Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Saiki Kusuo, Is He Hiding His True Abilities?

[Could Saiki Kusuo, like Ayanokoji Kiyotaka, be someone hiding his true abilities?]

'It seems a few people know about Ayanokoji's background. Although your guess isn't wrong, it's better if you don't know the truth.'

[If that's the case, then perhaps I can acquire two secret weapons from this year's freshmen. Moving from Class D to Class A isn't impossible.]

'Yare yare, I have no intention of moving to Class A. Class A seems too attention-grabbing, and it's easy to become a target for others.'

Saiki Kusuo thought to himself.

Even at school, he could hear the thoughts of countless upperclassmen.

The other classes were working hard to climb up, scheming to drag Class A down.

Meanwhile, Class A students were doing everything they could to maintain their position.

Therefore, Saiki Kusuo had no interest in moving to Class A. If the monthly points were sufficient, he wouldn't mind staying in Class D forever.

Of course, this was assuming he didn't run out of points.

Although Saiki Kusuo could teleport home every night, he still needed to eat and take care of other necessities during the day at school.

The school provided free food and basic supplies, but those were just the bare minimum, barely enough to keep students from starving.

Saiki Kusuo had seen many upperclassmen in the cafeteria eating only the free meals, which had no meat. Based on their thoughts, the taste of those vegetarian dishes was far from pleasant.

Saiki Kusuo couldn't accept food of that level.

[I'll talk to Saiki Kusuo later and see if I can get some useful information from him.]

Chabashira Sae finished her cigarette and turned to look at Saiki Kusuo, who was not far away. She had deliberately waited for him on his way back to the dorm—

But she suddenly noticed that Saiki Kusuo had changed direction and was walking quickly in the opposite direction.

"Saiki!"

Chabashira Sae frowned and called out Saiki Kusuo's name loudly, causing him to stop in his tracks.

'Was I discovered? I was planning to sneak away before she noticed, but there are too many surveillance cameras in the school. Otherwise, I could have just teleported away.'

Saiki Kusuo sighed internally and turned to face Chabashira Sae.

'Although her goal is to move Class D to Class A, from every angle, this teacher is unreliable and incompetent in every sense.'

While Chabashira Sae's hands-off approach usually allowed Saiki Kusuo to move freely, it would be troublesome if she tried to extract information from him.

Although Chabashira Sae didn't know Saiki Kusuo's true abilities, Saiki Kusuo had no intention of revealing himself or getting involved in any class promotion battles.

"Saiki, were you pretending not to see me just now? As a student, how dare you ignore your homeroom teacher?"

Chabashira Sae's frown deepened, her gaze sharp like an eagle's, locked onto Saiki Kusuo.

"I just remembered I left something in the library. I was going back to get it."

Saiki Kusuo replied without changing his expression.

"Oh? What did you leave?"

"My student ID."

Saiki Kusuo answered calmly.

[I don't believe such a coincidence. What a lame excuse, Saiki.]

Chabashira Sae thought to herself, then spoke.

"Well, I'm heading to the library too. Let's go together."

"Sure."

Saiki Kusuo nodded, and the two turned around, heading back to the library.

[I don't believe he just happened to leave something behind. He was probably trying to avoid me.]

Chabashira Sae thought as she followed Saiki Kusuo back to the library. Just as they reached the entrance, a staff member walked out and immediately spotted Saiki Kusuo.

"You're Saiki-kun, right? You borrowed a few books earlier, right? I remember you! You left your student ID!"

With that, the staff member handed Saiki Kusuo his student ID.

[Did he really leave his student ID behind?]

Chabashira Sae raised an eyebrow, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes.

The moment Saiki Kusuo read Chabashira Sae's thoughts, he had used his psychokinesis to teleport his student ID to the library, making it look like he had genuinely forgotten something.

[Even forgetting his student ID... Saiki Kusuo seems a bit careless. Did he leave it in the library on purpose? Unlikely.]

Chabashira Sae's gaze lingered on Saiki Kusuo's face, her opinion of him slightly lowered.

This was exactly what Saiki Kusuo wanted. He didn't want to be targeted by this troublesome teacher.

"Saiki-kun, in the entrance exam, your scores in every subject were exactly in the middle of the class. Every student has strengths and weaknesses, so their rankings vary. But your scores in every subject were exactly in the middle. Are you saying you controlled your scores on purpose?"

Chabashira Sae narrowed her eyes.

In fact, her guess was completely correct. Saiki Kusuo had deliberately controlled his scores. During each exam, he used his telepathy and X-ray vision to see how others were performing and adjusted his scores accordingly.

Even without relying on his psychic abilities, Saiki Kusuo could easily score full marks. However, he didn't want to draw too much attention.

'Yare yare, even though I deliberately controlled my scores, having all of them in the middle still raises suspicion. Maybe next time I'll have to fluctuate my scores a bit. But since exams are taken one by one, controlling the total score will be much more troublesome.'

Saiki Kusuo thought this but replied calmly:

"You're overestimating me, Chabashira-sensei. Controlling scores is something ordinary people can't do. And if I wanted to rank exactly in the middle for every subject, wouldn't I need to know everyone else's scores too?"

Chabashira Sae didn't respond.

Controlling scores wasn't impossible. For example, that Ayanokoji Kiyotaka had scored exactly 50 in every subject.

But if Saiki Kusuo could precisely control his rankings, he might be even more terrifying than Ayanokoji.
