Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: Someone Set a Fire

*My Big Fat Greek Wedding* doesn't have a ton of filming locations—just a handful like Toula's house, the travel agency, the high school, the restaurant, the church, and a few others. But Toula's house? That's the star of the show, hands down.

Filming's been smooth sailing so far. If nothing goes wrong, we'll wrap the whole thing up in the next month. Even better, Nicole Kidman's suddenly warmed up to Dunn for some reason—don't ask me why, but it's a win!

That said, when Dunn knocked on her door at 9 p.m., she was still pissed. "I've told you a million times—stop coming here!" she snapped, looking humiliated.

Dunn just grinned. "It's just a drink, Nicole. You're overreacting, aren't you?"

Nicole was rocking a red nightgown—pretty conservative, probably because she knew Dunn was coming. Still, it couldn't hide her stunning vibe. That snowy skin practically glowed, making your heart skip a beat. She poured him a glass of red wine, then stood there, arms crossed and fuming. "Hurry up, drink it, and get out! Go to Sophia's or Katherine's—I don't care, just not here."

Dunn paused, then chuckled. "Oh, Nicole, you've been keeping tabs on me, huh? You even know my every move!"

Katherine's full name is Katherine Heigl—a 19-year-old stunner playing the female co-star, Nicole's snarky cousin and biggest rival in the movie. She's gorgeous, a semi-known actress who models on the side. Sweet voice, killer body—total package. So, George Paxton, the assistant, put her, Nicole, and Sophia Coppola all in rooms near Dunn's. Everyone in the crew knew what was up, but no one said it out loud. The official excuse? Nicole and Katherine are key players, so it's "convenient" for Dunn to guide them. And Sophia? She's a big deal, so a nice room makes sense.

Dunn wasn't about to turn down George's "kindness." First day at the hotel, he crashed in Katherine's room. She's young, hot, and used to the modeling scene's wild side—no hints needed. She just plopped right into his lap like it was nothing.

But Dunn's real focus? Nicole and Sophia. Nicole's a goddess, no explanation needed. Sophia, though—she's 26, in her prime, fair-skinned, gorgeous, with a killer figure. She struts the runway like a boss, all fierce and commanding. Give it a few years, though, when she's directing and letting herself go—roughing it, no self-care, body out of shape—it'll be a sad "time's a butcher" story.

Nicole smirked, dripping with sarcasm. "Thick-skinned, huh? If you're so great, why don't you go charm Sophia instead of bugging me?"

"Sophia?" Dunn sipped his wine. "I wanna be friends with her. And with friends, you don't just jump into bed right away, right? Gotta ease into it."

"Yeah, like you'd dare do anything to her!" Nicole rolled her eyes, scoffing.

Dunn shook his head, locking eyes with her, his voice low and intense. "Nicole, let me be clear—when I set my sights on a woman, she's not getting away."

"No chance!" Nicole shot back, shutting it down.

Dunn smirked coldly. "This is Hollywood. 'Impossible' isn't a thing here."

Nicole gave him a mocking side-eye, which got under his skin. "Nicole, I'm pretty sure your marriage to Tom Cruise isn't all about love, is it?"

That set her off. "My marriage isn't your business to judge!" she snapped, furious.

Dunn stayed cool. "Too bad, whether it's judgment or praise, 'Mrs. Cruise' is just a shiny title. Looks good on the outside, but it's useless—won't sell tickets or win Oscars!"

Nicole huffed. "Big talk—like you could pull that off."

Dunn grinned. "Think I'm bluffing? *Titanic* is locked for at least 1.8 billion at the box office—am I bluffing there? I know what I'm capable of. If I couldn't bring you insane benefits, you think I'd have the guts to keep showing up here?"

Nicole hated this transactional vibe and raised an annoyed brow. "Then prove it first!"

"Deal!" Dunn barked, standing up before she could back out. "It's settled!"

Nicole froze, realizing he'd just tricked her. But… was he serious? Could he really get her to the Oscars? That's the Oscars—the stage even Tom Cruise dreams of! The thought of that golden glow kept her quiet instead of firing back.

Dunn took a big gulp of wine and laughed. "Don't forget tonight's promise, Nicole!" He headed for the door, but when he glanced back, she was still standing there, dazed, biting her lip, her eyes a mix of shame and anger.

"To prove I'm legit, I'm staying at Sophia's tonight—no leaving. Keep an eye out!" He winked at her and strutted off.

---

"Sophia, mind if I crash at your place tonight?"

"No way! Didn't you say we're gonna be good friends? I don't sleep with my buddies!"

"No, no, Sophia, you got it wrong—I just mean stay here. Couch works fine."

"Huh?" Sophia blinked, then burst out laughing, bright as sunshine.

Next day, when Dunn saw Nicole again, her usual edge was gone. She kept dodging his gaze. On set, she didn't argue once when he nitpicked—just took it like a little lamb. The crew couldn't help but stare at Dunn with a mix of shock and respect. The Cruises were famously tough on set—everyone knew that—but Nicole? Acting like a rookie now. That's some serious skill!

The morning shoot was the leads' parents meeting before the wedding—a clash of cultures, nonstop laughs. Everything was going great until around 10 a.m., when the props team burst in, all flustered, making a ruckus and throwing off the vibe.

Dunn was livid. "What's going on? Earthquake? Fire?"

"Uh, yeah—fire!"

"What?!"

Everyone freaked out and rushed to the window. Sure enough, a gas can was rolling on the lawn outside, spewing thick black smoke—scary stuff! Dozens of crew members were scrambling to put it out.

Dunn's face darkened. "What happened?"

"Not sure," a props guy stammered. "Just now, a bunch of punk kids on motorcycles roared up, tossed the gas can, and took off."

The room went silent, jaws dropping. What the hell?

"Dunn, did you piss someone off?" Nicole asked. She was the only one big enough to speak up while everyone else stayed quiet.

"Piss someone off?" Dunn's mind flashed to Jon Landau, but he dismissed it—too blatant for a guy like that. So who was it?

The crew had only been in Chicago ten days—no enemies here. The city even loved the shoot; the "Chicago Tourism and Development Foundation" had chipped in $800,000 just to thank them for filming there.

"Call the cops!" Dunn growled, his face hard and furious.
