Zane's POV
I shivered, and without a word, Alfie pulled the blanket tighter around me, pressing a warm hand to my shoulder.
"Anyway, I'll begin my investigation from that location," Knox said firmly, his tone all business. "But I'd still like to ask you a few questions, Zane...just not now. I'll wait until you're better and able to think clearly."
I gave a weak nod in response, my throat too dry for words.
"Stay safe Zane. I'll come check up on you later. I have to go to work now." Knox added, giving me one last meaningful look before turning and quietly leaving the room.
A moment of silence followed before Silas finally spoke.
"How are you feeling now?" he asked promting me to turn my gaze towards him, his voice low and heavy with guilt. His head was bowed slightly, his posture tense with remorse as he stood awkwardly at the foot of the bed. "If I hadn't left you alone… maybe none of this would have happened. I'm sorry, Zane."
