"Restore Sight!"
Di Zhen chanted the spell. Uncle Xu was stunned, and suddenly a person appeared in front of him.
Di Zhen grabbed Uncle Xu's shoulders. "Give me the antidote. Someone drank that!"
"Wh... What!?" Uncle Xu was completely bewildered, having no idea what was going on.
There was no time to explain now. Di Zhen took out the syringe from Uncle Xu's pocket and ran off in one direction, shouldering his way through the crowd like a bull in a china shop.
Gong Jingfan, who was patrolling on the pedestrian street, was attracted by this large and reckless figure. He exclaimed in surprise, "Hey, it's that guy!"
"Which one?" Wang Bing, with a milk tea straw in his mouth, asked puzzledly.
"The guy who knocked me out last time!" Gong Jingfan recognized the figure and immediately chased after him.
Di Zhen searched rapidly through the crowd. Finally, he saw an uncle carrying a briefcase holding a cup of milk tea with some maggots floating in it.
Feeling someone approaching from behind, the uncle turned around in surprise. Without a word, Di Zhen took out the syringe and gave him a shot.
"Ah!!!"
The uncle felt a sharp pain in his arm, and then his whole body went numb. He covered his arm and shouted, "Who are you! Policemen, come and save me!"
Di Zhen turned his head and saw two policemen running over. One of them was Gong Qin, the stupid older brother of Lao Gong.
He sighed. He was definitely going to be misunderstood again this time.
He quickly threw the remaining syringe on the ground and stamped it to pieces. Just then, Gong Jingfan caught up, pushed Di Zhen against a nearby car, and handcuffed him from behind. He said coldly, "Hey, you rascal! Fancy meeting you here. What's this new shady business?"
"Lao Gong, he smashed the poisoned needle!" Wang Bing stared at the fragments on the ground.
"Being uncooperative. Come with me! Wang Bing, take that uncle for a check - up."
"What for? Didn't you say it wasn't poisonous..." Wang Bing looked helpless.
"What!? Syphilis!?" The uncle who was pricked was shocked. "Take me to the hospital for a shot right away!"
Thanks to the two policemen being separated for the moment and the dense crowd on the pedestrian street, Gong Jingfan didn't have the time to search Di Zhen's pockets.
Uncle Xu stood on the roadside, looking at this scene in complete bewilderment. He had no clue at all. How did this young guy who came to him with a catfish this afternoon know about his assassination plan and help him give the shot?
Di Zhen shook his head slightly at Uncle Xu, signaling him not to be seen by the policemen. Uncle Xu understood and quickly hid in a shop.
Lao Gong led Di Zhen to the police car, pushed him inside, and then took the driver's seat himself. "Who would've thought we'd meet again. You ain't getting away this time!"
"Why would I run? A person with integrity has nothing to fear!" Di Zhen retorted.
"A decent person would use needles to prick people on the street? Where's your accomplice?"
"What accomplice? I don't have one."
"Fine, being stubborn. I'll deal with you back at the police station." With that, Lao Gong started the car.
While Lao Gong was driving, Di Zhen slowly took out the sealed jar from his pocket with his hands behind his back. He didn't plan to tell the policemen the truth. Uncle Xu hadn't carried out his criminal plan yet. But if the policemen found out the truth, Uncle Xu would surely end up in jail.
In Di Zhen's view, that wasn't solving the problem; it was just following the rules.
No one knows better than him what kind of life the family members of criminals have to endure. He didn't want kind and gentle Auntie Liu to end up in such a situation!
The problem was what to do with this sealed jar. Lao Gong was the only person he couldn't use implanting a symbol on. Throwing it in the car wasn't a good idea either. They'd definitely search him at the police station.
After much thought, he gently flicked the jar with his finger, let it roll, then caught it with his foot and kicked it under the seat.
