I woke up Inside of the school. It looked like a nurses office, there were beds, and dividers, almost like a modern day doctors office.
I was all alone in there
Just me
Only me
And the proctor
"We had to postpone the exam in order to treat the injured. It'll start back up in about 30 minutes."
He said as he got up about to leave
"You can explore the school a little until then! Don't get lost!"
"Wait! Uh.. Mr Proctor."
"Call me Zen."
"Zen.. What's the next exam?"
"You'll see. Toodles!" He said as he slipped through the door
And he's gone.
"Damn that guy's mysterious.." I muttered
I guess I could take him up on his offer and try to find Maelin
I got up and took the bandages off of my head
"Damn, Must've got a wicked head injury."
"Why are you talking to yourself.?" Maelin said, leaning on the door frame.
"AGH!" I jumped and fell off of the bed
"Don't scare people like that!"
"I saw your fight with that chimera." She said in a monotone
"Yeah, It's no big deal."
Except it is a big deal because I'm just badass like that
"Question." She walked up to me and got all in my face
I was obviously flustered and turned to look away
"That fire, from your feet. I thought you couldn't use magic. How did you do it?"
I scooted further back into the bed so that I wasn't so close to Maelin
"My theory is that I can absorb magic. It was the same type of fire magic that William used."
"Want to test it?" She grinned and grabbed my hand
"Sure.." I said, reluctantly
Maelin slipped my hands under her hair and rested it on her cheek
"Try it."
This is the most nice she's ever been to me! Normally she's like:
"Don't touch me, peasant!"
Or she's acting all stuck up like she's better than everyone else.
"Go on."
"Mhm"
I nodded in confirmation
I closed my eyes and attempted to sense the mana inside of her. I imagined it leaving her body through her cheek and entering mine through my hand. I was able to take mana, however just a little
Maelin flinched when I took her mana
"That hurt, You Jerk!" She shouted and punched me across the face
"I just got a head injury! Watch it!"
I quickly picked myself up
"I could care less."
She stood back and looked away, giving me the silent treatmen
There was a loud silence before I attempted to break the ice
"Your face is really soft."
"What kind of compliment is that!"
She barked
"Whatever, try to use some of my magic."
"Sure but I don't know what you can do."
"Light magic, Chop Chop."
Here's the thing..
I don't know how!
"I take it you can't?"
She stood up and gave me a condescending look
"Were you reading my mind?"
I chuckled awkwardly.
"I'm glad you came to check up on me, it really means a lot."
"Hmph. Don't thank me, we're friends.. I suppose."
She still spoke in this tone that screamed "I'm better than you"
I stood up from the bed.
"I need to get back to the exam, I'll see you after I pass!"
"You're pretty confident."
She giggled
As I Left I gave her a thumbs up.
Then I found Veseon and Aieron.
"I figured it out!" Veseon shot up from sitting on the ground
I sighed aloud
"What did you find out?"
"Your curse!" He pointed his finger in my face
"I mean it's not like I'm trying to keep it a secret from you guys. I don't know much about it myself."
I sat down beside a sleeping Aieron.
"Speaking of curses, do you have one?"
"Yes I do!" Veseon proudly said
"I can go into a state where I have infinite mana, and I can cast SS class spells, But It makes me very unlucky, to a point where it's lethal if I have it on too long."
"And how long is too long..?"
"8 Seconds.."
..
..
..
..
The hell can you do in 8 seconds!? That's not even enough to say the incantation of a SS class spell!
"It's okay though! I'm still improving! It jumped from 4 seconds to 8 seconds in a year!"
I shot my head up when he said this.
"Improve!?"
"Yeah.. All curse users can strengthen their curses, it's common knowledge."
"Hell Yeah!" I jumped up off of the ground and pumped my fist into the air
Maybe I'm not entirely lackluster! I thought I was doomed to be subpar for all of my life! That means I can be as strong as father, and my healing factor! Or if I can steal magic!
I can be a badass!
Aieron woke up and Veseon stared at me like I was insane. I also got the attention of others in the area, which made me a little embarrassed
I slowly sat down with my head facing down to the ground.
"The Third, and Final test, for those of you who passed the last exam, will be taking a written test. This test will cover:
The outskirts of the dark continent
Magic Theory
Chimera Anatomy.
For these are the basis of being an adventurer. Those of you who 'Failed' The Last exam will have another chance due to the A+ Class Threat."
The Proctor said, projecting his voice like a loudspeaker.
A written test that I didn't even study for. Great. I can just cheat..
Suddenly, Desks and seats, and papers emerged from the ground. And everyone took their seats.
The test was relatively easy. (I cheated off of Aieron)
So nothing necessarily noteworthy happened
The proctor- Zen, informed us that we'll be informed if we've been enrolled or not. We were each given guest dorms by the campus to stay until we've been informed.
Veseon and Aieron suggested we go shopping while we're waiting for our acceptance letter. Naturally I invited Maelin as well.
I walked back to the group with Maelin and Veseon already started acting up
"She's cute! Whats-"
I cut off Veseon
"Please don't! For your sake.."
I covered his mouth
Maelin stood there bearing an ominous look
"Is that any way to greet someone as important as me? I'll let you try again. Rejoice, It's rare I give chances to commoners."
She stepped closer, looming over me and Veseon
Veseon shrunk down, with his head facing the ground
I tried to warn him..
"I'm just playing! Loosen up!" She giggled
Veseon stayed shrunk down on the ground
"Oh.. Uh, let's go shopping!" Aieron reluctantly said as he slowly started inching away
We went shopping and I was able to figure out the Shells-to-USD conversion.
So about 3 shells is equal to 1 US Dollar.
So.. I have about.. One hundred.. Fifty something..?
Eh I was never good with numbers
But the prices here are way less.
A pound of apples which would cost about 6 dollars are about 5 shells here, which means it was roughly a dollar. However the prices are very inconsistent because the economy isn't regulated by the government here on Aeoland, It's regulated by the people. So naturally the prices are different in different locations, which makes it very inconsistent.
I was calculating my money and whatnot until I saw a thief run down the street and turn into an alleyway.
Now.. Nolan Von Blaire raised a hero. If I see something wrong I'm supposed to do something.
So I chased the thief into the alleway and eventually reached a dead end.
"Stop right there! Give back what you stole!"
The thief sighed
"No, Runt! Scurry off!"
"No can do!"
I stood my ground
The thief groaned
"Have it your way!" He shot a decently sized rock towards my head
I reached back to grab my sword off of my back and cut the rock.
Only to realize that I don't have a sword on me! It broke during the exam!
The rock hit me in my head and I fell back on the ground
"Ughhh.." I groaned and rubbed my head
"Sorry Kid!" The thief said.
I heard a loud thud and a light illuminated the alleyway
Maelin had shot the thief with a beam of light, knocking him unconscious.
"To think you took down an A class Chimera.. Losing to a rock."
Maelin stood over me
"I had that, Y'know.."
"Shut up." She laughed
Maelin crouched down to heal my injury.
When Maelin uses healing magic her hair floats upwards. This time while she was healing me I noticed that the roots of her hair were blonde, almost white.
She made eye contact with me and I looked away.
We ended up returning the stolen property and going back to the guest dorms.
The dorms were pretty nice, they have a bed, bathroom, shower, and everything you'd need.
I laid down on the bed and went to sleep for the rest of the day. I was exhausted.
I woke up the next day to an acceptance letter under my door.
