Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Villagers scold Widow Li, the Lin family has enough meat

Mother Lin looked at the speaker, a disdainful expression in her eyes.

"Who do I think it is? So shameless, no surprise it's you."

Although some villagers are greedy for small advantages, they're not that shameless.

Lin Feng's discount is already generous.

Aunt Lin chimed in, "You shameless widow, you're obsessed with money.

Why don't you give everyone silver for free?

And let the Lin family give away pork for nothing?

Is it easy for Little Feng to hunt?

Besides, the Lin family has five children to raise. Food, clothing, everything costs money."

Other villagers echoed the condemnation.

"The price of pork is already low. Greed should have a limit. Nothing is truly free."

The idle villagers were even harsher.

"You, Widow Wang, can earn money lying down. Why are you still greedy?"

...

Widow Wang hadn't expected this. Instead of support, she was met with scolding.

Hearing it all, she wished to disappear, then ran home in disgrace.

As soon as she left, the neighbor's yard became peaceful again.

The Lin Feng family always sold extra prey at low prices, so they were well-liked.

Lin Feng laid dry firewood down and placed the wild boar on it.

Then he pulled out a slaughter knife and cut pork to weigh.

The villagers—one bought five catties, another ten. Soon, half the pig was sold.

Lin Feng earned four taels of silver.

No one bought the rest. Lin Feng didn't plan to sell it anyway.

He gave Mr. Hong a portion as tuition.

The rest was kept for home use.

Little Sanbao, the foodie, teared up as he watched the pork leave.

He grabbed the boar's tail, dragging it toward the kitchen.

Mother Lin picked him up, "My poor grandson. Grandma will stew meat for you."

Zhou Chunlan had mostly recovered and helped out.

Lin Feng cut the meat.

Zhou Chunlan took it to the kitchen.

There was a cellar there that kept meat fresh for five to six days.

After prepping, Lin Feng jumped in to arrange the meat.

Zhou Chunlan handed it down; he arranged it in the cellar.

When they were done, Mother Lin had nearly finished stewing.

Today, she was extravagant.

She made a big pot of braised pork and cooked rice.

Last New Year, they couldn't afford this.

Because the original Lin Feng was lazy and drank too much.

Now Lin Feng could hunt and fish.

Life improved.

At least, that's what Mother Lin thought.

Lin Feng believed it was thanks to his strength and kung fu.

Otherwise, food, clothes, prey—everything could be robbed.

In this world, the strong prey on the weak, without shame.

The family ate happily.

The kids' bellies were round and full.

Lin Feng was also satisfied. His mother's stew was better than his roasted meat.

Still, he wouldn't eat at home during breakthroughs—it'd scare his family.

They'd think he was a reincarnated hungry ghost.

...

At night.

Zhou Chunlan walked into Lin Feng's room and shyly said, "Husband, I'm fully recovered."

Then she went back to the main room.

Hearing this, Lin Feng swallowed, his heart beating faster.

Her words meant: "You can come back to sleep."

It was bound to happen.

He looked at Erbao and Sanbao sleeping beside him.

"Daddy can't sleep with you tonight. Daddy's going to sleep with your mother."

Sanbao sat up, "I want to go too! I want to sleep in the middle!"

This little one thought only of food.

"You're not allowed. Try and you'll never eat meat again."

Sanbao pouted, very aggrieved.

He thought for a bit, then lay back down.

Meat was more important.

Lin Feng bathed in the yard's water tank.

There were three big tanks—two used for bathing.

Afterward, he dried off, changed clothes, and entered the main room.

Zhou Chunlan, sitting on the bed, said, "Why are you here? Go back to sleep."

Lin Feng raised an eyebrow—had he misunderstood?

He turned to leave.

Zhou Chunlan quickly called, "Come back!"

He looked back, confused—didn't she tell him to go?

She said, "Since you're here, stay. Sleep here tonight."

Lin Feng realized he hadn't misunderstood, just wasn't proactive.

The original Lin Feng was a straight man, not proactive.

He sat on the bed. Zhou Chunlan ignored him, undressed, and got into bed.

Lin Feng also got in, warning himself not to act too forward.

He lay still.

But his heart raced—his wife's scent was too tempting.

Zhou Chunlan also felt nervous.

Despite having five kids, why did he act so stiff?

She waited for him to move—but he didn't.

She thought, "This blockhead is still a blockhead."

Lin Feng tried to calm his mind, chanting the Heart Sutra.

Then Zhou Chunlan leaned over, voice sweet, "Husband, your heart's beating fast."

Then the bed creaked.

It was as if the old bed said, "I can't take this anymore."

Mother Lin, awakened in the wing room, got up and tightly shut her door.

...

After a night of wind and rain—

The next morning, Lin Feng got up to practice boxing.

He felt refreshed. "It's good to be young!"

The last time he was so indulgent was in a past life—and his back hurt for days.

Lin Feng and Mother Lin didn't wake Zhou Chunlan—they let her rest.

Mother Lin led the five children to eat, then taught them etiquette for apprenticeship.

Lin Feng planned to visit Mr. Hong while the pork was fresh.

Zhou Chunlan woke up with the sun already high.

Blushing slightly, she came out, embarrassed.

Mother Lin immediately said, "You're up, Chunlan? I'll heat your meal."

Zhou Chunlan helped her in the kitchen.

Lin Feng took five good pieces of boar meat from the cellar.

He valued the children's education—reading was vital.

If you can't read, even divine manuals are useless.

After Zhou Chunlan ate, the family dressed in clean clothes and headed for Mr. Hong's house.