After that, Di Zhen was taken to the police station. After registration, he was brought into the interrogation room. Lao Gong called another policeman and they interrogated him together. Lao Gong slapped the table and said, "Confess honestly. Why did you do that?"
Di Zhen looked indifferent. "I'm not going to say anything."
"Still being stubborn here. Do you know how serious your crime is!?"
"Of course I do. It's harming others, but it's only a minor injury. Five days of detention and a fine of 200 to 500 yuan!"
"Five days of detention!?" Lao Gong said angrily. "Don't think you can slide by just 'cause you've memorized a few laws. What did you use to prick people?"
The other policeman took on the role of the good cop. "Kid, you're so young and new to the city. Don't ruin your future! It won't do you any good to go against the police. We've been keeping an eye on this case for a long time. Do you really think we can't figure it out? We're giving you a chance to confess voluntarily now!"
Di Zhen, who could read people's expressions, gave a faint smile. He knew they knew nothing. He said, "Why are you interrogating me?"
"Why are we interrogating you? Don't you know yourself?" Lao Gong glared at him.
"The purpose of interrogating me is to dig out more clues to convict me. Everyone has a self - preservation instinct. A suspect doesn't confess because of self - preservation, and they confess also because of self - preservation. This room, these handcuffs, this atmosphere, and you guys shouting and yelling are all creating a tense and threatening feeling, making the suspect scared!
"Once a suspect gets scared, out of self - preservation, they'll offer information in exchange for safety. In this sense, interrogation is just a mental torture. But if I want to, I can act like I can't see or hear you!"
"Behave yourself. If we find out the truth, your punishment will only get worse." Lao Gong threatened.
"Go ahead and find out. I hope you're smart enough!"
After saying this provocative sentence, Di Zhen simply closed his eyes and summoned the old mansion.
You could still hear Gong Jingfan's shouting even outside the window. Di Zhen closed the window, and the noise vanished instantly.
He calmly sat down on the chair in the room, opened a book, and started to read. He reached his hand out to the table, and a bottle of iced cola appeared in his hand. He took a big sip, savoring it.
He read leisurely until he felt someone shaking his body. Only then did he utter the words "Dao Heart Clarification" and return to the real world. It turned out that the policemen were taking him to the detention room, and the clock on the wall pointed to ten o'clock.
Behind the table, Gong Jingfan was gasping for breath, sweating profusely. He had actually been shouting from eight to ten. Di Zhen even felt a bit of pity for this policeman.
Not long after Di Zhen entered the detention room, Gong Jingfan came in angrily, pointing a warning finger at him. "Kid, you're playing tricks on me! I'll make you pay for this!"
"All you can do is threaten me verbally. Can't even lay a finger on me. What a pity for you!" Di Zhen grinned.
"Damn it!"
Gong Jingfan's temper flared up. He rushed over and started kicking the bars of the cell. The policemen nearby quickly pulled him back and persuaded him to leave.
"Bro, you're something!" A detainee in the next cell gave him a thumbs up. "This Chief Gong is always so ruthless. Everyone on the streets is afraid of him. You actually dared to go against him!"
Di Zhen glanced at the burly man with a fleshy face and the tattoos on his arms. He knew he wasn't a good guy and just said, "Get lost!"
Di Zhen sat down on the iron bed in the detention room. Being able to create illusions freely, he wouldn't have a problem staying here for a month. But the problem was that the sealed jar with the poisonous maggots was still in the police car. He had to get rid of it.
The policemen wouldn't take the police car home at night, so he had to dispose of it before tomorrow morning.
So, how long would he be sentenced for escaping from detention and smashing a police car?
Di Zhen's mind returned to the old mansion. There were several books on the shelf. Although he had devoured Di Gong's book collection when he was a child, the legal ones were just too boring. So he used the "camera" to take pictures of them and made them into books on the shelf.
He opened a legal book and checked...
Well, if he did it all, it would just be half a month's detention plus some fines!
He'd take the blame for it!
