Adam exchanged a suspicious glance with Anna, and then looked at Ian, annoyed.
"You shouldn't have done that to her."
"Why not? She was a better target than the cans."
"When you're older, you won't want people throwing their cunts at you either."
"I won't mind, if the person has a reason."
"Why did you shoot Bonnie?"
"She was hurting Mom. I don't like her! If she comes back here, I'll ask Grandpa to take me away. I won't wait that many days!" He said and let go of Anna's hand, and ran off.
Anna tried to chase after him, but Adam stopped her with one hand, and with the other took out his cell phone, asked Judith to send someone to look after Ian, and stayed on his cell phone staring at Anna, annoyed as he listened. Then he hung up without saying anything, and turned to Anna.
"Have you gone mad? I didn't think you'd be so jealous." He said, clearly annoyed.
"It wasn't jealousy. I would never act like that because I was jealous."
"Then what was it?" Adam asked defiantly and crossed his arms.
"She threatened to cut off Ian's fingers if I didn't do what she wanted."
Anna saw the anger shining in Adam's eyes.
"And what did she want you to do?"
Anna felt her face burn.
"She wanted me... That I wouldn't try to convince you to do without her, to live with her, that I wouldn't interfere... But that didn't bother me. It was only when she dared to threaten my son that I was blinded by anger. I won't allow my son to be forced to live under the same roof with someone who could harm him at any moment. No matter what you say. If she sets foot here, I will kill her."
Adam's lips closed in a thin line of fury, and he lowered his head, then looked at Anna without knowing what to say.
"I need to see if Ian is all right. I don't want him near that pool without an adult watching."
"Are you stupid?" Adam said impatiently. "Ian's a werewolf. It's easier for you to drown drinking a glass of water than for him to drown in the pool. And what kind of education did you give him? He can say things that are unbecoming of a child, but he can't swim?"
Anna hadn't expected such an outburst of resentment, but she didn't back down.
"He must have learned adult words from his werewolves. Living with that damned species! He can swim, yes, Adam, but he's not going to be your experiment. Ian won't go in the pool without adult supervision!" Anna said and tried to push past Adam, but he held her arm, with unnecessary force, but she refused to show weakness.
"He went to his room with one of the staff and invited her to play video games with him. I'm going to talk to him, but first you're going to do the ritual you promised me."
Anna looked at him suspiciously.
"You haven't told me your decision."
"What decision?"
"Bonnie."
"If she survives, she'll never set foot in this house again. But I'll keep visiting her until you've made your decision."
Anna looked at him relieved.
"So... I thought this ritual had to be done at night, under the light of the full moon and..."
"You're too childish, Anna. I look at you and your attitudes and I feel like I'm living with a teenager. A mother of four, and you still don't know how to act like a grown woman?"
Anna squeezed her eyes shut.
"I know you prefer older women, Adam. Why don't you look for one in a nursing home, to be the object of your attentions? I'll never be enough for you, and I won't strive to be who you want, because I don't want to be with you!"
Adam eased his expression and closed his eyes for a while, and Anna knew he didn't want her to see his yellow eyes as he summoned his werewolves. When he opened his eyes again, he looked at her with amusement.
"You're going to be a very bitter old woman if you don't have a werewolf near you, Anna. I've yet to meet an older woman who's as prickly as you are now, young man. These personalities tend to become more evident as we get older."
Anna reached out to slap Adam, but he held her effortlessly and then let her go.
"Let's go to the green house."
"I'm not going. You'll want to lock me up again. Bring your cousin here."
"Don't be a problem, Anna. Stop testing my patience."
Anna crossed her arms determinedly.
"Pick her up like a sack of potatoes, Goles. I don't have time for this."
Anna uncrossed her arms in puzzlement, until she felt herself being lifted into the air, and thrown onto the shoulders of a werewolf, who immediately started for the garage, where he threw her carelessly into the jeep, and then looked at her seriously.
"Am I going to have to tie you up?"
Anna hated Adam.
"No."
Goles left and Adam sat down next to him and started the car.
Anna didn't like the memories she had of that place. She was forgotten in that house, while the man she hated today, but who at the time was the love of her life, was being buried.
It was hard to ignore the huge wolves surrounding the house and the werewolves with their long, sharp tongues, scratching at each other, as soon as Adam entered the gate of the green house. She looked inquiringly at him, following him closely, but he ignored her and entered the house.
The black werewolf with yellow eyes gritted his teeth as soon as he looked at her, and Anna knew it was some kind of smile.
"Ryan, she's here to free our people. Please behave like a decent man." Adam said, but his tone was impatient. He turned to Anna. "You must kneel, Anna."
"Here?"
Adam rolled his eyes.
"It could be floating, or on the table, or..."
"I get it!" Anna interrupted him and knelt down. She looked debauchedly at Adam. "Should I put my hands together like I'm saying a prayer, too?"
