Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: A Homebody with Squirrel-Like Habits

Regulus Black sent those three letters only because he saw that all of them had already been affected by his spells—he was simply casting a wider net.

For a girl just beginning to feel the stirrings of young love, even subtle hints in words were enough to plant deep emotional seeds. Let alone the fact that Regulus Black had also infused the letters and gifts with subtle spells.

Fear Illusion: causes the target to hallucinate, seeing terrifying yet realistic scenes, forcing them to flee.

Targeted Taunt: marks a specific target, making them the object of everyone's attacks.

These two spells were part of the Necromancer's curse skill tree from Diablo. After studying them, Regulus Black developed their opposites—counter-spells.

As a result, "Fear Illusion" became "Lustrous Fantasy," and "Targeted Taunt" became "Love at First Sight."

Even from the names alone, the effects of these new spells were quite clear. "Lustrous Fantasy" was cast on the letter paper, while "Love at First Sight" was used on the gifts.

Regulus Black wasn't concerned about these spells being detected. Just like system-granted skills that are cast silently, these spells were nearly impossible to notice.

That's because, at their core, these system-based spells and wizarding spells come from two completely different magical systems. Though they can produce similar effects, the gap between them—much like the difference between wizard magic and that of house-elves—is vast.

During Christmas, only a few students remained at school. Regardless of year or house, everyone was in holiday mode. From morning to night, it was all games, mischief, eating, and sleeping. Regulus Black rolled his eyes as he passed by a chubby boy snoring in the hall.

That morning, he had accompanied Hermione and the others to the train, picked up the Boggart from Kreacher at the old house, and returned to the school by noon. Aside from helping Professor Flitwick decorate for Christmas, he also spent time with Professor Snape preparing potion ingredients for the coming days.

In between, he managed to write three letters and sent them to the girls via Rena, staying busy right up until dinner.

"Today is Christmas! Everyone, enjoy yourselves and have fun!"

Dumbledore was dressed in a spectacularly festive outfit—his magical robes embroidered with runes, suns, moons, and stars—he looked like a walking Christmas tree.

Rena flew in through the window and landed directly on the backrest of Regulus Black's chair.

"Well done!"

Regulus handed his wine glass to Rena. The owl peered into the cup, then cautiously took a sip... and then another. Before long, she began hooting in all sorts of comical tones, her pupils dilating and shrinking erratically.

"Regulus! I'm not sure owls are meant to drink wine,"

Professor Flitwick kindly reminded him from nearby, as Rena's drunken antics had clearly started to draw attention.

"Looks like Rena's a little tipsy. I only gave her a drink to help her relax. My apologies, everyone—I think I'll take her back now."

Regulus Black picked up the flapping, drunken Rena—who could no longer fly—and politely excused himself from the table. There was no better excuse to leave.

"If it were my Hedwig, I'd never let her drink,"

Harry Potter had seen the whole thing from below. He couldn't believe Assistant Professor Black had given his owl wine!

"What a shame! I was just about to say we should let Hedwig try some too,"

Ron said beside him, half-joking, half-regretful, as if he'd just missed out on a good show.

The next moment, the two boys began playfully scuffling, and soon all of Gryffindor was caught in the chaos. Cakes and cream flew across the dining hall, with the food fight quickly spilling over into the other three houses.

Truth be told, Dumbledore began to regret his earlier words. In the aftermath, every student involved had five points deducted from their house—Snape made sure of that.

But none of this had anything to do with Regulus Black. He still had plenty to handle in the Room of Requirement.

Ever since his resurrection, events had come one after another. Regulus Black was starting to feel a little tired. But as a transmigrator, missing even a single opportunity within the story's plot would be a regret he couldn't afford.

The Black family needed revival. Sirius needed to be rescued. Voldemort's Horcruxes had to be gathered. Ideally, the Deathly Hallows too. And there were countless magical artifacts that had appeared in the story—like the dragon egg in Hagrid's possession.

If he couldn't get his hands on these treasures, it would be a painful thing for a homebody with squirrel-like hoarding habits.

There were already four Horcruxes in possession: Slytherin's locket, Ravenclaw's diadem, and Hufflepuff's cup—three of the four Hogwarts relics secured.

Marvolo Gaunt's ring was a black gemstone ring, a combination of both a Horcrux and a Hallow—the black gemstone itself being the Resurrection Stone.

Regulus Black didn't remove the gemstone; he simply kept it as it was.

Using these four Horcruxes, he extracted the Voldemort Soul Fragment Gem, the Red Nightmare, and the Golden Memory.

Combining two soul fragments could create one gem.

According to Regulus Black's setup, there was an effect: "+7% increase in Soul Stone capacity with each fusion of an additional soul." The expanded portion could then be cut off and used separately.

Because of that, every time he went out, Regulus Black always kept an eye out for random passersby—usually social outcasts.

Beggars, thugs, addicts—just a simple identification charm was enough to confirm their identity.

So using their souls to increase the capacity of the soul gem didn't weigh on Regulus Black's conscience at all.

After all, being a villain doesn't always mean yelling "Avada Kedavra!" while waving a wand. Still, it's best if the Ministry of Magic doesn't find out. There are 6 billion people in this world, and who knows how many die every day in accidents or from illness? A few deaths among society's forgotten wouldn't attract any attention!

Now, it should be explained that the expanded portions of the Voldemort Soul Fragment Gems are different from the originals.

The expanded part of the Red Nightmare Soul Gem isn't blood red, but rather pink.

The expanded part of the Golden Memory Soul Gem isn't golden, but a bright yellow.

So, once both soul gems had enough extra mass, Red Nightmare was embedded into the horn of the Nightmare Unicorn, and the other, Golden Memory, was placed inside the fusion of a Boggart and Dementor, held in reserve.

By adding other souls into the soul gems, they could be expanded. Once the capacity reached the equivalent of seven people's souls, Voldemort could potentially be resurrected directly.

In terms of total capacity, each added soul increased the gem by 7%, meaning up to ten souls could be added—reaching a limit of 98%. Voldemort's own soul fragments counted as two, equating to four soul portions.

When you think about it, it's truly remarkable that Voldemort managed to resurrect himself at all. After killing Harry Potter's parents, he perished entirely, and what remained was only that 2% of his soul wandering the world. The other seven portions had already been made into Horcruxes.

Aside from the four Horcruxes already mentioned, the others included Tom Riddle's diary, Voldemort's beloved snake Nagini, and Harry Potter himself.

The diary could be directly requested from his cousin Narcissa Malfoy, or he could wait until the plot reached the second movie, Chamber of Secrets, where the Malfoys would deliver it to Ginny themselves.

But who knows what unreasonable demands Mr. Malfoy would make if asked directly? Better to wait!

Countless transmigrators had already proven that narrative momentum is a massive force—unless you strike at the key moment, it's impossible to alter the storyline's direction.

Because the storyline is the history of this movie world.

Tomorrow, Harry Potter should be receiving his Christmas present, right?

That's when the Invisibility Cloak of the Potter family will finally be out of Dumbledore's hands.

Regulus Black sprawled carelessly across his large bed, feeling completely overwhelmed.

There are just too many treasures he wants! What's he supposed to do when he wants every single one?

For now, he should focus on turning the four Horcruxes he already has into small charms or pieces of gear—they've been left unused for quite some time.
