Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: King of Heroes

Tokiomi Tohsaka 's Residence

"Interesting… The Holy Grail War?"

A man clad in golden armor stepped forward, his crimson eyes gleaming with arrogance. His face was undeniably handsome, but the overwhelming sense of superiority only added to his presence rather than detracting from it. He stood as if the world itself was beneath him.

Tokiomi Tohsaka immediately bowed in reverence, while Kirei Kotomine and his father, Risei Kotomine, inclined their heads slightly in respect.

Yet, the golden figure paid them no mind. Instead, he gazed upon the world around him, as if appraising a mere collection of trinkets.

"Hmph… Though this land is small and insignificant, its cries were enough to rouse me from my slumber. You should consider yourselves fortunate, mortals. The weight of your sins is great indeed."

The voice that echoed in the room was unlike any ordinary sound.

It was regal.

It was commanding.

It was the voice of an absolute being, one that demanded worship by its very existence.

Tokiomi Tohsaka lifted his head and spoke with the utmost deference.

"Your Majesty, I am honored beyond words to witness your radiance."

Gilgamesh turned his gaze toward the magus, his expression unreadable. Then, with a flick of his wrist, he scoffed.

"Disrespectful worm. As a mere mortal, you dare to look upon me without my permission? Your kind exists only to grovel, to worship, and to serve."

He stepped forward, his presence alone exuding an unbearable pressure.

"Your very existence offends me. Were it not for the pathetic display of reverence you've shown, I would have had you crucified for such insolence. But… I am feeling merciful."

Tokiomi Tohsaka swallowed hard but maintained his composure. "Your wisdom and generosity are boundless, King of Heroes. I am Tokiomi Tohsaka, your loyal subject."

Gilgamesh smirked, his arrogance in full display. "Hmph. Know this well—I am the King of Kings, Gilgamesh, the one and only. You shall address me accordingly."

Tokiomi nodded quickly. "Yes, my great King of Heroes."

Gilgamesh's gaze swept across the room until it landed on Kotomine Kirei and his father. His eyes narrowed slightly.

"And who are these lowly creatures?"

Kirei, unfazed, simply replied, "We are allies in this war."

Gilgamesh raised an eyebrow but said nothing. However, just as he was about to dismiss them entirely, his gaze fell upon another figure—one who, unlike the others, stood tall without a hint of reverence.

Arthur.

The golden king's eyes immediately sharpened.

"You. Ant. You dare stand before me without bowing?"

Arthur crossed his arms and smirked. "My name is Arthur Pendragon, King of Britain."

A heavy silence filled the room.

For a moment, an invisible clash of wills rippled through the air, the sheer pressure enough to make Tokiomi Tohsaka break into a cold sweat.

The aura of two kings—both absolute in their own right—collided.

Then, Gilgamesh's lips curled into an amused yet dangerous grin.

"How amusing. But…"

The space behind him shimmered, and golden portals began to form, revealing an array of legendary weapons within them.

"Who allowed you to call yourself a king?"

Without hesitation, a barrage of Noble Phantasms shot forth, each one capable of reducing a lesser warrior to dust.

Arthur, however, remained unfazed. With a single motion, a surge of wind erupted around him. The invisible barrier spun rapidly, sending several of the flying weapons veering off course.

Tokiomi Tohsaka could only watch in stunned silence. "Those… Those are all Noble Phantasms…?"

Gilgamesh's expression darkened.

"Impudent fool!"

More weapons materialized in the portals, their blades gleaming with an ominous light.

Arthur, seeing the incoming storm of treasures, narrowed his eyes. This was getting annoying.

A faint golden glow emanated from his chest.

Then—snap!

A brilliant golden light burst forth as an ethereal scabbard materialized in front of him. Avalon—the Ever-Distant Utopia—shimmered like a divine shield, deflecting every single weapon with ease.

The barrage continued relentlessly, but Avalon held firm. The deflected weapons crashed into the basement walls, sending debris flying.

At this rate, the entire room would be reduced to rubble.

"Enough! Both of you, stop!" Tokiomi Tohsaka finally shouted, stepping between them.

Arthur and Gilgamesh both halted, though not out of obedience. Rather, they had the same thought—if this fight continued, the entire mansion might collapse.

Gilgamesh clicked his tongue in irritation. "Hmph. Not bad. That treasure… it is of EX-rank, is it not?"

Arthur nodded. "Correct."

Gilgamesh chuckled darkly. "Interesting. I will kill you when the time comes."

Arthur smirked. "Let's see if you can."

Gilgamesh turned, his golden armor gleaming under the dim light. "Tokiomi. Where is my palace?"

"Right this way, my King of Heroes." Tokiomi bowed and led him away. Before leaving, he exchanged a glance with Kirei.

Once they were gone, Kirei approached Arthur. "King—"

Arthur waved a hand dismissively. "Not now. I'm going to rest."

As he walked away, he reflected on the brief clash.

He had held back. So had Gilgamesh.

Neither of them had unleashed their full power.

Avalon had remained mostly inactive, and Gilgamesh had not brought out his strongest treasure.

But one thing was certain.

"That guy's going to be a pain in the ass…"

The King of Heroes had arrived. And things were about to get interesting.
