The year is 2028, as the world's tensions rise, countries declare war on eachother. On the battlefield, many men die, only to not be remembered again.
Inside the landing ship that is being sent to the frontlines, many bullets are heard deflecting from the ship's exterior. "Hey…"A soldier nudges his ally next to him, "After all this, do you think we will be remembered after the war?"
"Well…" The other soldier replied, "Only the victors are remembered in history" The soldier said, ruffling his beard, "So no matter what, even if we sacrifice ourselves, we will only be forgotten if we did not win."
"But what if everyone lost?" The soldier asked, looking towards the bearded soldier, his eyes shrouded in concern.
"How?" The bearded soldier replied, looking towards his comrade with a gaze of uncertainty.
"What if everyone unleashed every single loaded tip that they have in their arsenal?" The other soldier said, looking outside, seeing that they are a few hundred meters away from their landing spot.
"Well, that'd just be the end of everything, so who would be there to remember us?" The bearded soldier replied, as he stood up and prepared to land.
In the US, people live peacefully, however, they are surprised to hear an alarm coming from all electronic devices.
"Everyone, this is not a drill." Is what is heard in the devices, as a monotonous voice is played. "We have detected several launches from a foreign nuclear missile base that could threaten our country based on its trajectory. Grab important necessities and evacuate now. The missile will arrive in approximately 45 minutes."
Everyone panics, as they rush into nuclear bunkers, however, there are limits to how much people can fit.
Hundreds of families rush towards the closing vault door, as they bang on it, begging to let them in. screams were heard, however, after a few minutes, the air was empty, except for a few explosions heard outside.
Inside and outside of the battlefield, multiple nuclear strikes were used, causing the world to enter a state of global cooling, as the unaffected areas that aren't destroyed by the radiation get a lack of sunlight, causing a great famine that kills everything on the surface.
However, a few animals adapted and had mutations which turned them into unrecognizable monsters, dwelling across the desolate land, as nuclear winter fell on them. Other plant life mutated to adapt to the little sunlight and absorbed radiation, changing their form.
As the new mutations came, a mysterious substance reacted with the radiation and turned into an enigmatic power that flows around the world, similar to what is in fantasy books. This strange force is similar to the mana that was once fictional.
A century and a half passes, as this power flowed across the world and became a naturally occurring force, while some of the radiation has subsided. Humans have decided to venture beyond their bunker to visit this post-apocalyptic world that has magic.
