Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

We raised glasses, celebrating Aurum account and our teamwork. As the night wore on, conversations flowed easily. Julian and I discussed art, sharing favorite artists.

Our shoulders touched, sparks flying. I pulled back, attributing the shiver to the cool breeze. Esther voice cut through the noise. Karaoke anyone? Ryan groaned, please no. I laughed. Esther, you know I can't resist.

Julian gaze caught mine. A fleeting moment, a connection.

Esther dragged me to the karaoke stage. Isabella, show them your skills. Ryan covered his ears. I selected "Since u been gone" by Kelly Clarkson.

The music began, I belted out the lyrics. Esther joined, harmonizing. Our performances earned cheers. Surprisingly, not terrible Ryan said. Julian

whistled, impressive Isabella.

Esther grabbed the microphone, my turn. She chose "Lady Marmalade". Ryan reluctantly joined. Their duet brought the house down. Julian laughed. Esther, you are a secret diva.

Next, Julian surprised us. He chose Wonder wall by Oasis. His deep voice commanded attention. I harmonized, our voice blending. Applause erupted

As we left the stage, Julian smiled. Who knew we had hidden talents?

We left the view, Manhattan vibrant nightlife fading into the background.

Esther and Ryan bid us farewell, heading home. Julian and I walked side by side, comfortable silence between us. Thanks for tonight, I said breaking the silence. My pleasure, Julian replied.

You are surprised me with your karaoke skills. I smiled

We stopped at a street corner, awaiting the walk signal. Julian turned to me.

Isabella, can I ask you something? Of course. Are you happy here, at Eclipse? His genuine interest sparked warmth. Yes I am, you've given me incredible opportunities.

The walk signal flashed. We stepped forward

I am glad, Julian said, his voice low. You deserve it. Our eyes met. As we parted ways, I felt a spark

As I entered

my apartment, my mind wandered. Why did Julian ask that? Did he care beyond being my CEO? I shook off my thoughts. Focus on work. But curiosity lingered.

Next morning, I arrived at Eclipse. Julian stood by the window. Isabella, may I ask you something? Of course I replied. What drives you? His question caught me off guard. No one's ever asked me that.

Julian eyes locked onto mine. I want to understand what motivates you. I hesitated. Ethan…my past…it taught me to rely on myself. His expression softened. I'm sorry, you deserve better. His empathy surprised me.

Thank you I whispered. Our gazes held

Julian's empathy had touched a chord. I appreciate your understanding, I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

Julian nodded. I know what it's like to be driven by past experiences. His words hinted at a deeper pain. Julian what happened to you? I asked, curiosity getting the better of me

He paused, collecting his thoughts. Family expectations, pressure to succeed…sometimes it feels suffocating. His vulnerability took me aback.

I understand, i said, sharing a fragile smile.
