Chapter 8 - Ch8: No More Children

After a few more rounds of words being exchanged, the Qin couple could only reluctantly let Qin Hanliu return to the Qi Family.

Their only relief being Qi Shou coming in person and promising before them to care for her and also their granddaughter.

"Let's go?" He motioned to Qin Hanliu as he stood next to her, ready to support her if she felt tired walking.

Although he wanted to rent a carriage for her comfort and safety due to ther condition, she resolutely refused, leaving him this as the only way.

As he held her arm to help her walk through the streets, curious onlookers shot glances at them.

Some mocking, some inquisitive, some longing, some envious, some disdainful.

Yet it did nothing to the young couple as they stopped at various places to rest after every short walk.

'Don't worry, I will make you live peacefully and happily to the point every women in this world longs for it!'

Qi Shou vowed solemnly.

He didn't dare say it out loud as it wasn't his personality.

He was a man of action not words.

That was also his belief.

So, he got his thoughts moving.

'My past life allows me countless money-earning opportunities, but it's unsafe...'

After all, if this world had cultivators, earning too much would gain their envy, and might even endanger his entire family.

Even without them, it was only relatively safer as bandits were pretty common in these times.

Plus, illnesses were often incurable with lower lifespans due to lack of medical care.

'But if this world is teeming with cultivators, then... everything will be fine.'

In his eyes, he, as a reincarnated soul with a golden finger was destined to rule above all.

It mattered not if cultivation existed or not.

His thoughts didn't stop changing and circling back until he reached his home with his wife.

She paused abruptly outside the door, hesitation and longing evident in her eyes.

Qi Shou was only stunned because of his continuous string of thoughts.

He understood her concern very well.

No matter how good his parents were, they were still ancients.

They obviously preferred sons over daughters.

Even he thought so, let alone his wife who didn't interact with them as much as him.

However, it didn't stop him from consoling her.

"Wife, there's nothing to fear. At most we'll not have a home anymore," Qi Shou said, assuredly patting her arm.

"Husband..."

Her voice was soft, on the verge of choking.

This was the first time she had felt his feelings for her so clearly.

Who dared to leave their parents for their wife in this era?

Anyone who did would be branded unfilial and lustful.

Yet her husband didn't fear anything, solely having her in his eyes.

Well, it was always about perspectives.

Similarly, the old Qi couple were unaware they were being so casually abandoned by their son.

If they knew, they wouldn't stop at beating him till his hands bled.

Who spread nonsense that they wanted a grandson?

A granddaughter was fine too!

Rather, she was so cute and loveable, destined to become a great beauty.

Could a grandson ever hope to compare?

"Old Qi, what do you think? Will Xiao Qi succeed?" Mother Qi asked worriedly, wanting to bring her daughter-in-law back if not for propriety holding her back.

"I think he will," Father Qi answered after a contemplative moment as his eyes darted to the closed door.

"He's here," Father Qi mentioned in a low tone, gesturing for his wife to go open the door.

She shot him a resentful look before getting up.

"For the sake of Mingzhu and my daughter-in-law, I won't pursue this matter. Hmph!" She snorted.

The couple was married for decades, even longer if one counted their actual age.

They understood each other with a casual glance and words were just merely unnecessary many times.

So Father Qi knew his wife was just worrying, not asking for him to check on their son or anything else.

Yet he had done exactly so.

He could only coddle Mingzhu while smiling helplessly.

"Looks like you saved your grandpa from getting your grandma's ire."

Unlike their fight over who would hold her earlier in front of Qi Shou.

The two had long formed a tacit understanding for him to hold her as he had to go out to work and earn enough to run the family.

His wife usually stayed at home, taking care of Mingzhu so it made sense to them.

Yet they pretended to fight over it in front of Qi Shou.

Putting on a show simply to check if his sealed memories awakened or not.

After all, the three children in the Qin and Qi families had their memories sealed at the same time, around a decade back.

So the two set of parents had to ensure nothing happened.

Thankfully, everything was fine.

The three didn't remember their cultivation heritage or their lives before this humble residences.

Even Qi Shou with his past life memories remained the same.

The seal was truly formidable.

It was a wonder how Qin Jiyue's sealed memories reappeared.

But then again, he was older than Qi Shou and Qin Hanliu, so the seal might not have been completed.

Or it could be because he was already a cultivator unlike them.

Anyways, the old Qin and old Qi couples remained unaware of this matter.

Else, they would've definitely talked to Qin Jiyue about his forgotten past.

But could one's traits, talents, genetics, personality be suppressed?

It would surely surface one day with great ambitions after being pressed down for who knows how long.

Unaware of the undercurrents swirling around, Father Qi sat quietly as he heard the hushed conversation and crying from the front yard.

He closed his eyes and sighed, "What was supposed to come has come."

Only the timeline had changed, but the future predicted by the seer was still correct.

Only one daughter across the next generation.

No more children would be born across the Qi or Qin Family.
