Kaga and Kentaro were watching over her, but Noelle found herself looking over at the clock.
"T-The g-game... What happened? Noelle questioned
"T-They won, sweetie. Your team won this time. B-But don't worry about that right now. Focus on getting better." Kaga replied as she held Noelle's hand.
Noelle's hands shook, but as she looked down at the end of the hospital bed, she felt a weird sensation. As she used her left hand to reach for the blanket. Kentaro grabbed it and stopped her.
"Love... J- Just listen, okay?" Kentaro agonized as he felt sorrow take over.
"W-What's going on... Dad? Why does my leg feel weird?" Noelle questioned as she looked at her father.
"S-Sweetie, you see... We had to make a quick decision. W-We didn't want to, but it was the only way." Kaga stuttered as she started sobbing even harder.
"Please... W-What do you mean?" Noelle's eyes started to tear up once again as she felt an immense fear take over her body. One stronger than it's ever been.
Kentaro releases Noelle's hand, allowing her to pull the blanket off her left leg.
Her eyes blankly staring with tears before getting even fuller. As they started drooling from her eyes, she felt her heart bursting in agony. Causing her to erupt in an instant.
"W-WHY! WHY IS MY LEG GONE!" Noelle grieved strongly as she sobbed with her hand moving wildly.
"M-MY LEG, MY LEG IS GONE, WHY! WHY! TELL ME WHY! PLEASE!!" Noelle screams as she struggles in her hospital bed. Causing Kentaro and Kaga to hold her tightly.
A nurse walked through the door in concern for the patient.
"Is everything alright in here?" The nurse asks.
"MY LEG! MY LEG IS GONE!" Noelle continued to scream, causing Kentaro to turn to the nurse.
"I-It's fine! We're fine!" Kentaro remarks as he continues to help calm down Noelle.
An Hour Later
After struggling and wearing herself out, Noelle finally started to calm down. Leaving Kaga and Kentaro to sit with her in a controlled setting.
"Noelle, Love... To explain what happened is..." Kentaro started to stutter as he felt it was hard to explain.
"Sweetie, the pencil that was lodged into your leg was so deep that it punctured so many blood vessels. But..." Kaga started calling back to the doctor who took care of Noelle while she was unconscious.
Five Hours Ago
"You see, due to the damage done with the pencil, it's put us into a difficult spot." The doctor explained as he held an X-ray of Noelle's leg.
"W-What does that mean, doctor?" Kaga asked worriedly.
"To put it into short, even if we remove the pencil and let her leg heal normally,. I'm afraid the chance of functionally returning to it is basically zero." The doctor informed
"B-But how is that possible?! It's just a mechanical pencil!" Kentaro exclaimed.
"Exactly... Unfortunately, the way the pencil was used to deal this kind of damage is specifically why Noelle's leg is basically dead. You see, it's not just the way the pencil was lodged in there; it's also because of the way the lead was injected. Since it was so deep, it punctured blood vessels, which in turn started causing her leg to clot in several areas. This in return started to kill the leg's nerves in response. I'm afraid if we don't operate and amputate her leg now. She could experience a lot worse." The doctor exclaimed,
"A-Amputate?! Are you serious?! If you amputate her leg, she'll basically lose half of her life!" Kentaro exclaimed, getting slightly aggressive. To where Kaga steps between him and the doctor.
"Look, I'm sorry... Had we gotten to her sooner, she would've been much more likely to recover. But I'm afraid this is the most plausible option." The doctor expressed concern.
Kaga and Kentaro looked at each other before embracing each other in sorrow.
"So that's basically it... I-I'm sorry, sweetie. We didn't want to make it worse for you." Kaga said as she started to sob more.
Kentaro clenches his fists as he fights back his tears more. However, after learning of what happened to her leg, Noelle just lay there staring at the ceiling in silence.
Time went by as Kaga and Kentaro would watch over Noelle as each one of them left to do other things. Today Kaga watched over her while Kentaro ran back to their home to grab something. However, all this time, Noelle would barely interact with anyone, at least when she wasn't learning to walk with crutches on one leg.
Noelle sat up in her medical bed as she watched her phone. Kaga was sitting with her, then suddenly remembered something.
"Shoot, I forgot to grab something I brought for you. I think I left it in the car. I'll be right back, sweetie. I promise I won't be long." Kaga said with a smile and a kiss to Noelle's head before she shuffled out quickly.
After waiting a bit, Noelle turned off her phone and tossed it to her side. She began working her way out of the bed and onto her crutches. As she got positioned, she began traveling out of the room. Looking left and right before making her way to a stairwell.
As she looked up the stairs, her dull eyes blinked, and she began climbing. Leaving behind her left crutch as she used the stair rail as support.
Moments later, Kaga returns with a wrapped gift in her right hand but instantly notices Noelle wasn't in her bed.
"Noelle? Are you in the bathroom?" Kaga asked, waiting for a response. But nothing.
"Noelle?!" Kaga rushed to the bathroom and opened it to find no one inside.
"Noelle?! Where are you?" Kaga shouts as she rushes out the door. Looking left and right.
"Nurse! Nurse! I can't find my daughter!" Kaga shouts as a nurse quickly rushes to her.
"Noelle! Where are you?!" Kaga shouts as the nurse tries to calm her.
Back on the stairway, Noelle continued to struggle getting up the stairs, yet she pressed on. Reaching the top floor. As she switched her crutch to her left arm, she opened the roof's door and walked onto the roof.
Kaga and the nurse quickly search for Noelle, and as Kaga rushes past the stairwell, she sees one of Noelle's crutches through the glass window.
"N-No, please no!" Kaga busts through the door and looks up the stairs. Before pushing back out the door and shouting for the nurse.
As Noelle continues pushing forward, her mind is numbingly telling her deep and dark things. Her eyes were soulless as she continued moving towards an elevated edge. As she approaches, she finds herself looking over it, seeing cars and people going on about their day.
With one push she hops onto the ledge, a sharp pain shooting into her body as her amputated leg hits the ledge. But she continues as she fully sits on the ledge, leaving her last crutch behind him. Noelle looks down to see she's several stories from the ground below.
Yet all she could hear in her head were voices telling her to do it. Words of dark meaning and ugly ambitions. Her heart is calmly beating as she feels nothing. Even when Kaga burst through the roof's entrance door with the nurse, she instantly found herself screaming to Noelle.
But the words were drowned out and left Noelle unaware of Kaga's existence. The nurse is trying to assist Kaga as they slowly approach Noelle. Yet nothing was getting through, and so Noelle heard one last thing.
Which pushed her to push herself off the ledge. Kaga's eyes widened in shock as she fell to her knees, screaming in agony. The nurse covered her mouth as she found herself in shock as well. Then, after mere seconds, screams and concerns could be heard from below. Filling the air around the hospital with a cluster of agony.
