The two people disengaged so fast Serena hit her forehead on the head in an effort to get far away from Klaus as much as possible.
"I..its not what you think" she immediately blurted out to Gaius whose face was turning blue from holding his breath, she could tell he was trying not to laugh. Without a glance at Klaus, she lowered her head and flew to the bathroom, considering if she should kill herself or just find a way to erase her memory of what just happened. What had gotten into her anyway?
"Ahem" Gaius cleared his throat immediately she was gone and looked directly at Klaus with a naughty smirk on his face.
"Nothing happened, you got it all wrong" Klaus calmly spoke as he took his shirt and wore it back on. Gaius gave him a skeptical look.
"Yeah, you guys on the bed, her lips on your chest and the both of you moaning like banshees. Yeah, nothing happened."
Klaus closed his eyes as he took in a deep breath, his ears were bright red but his face betrayed nothing, he chose not to explain further.
"You brought her bags?"
Gaius frowned at him and pouted, "Changing topic huh? Yes, I brought the bags"
"Good, we should start getting ready." he looked at the bathroom door, "What's taking her so long."
"I'll get her" Gaius offered, he grunted in response and turned towards the large closet and began to pack his clothes.
"Serena, you can come out now. We have a journey ahead of us" Gaius called out with a soothing voice after knocking on the door. Soon, the door knob turned and it opened to reveal a still red faced Serena, she nodded at him and rushed to her bags, not once glancing at Klaus. She picked a pair of comfy jeans, a blue shirt and her favorite sky blue hoodie with a paur if black sneakers which she all took into the bathroom and got dressed in minutes.
"Are we ready to go ?" Klaus asked, a pair of black shades over his eyes.
"Yep" Gaius hollered.
"Yes, I am" Serena answered.
"Let's go"
It was already mid afternoon, the weather was fairly nice and the wind was cool on her face. She took the time to appreciate the cozy charm of the house though hidden deep in the woods. They took a detour and reached the road where a black range rover was waiting for them.
"I'll drive" Klaus immediately announced and headed for the drivers seat, Serena paused and made for the back seat but Gaius opened the passenger seat and motioned for her to get in with a smile on his face. She rolled her eyes helplessly as she got in and closed the door. The ride was a quiet one, the atmosphere in the car oozed an awkward tension mostly coming from Serena who was still feeling shamed about her wanton behavior. If only Gaius wasn't asleep, he could have lightened the ride with his jokes but the car was loudly snoring behind them and she couldn't find it in her heart to wake him up nor could she fall asleep herself. She watched the road with a detached interest as she thought about her grandma. Who had she been? Where was she now? She blinked tiredly and focused her eyes on the road. Suddenly, a look of terror filled her face and she screamed.
"Watch out"
Klaus sprang into action and hit the brake stopping the car, Gaius immediately woke up, alarm on his face.
"Shit"
Klaus swore as he stared out the road, a long iron spiked pole lay across the road in front of their car, if they had crossed and not noticed it, the tyres would give out and they could have a serious accident.
"How did you see it?" Klaus turned to her.
Serena was still staring out the window in shock, her face pale as she raised her eyes to look at him.
"You didn't see it? It looked very clear to me."
It was a bit dark now but there was still enough light for one to see where they were driving.
Klaus growled as he got out of the car, Gaius in tow.
"Stay here and don't move"
She nodded, not about to argue that motion.
"As I thought, they used wolfsbane on it" Klaus snorted as he stared at the pole, a grim look in his eyes.
"They really thought well, we can't see objects that are covered in wolfsbane from a far distance" Gaius muttered.
"It has to be them, I swear ilk kill those bastards once I get my hands on them." Klaus swore as he dug his hands in his leather jacket to stop him from punching something.
"Klaus" Gaius called out in a warning tone, he immediately went into alert mode, his eyes sharp, his body poised for action.
"Rogues" he muttered.
One by one, dark silhouette shapes that walked on all fours strolled out from the sorrounding woods, their fangs wide open and their feral eyes filled with killing intent as they watched the two men. Serena was frozen in terror as she saw these creatures, she couldn't help it when she screamed and tried to stiffle it by covering her mouth with her hands. Too late. The wolves were already staring at her, their animal faces zeroed on her terrified face and she could swear they actually smirked.
Klaus growled dangerously as soon as he noticed they were also targeting her.
"Make sure they don't get to her"
"Got it"
As if on command, the wolves all sprung on them, their teeth snarling as they tried to reach for their throats. Klaus took care of the ones on his right while Gaius took care of the ones on his left. They were a well oiled team as they used their partly shifted hands and head to fight, taking down a good number of the wolves. Serena watched all these with bated breaths and clenched hands, her heart beating in fright as she prayed they both came out unhurt. A glass being shattered made her flinch and before she knew it, the door was flung open and she was dragged away by a brute of a man. She screamed as loud as she could before being slapped brutally on the face.
"Serena!" Klaus roared as he saw her being hauled into the woods, he tried to move towards her but two more wolves sprang in front of him blocking his way, he roared his anger at them as he smashed their heads together.
"Go after her, I got this" ,Gaius yelled.
Klaus nodded and was about to dash off when he heard a loud gunshot and Serena's scream, his heart stopped cold.
