Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The Beast Tide Ends

Wang Cheng looked at the mole beast soaring into the sky and blurted out, "Damn, it's a planetary-level beast! This is bad!"

Before Wang Cheng could react, a stream of light from the top of the fortress pierced the air and shot upward, instantly colliding with the mole beast that had just taken flight.

Boom!

With a loud explosion at the point of impact, both the monsters and the human warriors felt their hearts skip a beat.

Along with the explosion, shockwaves rippled outward, instantly clearing out all the flying beasts within hundreds of meters.

Seeing the rain-like fall of flying monsters, Wang Cheng muttered, "So this is the might of a planetary-level warrior? Hearing about it truly pales in comparison to seeing it!"

The appearance of a planetary-level beast was like a sledgehammer striking the hearts of all human warriors.

As the shockwave subsided, the mole beast that had just taken to the air was forced back to the ground.

It stared warily at the sky, where a human warrior holding a pitch-black long blade stood.

After seeing the scene clearly, all the human warriors cheered.

"It's Lord Lieshan!"

"Long live Lord Lieshan!"

"The commander is taking action!"

"Victory to the commander!"

Even though the mole beast was caught off guard, the clash between the two revealed that Wei Wuji's strength was superior.

"Humans! Damn humans! Kill, kill, kill!" roared the mole beast from the ground, smashing a nearby monster corpse with its claw as it glared at Wei Wuji in the sky.

But Wei Wuji wasn't in the mood for words. With a flick of his long blade, a mysterious yellow glow enveloped the blade as he shouted, "Mountain-Cleaving Slash!"

The mole beast instantly sensed a life-threatening danger. Its roar halted, and fear flickered in its eyes.

With a final roar, a faint yellow glow covered its body as it lunged toward Wei Wuji.

Most of the warriors below didn't understand what was happening, but Wang Cheng saw it all clearly through the observation system.

He watched as Wei Wuji's blade extended into a several-meter-long yellow blade light that instantly shattered the yellow glow on the mole beast's head.

Then, like breaking a dead tree, the blade followed down from the beast's jaw through its neck and belly, slicing it in one swift motion.

With its charge interrupted, the mole beast fell to the ground. Its head was nearly split in two, and its innards spilled out like a rain of blood.

Even with the resilience of a planetary-level beast, it lost the ability to move after hitting the ground. As its blood flowed out, its life force gradually faded.

Wei Wuji showed no pride in his kill. He swung his blade a few more times toward the battlefield below.

With a few miserable howls, several monsters—each dozens of meters long—died instantly. This was the terror of planetary-level power; apprentice-levels couldn't resist at all.

The monsters charging at the city wall suddenly panicked. Dozens of them began fleeing in all directions.

Without those intimidating figures in front, the rest of the monster horde regained a bit of clarity and turned to flee into the wilderness.

Wang Cheng reflected on the brief battle between Wei Wuji and the mole beast. Even though it was short, he could tell the difference in power between the two.

"The gene energy on his weapon—could that be the awakened genetic talent after becoming planetary-level? It seems to be earth-element related. Truly unbeatable by those at the same level."

The retreat of the apprentice-level monsters marked the end of the beast tide in front of the fortress.

Seeing his father unharmed—just a bit exhausted—Wang Cheng finally felt at ease.

So he didn't fight other warriors over the remaining beast contributions. Instead, he replayed the moment Wei Wuji swung his blade in his mind.

"That strike definitely had over ten times the force, and the secret technique was powerful enough to break the mole beast's gene talent. Though I can't analyze it now, I can use it as a framework. With the data I collected in this battle and the 256 Basic Warrior Forms, I can create my own secret technique. Even if it's unrefined, it'll still be extremely valuable on this water-source star."

After killing a few high-level apprentice monsters, Wei Wuji didn't linger on the battlefield. He picked up the mole beast's corpse and returned to the top level of the fortress.

A few hours later, the battlefield was completely cleared of monsters. During this time, beams of light—over a hundred—fell from the sky, striking the ground. Wang Cheng found it strange but didn't investigate further.

Leng Yan removed her virtual helmet, placed it on the console, and stretched. Though she looked exhausted, her eyes gleamed with excitement.

"This beast tide is finally over again. And your dad's fine too. By the way, A-Cheng, how many contribution points did you get? Your mom got over 10,000 this time—what about you?"

Wang Cheng glanced at the screen and said nonchalantly, "Roughly the same. How do we settle these points? Don't we need to find Dad first?"

Leng Yan smiled warmly and stood up. "Nice of you to care. Let's go. We can just leave now. The contribution points will be automatically added to our personal accounts."

As she spoke, Leng Yan led Wang Cheng away from the tower. Just as they left, Wang Cheng received a message on his wristwatch.

Seeing the number 12,960 on it, he wasn't overly excited.

After the beast tide ended, the next step was cleaning up the battlefield in front of the city wall—which held many valuable materials.

Everyone was expected to help collect them. Warriors who fought the beasts not only gained contribution points for the kills, but also had first rights to the materials from the monsters they killed.

There was no worry of materials being stolen; each kill was recorded, and materials would be credited accordingly.

Still, collecting materials wasn't a pleasant job. The strong stench of blood alone was enough to drive most people away.

Fortunately, free respirators—like gas masks—were distributed to block out the battlefield odors, making it bearable for most people.

Leng Yan and Wang Cheng found Wang Hao, who had already finished collecting materials from the monsters he killed.

"Wife, A-Cheng, what are you two doing here? This place stinks. Stay here too long, and you won't be able to get rid of the smell for days."

Leng Yan rushed over, tears in her eyes, hugging him tightly. "I'm just glad you're okay!"

Wang Hao gently patted her back. Though tired, he smiled and reassured her:

"Don't worry, I'm fine. Just drained from the battle. I've taken some nutrient supplements and recovered mostly."

Then, noticing Wang Cheng casually wandering the battlefield, he laughed and said, "A-Cheng, what are you doing? Thinking about helping collect materials too?"
