Chapter 273 - A Mother's Visit

Brianna went back to her room, where she spent the rest of the day, angry and locked in, and ignoring her grandfather's pleas to come in. How could she leave her homeland and live so far away? Her grandfather was going mad. Perhaps she should tell him that she'd had the vision he'd been waiting for... But now it would be too late. He wouldn't believe her. He'd think she was just trying to circumvent his will. Brianna cried herself to sleep. When night came, she had the dream that would change her life forever.

Brianna felt someone sit on the edge of her bed. She kept her eyes closed. She didn't want to see anyone yet, and besides, she was very sleepy. Her eyes felt heavy. She felt a touch on her leg, and sat up startled, remembering that there was no way anyone could get in there, as she had locked the room from the inside, and came across her mother, the same age as when she saw her in the coffin, but now with her green eyes open. Behind her, she could see a figure, as if it were the shadow of a man.

"Mom?" Brianna managed to ask after a while.

 She just nodded yes.

"What... How did you get in here?" Brianna was so surprised that she couldn't even think straight.

"Daughter... My sweet Brianna... I've been following your journey, and I'm sorry that you've had to go through everything, that you will."

 "What do you mean?"

"First, I mean that you have to go with the boy who chose you as his wife to the United States."

"But... You yourself told me not to follow the path that my grandfather would take for me... And you know what? It was good advice. I don't want, and won't let, history repeat itself."

"But... The blue-eyed man who fills your mind and your dreams is the love of your life, Brianna. And you can only meet him if you agree to travel with the boy your grandfather has chosen for you."

"What's the point of finding the love of my life if I'm married to another man?"

"That boy is not a man. Dester is a werewolf, my child. Your grandfather chose him because he believes that his bloodline will become even more powerful with the mixing of the species."

Brianna put both hands to her face.

"This must just be a dream. What are werewolves?" Brianna looked at Kellen again. "A different kind of witch?"

"No, my child. A different kind of animal."

Brianna felt a cold shiver run through her body.

"My grandfather wants me to marry a... Animal?"

Kellen looked at the locked door, and Brianna knew she just didn't want to look her in the eye when she said those words.

"Your offspring, Brianna, will be the first hybrid creatures in history. Through you, creatures that we never imagined would proliferate will emerge. Therefore, whether you refuse or accept, you will not be able to escape your destiny. If you refuse, your grandfather will make the boy take you right here. And believe me, the boy is willing to do anything to get you."

"And if I accept, I'll lose the chance to live with the man of my dreams." Brianna said sadly.

"No, Brianna. You'll meet him before you get married. And you'll know what to do if you still want him as your husband."

"I don't understand. Away from here, I'll be in that boy's hands. Vulnerable and unprotected. I have no money and I know my grandfather won't send me anything before the wedding. He didn't even want to give me the inheritance you left me..."

"The inheritance you inherited, and my father's inheritance, will be passed on to your daughter, but... In the room that used to be mine, there's a safe. The password is your birthday. In addition to my inheritance, which I inherited from my grandmother, there is also the money that your grandfather has been depositing there every month.

"How do you know that?" Brianna asked suspiciously.

"Like I said, I've been watching."

"I don't know where your room was... We moved, and I don't even remember where I came from, really."

"Ask your grandfather to visit the place where you came from. Tell him you dreamt you had to go there before your wedding. He'll be happy with your interest and your acceptance."

"What if this guy is like my father? The one who abandoned you as soon as he found out your illness couldn't be cured, because Dad stopped you from taking medication for the sake of a grandchild? I don't want to marry a man like that."

"This man will love you, just as your father loved me. But unlike your father, his love will extend to the child that will be born from his womb. And he..." Kellen suddenly stopped talking.

 "And he..."

"I can't reveal too much to you, Brianna. You'd suffer beforehand. That's not necessary. I want to know something... Did you dream of a young woman with silver hair and eyes the color of fire?"

"Can you see my dreams, too?"

 Kellen smiled

"No, my child. She appears to all the Brumes. Are you ready to be the Bruma?"

 "I... I don't know..."

"You need to be prepared. A woman will need you soon. Read the book your father sent you. It's important that you take it with you, as well as the grimoire. And as soon as you wake up, write down everything that is said here on the blank pages, because the child that will be born to you will not know this family."

Brianna stared at her in doubt.

"Grandpa would never allow that. All he wants is to see his grandchildren, and manipulate each one of them... Is that a dream?"

"No. But you'll end up concluding that it is. That's good. You mustn't pass on our inheritance to the child you're going to give birth to. She'll have visions, but her destiny is very different from ours. She won't be able to marry the love of her vision, because she'll know him before she has the vision. When she has the vision, she will believe that she is only dreaming, or thinking, about her love. Now, as for Dad... He'll disown you as soon as he finds out you're not going to marry the suitor he's arranged for you."
