Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Old man Caius

...

Sythrik found himself standing in front of an insignificant building of brownish rocks. It's size was laughable for a place meant for work.

His lips curled into a faint smile, finding comfort within the presence of such an insignificant creation as he spoke with a curious tone, "I wonder why mr. Caius called me in for a meeting today?" He took hold of the bronze door knob, twisting it gently before he kept pondering, "To be frank, I believe this will be our first! Which, when I think about it, it seems weird. Why now? What caused it to happen? Is it bad news?" The thoughts ran amok, as if embodying a wild, relentless storm.

He carefully pushed the dark brown wooden door open, feeling a faint resistance.

Woosh*

A gust of wind swept across his face, forming a disoriented hairstyle, wild and unkept. Sythrik quickly pulled himself back, walking inside without a moment of thought and closed the door. The air changed back towards Sythrik's preference within a second after entering. He was now standing within a small mud room area with four hooks and shelves lined up on each side, therefore facing each other.

Due to the hot weather he did not wear his usual robe, and instead wore his more basic attire-a linen shirt with black trousers and a pair of dark brown shoes. He simply took off his shoes, placed them neatly and continued through the narrow hallway.

The moment before he arrived to the main room where his office was, he took a turn to the right and entered the bath. He made his way to the mirror and with uncanny perception he navigated his hands to stroke the right places, as well as brushing the right direction. "That should do it!" He said to himself, walking back to his main course with a slightly proud smile tugging his lips.

Sythrik grabbed the wooden door knob, turning it sideways as he pushed open the door. He dodged suddenly, preparing for the winds' retaliation. However, there was nothing that met him except for a confused pair of aged eyes. "S-Sir Caius?!" Sythrik blurted out in surprise, quickly regaining his usual noble-like posture in an attempt to cover his childish action.

Caius stopped his staring and pointed at the sofa to Sythrik's left as he spoke with a warm, and experienced tone, "Could you take a seat?" Sythrik nodded without hesitation and walked towards the sofa that leaned toward the wall. He sat down and asked the standing old man, "Aren't you gonna sit down as well?" Caius looked at him with warm and kind gaze, and spoke with an even warmer tone, "I will, but before that, what would you like to drink?" Sythrik took a moment to recall what they owned, then asked with a generous smile, "Could I get a glass of milk?" Old man Caius raised an eyebrow, then smiled an uncontrollable smile. "Of course." Caius replied, his short and white hair faintly dancing with each step he took towards the kitchen.

It was a small living room with three other rooms at the right side of the main room, in which they use as their offices. One of them, however, were empty as it lacked an owner, a worker. Before you could reach any of the three rooms, you would have to walk passed the small and simple kitchen first.

...

After having waited for a five to six minutes, Sythrik finally saw an old Caius approaching him with a cup of milk in one hand, and a cup of black coffee in his right hand. Caius placed the milk before Sythrik before sitting down opposite of him. "You must be wondering the reason to why I called in this meeting, right?" Caius spoke with a lingering weight in his throat, as if he was struggling to speak the words.

Sythrik glanced at his somewhat awkward behavior before replying, "I am."

After a small moment of silence, Caius finally broke it. He spoke with a heavy heart and a forced smile, "I plan on shutting down this place, once and for all."

Sythrik's eyes widened in disbelief, seeing a place he had come to care for fall into ruin made his heart drop without warning. He looked at Caius with firm eyes, gazing at him with a curious intent, asking a simple yet profound question,

"Why?"
