Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Games Begin

An ancient yellowing colosseum of rock that seems to warp around the eye. It looks like it could contain almost a hundred thousand spectators, but when you gaze at it you can clearly see millions if not billions of spectators yelling and roaring cheers of rage, delight, and anticipation.

The middle of the colosseum opens up into a void filled with twinkling stars. In forefront of which there lies a slowly rotating planet. The planet is covered in about three quarters water and dotted with several green, brown, and yellow landmasses, some big, some small.

Along the perimeter of this planet there lie 10 humanoid figures suspended upright by an invisible force.

Matt slowly opens his crusty eyes only to be assaulted by vibrant colors, diverse clothes, and humanoid figures that were not quite human. What was weirder, was that all was that all of them seemed to be yelling at him, yet the only thing he heard was his own hyperventilating. Swiftly ignoring the fact that a seemingly endless number of aliens were staring at him, he snapped his eyes shut and wondered when he would wake up from this dream.

After about one minute, he reopened his eyes waiting to see something different. Only to see that the aliens were still silently cheering for him. How he knew they were cheering for him as a completely... Wait. How did he know they were cheering for him? As far as he could recall he never took Alienese 101 as any of his numerous grad school classes.

He was majored in... What was he majored in? Why didn't he know what he was majored in? Why could he understand what these aliens were yelling about? It's not like he suddenly put on a translator cuff. In fact, looking at himself he was only wearing brown cotton clothes that you would see a peasant farmer in your history holo wearing.

Why was he wearing this? Why couldn't he remember putting this on? WHY THE F*CK WAS HE SUSPENDED IN MID F*CKING AIR OVER A PLANET!!! He was supposed to be waking up to... He needed to get to.... Why couldn't he remember anything? Forcing himself to pause and take a breath, he realized he couldn't have forgotten everything because he still remembered his name. He was Matt [_________].

What?

What was his last name again? Who cares right it's just a last name? He started hyperventilating as realized more and more of nothing.

Who was my father? My mother? Siblings? Jobs? School? Wife? Girlfriend? My own f*cking last name?!? Why can't I remember anything?!??!

As if a higher being had answered his prayer, a translucent black screen shimmered into existence in front of his face.

Before Matt had anytime to ponder this, suddenly a cute pink slime with a spherical shape and a diameter of about a foot, wearing a top hat sitting on a silver cube flickered into existence over the planet.

"Welcome to the 10847813985th centurial Ascendant Games!!!", boomed the miniscule slime in a deep rich voice.
