"There's no mistake, that's the aura of Water Breathing! Who taught this guy to breathe?" Sakonji Urokodaki muttered to himself, startled.
Every demon hunter has their own breathing style. Breathing styles all originate from the original Sun Breathing. Sun Breathing is the origin of all breathing styles.
Because Sun Breathing is incredibly powerful and domineering, not everyone is suitable to learn it. So, over time, five breathing styles have been derived from Sun Breathing.
—Water Breathing
—Flame Breathing
—Stone Breathing
—Wind Breathing
—Thunder Breathing
Throughout history, people have also derived new breathing styles based on these five breathing styles. Among the Nine Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, some Hashira use breathing styles derived from the five main styles.
Because of the Hashira's special nature, there are no Hashira with the same breathing style. Each breathing style corresponds to only one Hashira. Only when the current Hashira steps down due to unavoidable circumstances, or dies in battle, can the position be inherited by the next qualified successor.
The Hashira is just a title in the Demon Slayer Corps, and it's not particularly noble, nor is it a symbol of power. As a Hashira, they bear the mission of completely eradicating demons from the world.
As time passed, it quickly became the afternoon of the twilight. Sakonji Urokodaki stopped in front of a small wooden house. Ryuji and Tanjiro, who arrived shortly after, also stopped. Tanjiro was exhausted and collapsed on the ground, taking deep breaths.
Ryuji remained composed, standing in front of Sakonji Urokodaki with steady breathing.
"Ah, ah, ah, ah… Sakonji… Senior, have… I… and… Senior… Ryuji… passed the test? He… he… he…" Tanjiro asked with relief.
Sakonji Urokodaki opened the door to the wooden house and said, "Ryuji's test is over. Your test is just beginning. Come up the mountain with me!"
Hearing this, Tanjiro gasped.
"Ryuji, stay here and watch over Tanjiro's sister. I have something to ask you when I come back." Sakonji Urokodaki said to Ryuji.
Hearing this, Ryuji looked at the somewhat distraught Tanjiro and said, "Don't disappoint me."
After saying that, Ryuji walked into the wooden house and placed Nezuko on the wooden bed in a shadowy area.
Nezuko was asleep for some reason. Ryuji didn't try to wake her up. Instead, he sat cross-legged on the spot and began to rest.
Tanjiro watched Ryuji settle his sister and said to him, "Senior Ryuji, I will pass the test!"
Ryuji glanced at Tanjiro and didn't say much. He just nodded.
"Let's go, Tanjiro!" Sakonji Urokodaki's urging soon rang out.
Tanjiro didn't linger any longer. He turned around and went up the mountain with Sakonji Urokodaki.
Tanjiro had no idea what kind of test he would face going up the mountain.
Ryuji, who was waiting in the wooden house, waited until Sakonji Urokodaki returned after nightfall. He looked around and didn't see Tanjiro, so he was a little puzzled.
However, Ryuji didn't ask right away. After all, he knew that the old man wouldn't let Tanjiro die.
The two of them stared at each other for a while. Finally, Sakonji Urokodaki spoke first, "Let's have boiled fish slices tonight."
