"No it was definitely Dobby."
"Definitely?"
"Definitely."
"But he wasn't even there."
Hazel first looked at her brother and then at Ron and Hermione.
"Do they not teach anything? I mean you have a crap defense against the dark arts class, you don't really understand enchantments, how is potions really? Professor Snape is even known in Tan Dimension for his potions mastery." Marcel looked up with a dazzled expression at the mention of Professor Snape.
"We found an interesting one called Polly Juice."
Evervine and Marcel looked to Hazel at the same time.
"The Diversi Sucus potion"
"Oh. Okay. That is a good potion. Versatile."
"Calm down Marcel. Why do you get so giddy about potions."
Marcel frowned. "Why do you need to tease me all the time?"
"I don't know. Teasing may be my love language." Marcel smiled at the thought of that while Hazel and Hermione raised eyebrows.
Hazel turned back to Harry. "I guess we should do a divination. I sense he does not have bad intentions. Maybe he just thinks of things in a distorted way or something."
Harry nodded. "And what do we do about Michael."
Hazel shook her head as both Evervine and Marcel looked up at her. "I have divined that one so many times my divination ability has ranked up entirely too much. It is always the same." She just looked down.
"Is it because of her?"
"Yes. It has something to do with the tie she has formed with him. Somehow it is akin to a curse and if you do not successfully break free of it, in a given amount of time, you become her property and begin to whither away.
"Michael is a powerful wizard and he is motivated so he has continued to survive until now."
Marcel looked down and Evervine put a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"So the little guy with the camera has been petrified as well?"
"Yes."
"hmm" She looked to Evervine. "Evvy. This little guy Colin is always looking through a lens. Could that be relevant in our serpent hunt?"
"Maybe." Evervine looked to Hermione. "Does En have basilisks?"
"I don't know I will have to check."
"We need to check Hogwarts history as well. When I am there for Christmas break I will hit the library."
Ron looked up at Hazel. "Are you the one who bought those new beater bats for Fred and George?"
Her eyes went wide. "um? Uh. Yes. Well. I mean."
Evervine began laughing. "You are so good to buy for them both."
Hazel frowned and shrugged. "It would've been rude any other way."
"Of course it would have."
Hermione stifled giggles as Harry and Ron both frowned, but for different reasons.
"So. Um. What are you going to do about this competition? When is it?"
"I am going to win. It is tomorrow and it is a three day thing. I am getting extra credit for divination class."
"And Rosa?" Hazel just shrugged. To Evervine's question.
"So seven events and two even deal with fate?"
"No. Three deal with fate. I am ready for it. They are going to suppress discernment but it is hard to render innate abilities null."
"This is true." Evervine nodded. "And what are the events?"
"Divination: I have to divine a single being.
"Seeing: I will engage in conversation with one of my competitors chosen by the competition and complete a seeing while stopping the person from reading me.
"Dreamwalking: This is one of the surprise events and was not explained.
"Dreamscape development: This one will be interesting. I have to develop a brand new dreamscape and allow a designated group to watch. The interesting part is I already have a dreamscape and you usually only have one. I may have to forfeit this one.
"Fate line strum: I will have to strum a designated fate line. They think that I am the new fatetress so they will make this one hard.
"The last two are also surprise events and were not explained: Fate Acquisition and Fate Change."
"I do not like the sound of the three surprise ones and they are probably going to make them all hard on you."
"I agree with Evervine. And what about Michael's warning?"
"I already divined dangers in the competition, but I was very general because divining your own Fate can be so very dangerous. I got that a judge is a danger and all of the events will be dangerous. I think it was too general. All of the events will be dangerous for me because they will be set high and may even be a bit unusual."
Everyone was nodding in agreement as she spoke.
"The dangerous judge is a person I have never met before. I know her face now and I can tell that she is related to Rosa. I feel it is her mother. They did not want to announce the judges at the meeting. I think they had not been chosen yet. They have to have fifteen: two each from the six families and then three from outer families and the unaffiliated seers."
"Her mother?!" Harry shrugged when his sister looked to him. "I trust your discernment. If you sense she is Rosa's mother than she is."
She nodded to this. "I just wish I could protect Michael."
"Can you just tell me how you saw him die." Marcel sounded a bit desperate. Hazel looked at him for a long moment then sighed.
