there really nothing wrong?"

"Nothing. Go to bed early... Oh, by the way, the milk is in the refrigerator. Heat it up yourself if you wake up early tomorrow."

"Got it, brother."

"Good night."

"Good night."

The door closed gently. Yang Jin stood outside the room, holding the little scamp in his arms, and silently stared at Lin Qiye's room.

Yang Jin gently rubbed the little scamp's head. "You felt it too, right?"

"Woof!"

He looked up at the dim moonlight outside the window and murmured to himself:

"There's the smell of blood on him."
