Chapter 7 - 7. Unexpected event

Skye walked towards the break room, she had to stop the blood in her nose first after which she also had to thicken her makeup so that her father's slap marks were not visible.

"Why are you here?" asked the head supervisor.

"Just for a moment, sir, I have to clean this up," Skye said as she showed her bloodstained handkerchief.

"Are you sick? If you're sick, you don't have to work," said the head supervisor.

"No sir, I accidentally bumped into the door when I wanted to go to the toilet. So, I want to rest for a while," Skye replied.

"That's it then. Hurry back to the event room, because more and more guests are coming," said the head supervisor.

"Yes, sir," Skye replied with a smile.

The head supervisor left Skye just like that; actually, the head supervisor could see the slap mark on Skye's cheek. But since Skye said she only bumped into the door, he ignored what he saw.

After thickening her makeup, she returned to the hotel ballroom. A smile was plastered on her face, as if nothing had happened. Skye father, who saw it, clenched his fist. He didn't like Skye smiling because it reminded him of his wife, who had left him.

"What's wrong?" asked Skye's father's wife because she felt her husband was upset.

"That woman, she still dared to show her face. Even though I ordered her not to show her face because you must be uncomfortable," Skye's father replied with a smile and both hands clasped one of his wife's hands.

"Let it go, as long as you don't cause trouble like before," his wife said. "She's working too, so let it go," she continued to say.

She did not like the woman who had claimed to be her husband's daughter. Her husband's daughter was dead, that's what her husband had told her four years ago when they first met. It was Jackob Hamlet who rescued her from the people who wanted to rob her. From there she hired Jackob as her personal driver. Jackob told her that he had been living with his wife for a long time. His daughter died because she was sick of missing her mother, who didn't come home. So, she didn't believe that the woman was her husband's daughter.

When her company was threatened with bankruptcy, it was her husband who gave her money so that her company would not go bankrupt. Her husband said that he got the money from selling his house to help her. Feeling indebted to Jackob, she finally agreed to marry him. Even though she felt that she was too old for Jackob because she was five years older than Jackob. But Jackob proved that age would not hinder his feelings for her.

"Mom," a woman called, making Jackob's wife turn around.

"Issabel, why did you just arrive?" her mother asked.

"There was a problem at the boutique, so I had to solve it first," Issabel replied.

"Today you will be introduced as Sean's fiancée," said her mother.

"Mom, he didn't even come to see me. How can I suddenly marry him?" Issabel asked, not accepting her mother's decision.

"The family has agreed, and it's for your betterment too, dear. The Voughn family is very famous, your little boutique will definitely be very famous if you get engaged to Sean," her mother advised.

"It's for Mommy's benefit, not mine! I agreed to meet him; that doesn't mean I agreed to get engaged and even marry him!" Issabel refused.

She did not tell her mother the truth because she was afraid of Sean's threats. When she met Sean, he was cold to her. Even when she talked a lot, Sean didn't say anything. It wasn't until the end of their meeting that Sean spoke, "There will be no relationship between us! If you insist, I will destroy your boutique myself! Shut your mouth about this meeting!" Those words were so frightening to Issabel because of the cold and firm tone of voice and intimidating gaze.

The Voughn family was not just anybody, especially since Sean was the heir to the company owned by Voughn. So, even if they continued their relationship, she was sure that Sean said he would do it. She could not sacrifice the boutique she had just built to be destroyed just like that.

"You, given a way to be more successful, you refuse. Already, just follow what the parents say. Sean's mother and his family have accepted you," said her mother, looking upset at her daughter. Issabel gave her mother an annoyed look, but she complied. She couldn't do anything because the boutique existed because of her mother.

Today was Sean's grandfather's birthday. Sean, with his cold face, stood beside his grandfather, who was talking to the guests of the family business partners.

His mother approached Sean's grandfather. "Dad, it's time for the event to start," Sean's mom said to his father-in-law.

Sean's grandfather said goodbye to his business partner. Now Sean's grandfather was standing on the stage. The event had started; after finishing blowing out the candles, now Sean's father spoke. "Today is my father's happy day. To add to the happiness of this day for my father, I will give what my father has always wanted," said Mike Voughn—Sean's father.

Sean's mom calls a woman to come on stage. The spotlight was now on the woman who came on stage. The guests and waiters working were focused on the event ahead.

Skye smiled at the man who helped her. "Looks like this is his happy day. That beautiful woman must be his girlfriend. I'm glad I could be a part of the handkerchief man's happy day," Skye said.

Skye walked away from there because she had to get more drinks to distribute to the guests. Sean, whose eyes were fixed on Skye, quickly walked off the stage, not caring if everyone was now staring at him. Not to mention the call from his father using the mic. The spotlight was also now directed towards him, following his steps.

Sean suddenly grabbed a woman's shoulder, turned her around, and pulled her waist closer to him. The woman he pulled was Skye. Skye looked both speechless and surprised at the sudden turn of events.

"What are you doing?" asked Skye, who was still staring at Sean, who was in front of her.

Sean was now staring at the stage. "This is a gift for grandpa," said Sean and immediately kissed Skye's lips.