"Writhing in pain in his mother's arms. It was pretty horrible." Her eyes welled up with tears and Harry's arm was around her shoulders and pulling her into him before she had a chance to think.
The day of the Star competition was a bit stressful. Both of her parents were extremely worried but they had already given their consent. Professor Sing was not chosen as a judge so she would taken on the job as Hazel's coach and supporter and help her if she has issues and make sure she remained mentally stable throughout the competition.
There were thirty-three competitors: eighteen from the six main families and fifteen from the outer families and unaffiliated seers.
For Divination she was number twenty-five. The divinations before her seemed rather easy and straightforward so she was confident. Then the competition paused, when it was her turn, to set the stage up. She frowned but she was not nervous. She did not feel anything beyond her abilities would be presented.
A large enchanted tent was placed on the competition platform and a runic circle was created around it. The tent was black in color and once everything was set up the side of the tent facing the audience became transparent but cloudy at the same time. You could see the inside perfectly but you could also see the dense protection incantations.
Shyla appeared on her shoulder and Hazel looked at her knowingly. "A divine being?"
Shyla smiled. "Yes. Someone is underestimating you but they definitely want to hurt you with this" Hazel nodded. Professor Sing asked what Shyla had said and Hazel explained the conversation. She and Hazel's parents went pale.
"Don't worry I will be fine."
She was called up to the stage and she moved there quickly and entered the tent without hesitation. Shyla was a divine being and, as odd as it sounded, two divine beings could not be confined or restrained together. It would cause a dangerous feedback within the magic.
Hazel sat at a large table and waited.
'You have been touched by my sister. I hope after this we can be friends. I am Laramar. How is my sister Amaria?'
The voice ran through Hazel's body like cool water. She sat still for a moment to process and then answered.
"Of course we can be friends Lord Laramar. Your sister is using the name Shyla now and she is well. She is waiting for me outside due to the confinement magic in place here." She felt Laramar express understanding. "Shall we begin my Lord?" She felt an affirmative answer and she began.
For the divination of a divine being you did not want to see much and all of her tools were too powerful and highly attuned. So she decided to just read his mind directly.
Laramar's being filled the tent and affected everything within it so she used the table as her focus and began walking his mind.
Hazel breathed in deeply and pushed her consciousness to a tiny far corner in the back of her mind. She quickly and easily made a bridge connecting their beings and Hazel quickly crossed into Laramar's consciousness. As she knew it would be, it was very overwhelming and she had to brace herself and dig her consciousness deeper into her being.
Laramar's consciousness opened up to her and she stepped into his actual conscious thought. And Hazel had to immediately use her focus. Everything was too wondrous and she could easily be lost within Laramar's mind.
Minerva McGonagall tensed "Is she okay? Why is her hand so tense all of sudden?"
Professor Sing leaned in so both Minerva and Montague could hear. "She is using the table as a focus. This being's mind is probably vast and she needs to maintain her personal identity while giving her whole self to the process." They didn't truly understand but they decided to ask later and not be distracted. As long as Hazel was okay.
Hazel walked through vast halls and was instantly transported to answers. The being was to vast for simple questions or simple answers and as Hazel found what he was looking for she just showed it to him without trying to explain it.
After three of these she sensed that was enough to answer all for him. She pulled herself back and then released her consciousness from its confinement. She opened her eyes, stood, and bowed to the entity.
'You did very well. I have not been divined in centuries and what you showed me makes sense and will help me in the centuries to come. If I need more help in the future I hope that I can come to you again.'
"Of course you can my lord" She bowed again.
'Take this as an expression of my gratitude.'
A large purple crystal eye floated towards her. Hazel's eyes went wide and she looked around as if she did not know what to do.
'Take it little one. You deserve it and more.' With Shyla's approval she allowed the focus to drop into her hand. She felt Laramar leave but she also sensed that he had left something with her. She left the tent and everything was quiet. Everyone saw that Laramar had given her something but they could not understand what it was.
As soon as she got back to her parents and Professor Sing they all looked at her questioningly. She shrugged. "It is a new focus." She looked at Professor Sing "A fate eye."
She heard Shyla's laughter. 'Tell them the truth. It is THE fate eye.'
Hazel ignored her and took her seat between her parents.
