Chapter 39 - Calculating the Neccesities

The first thing Levin did after the announcement was over was check the list of things he could exchange with points here. After all, the game would last for about a month, and there was no way they all could live without thinking of their well-being.

"Okay, first thing first, we need spare clothes. A lot. There is no way I would spend the rest of the month with just my military uniform." He declared firmly.

Chen Ze nodded a little, taking a note about it. "Indeed, even though sometimes, I forget about taking a bath, there is no way I will feel uncomfortable without changing my clothes or even my underwear for a long time."

For that, Levin just stared at the scientist in disgust.

"What?" Chen Ze asked innocently.

"Please…" Levin struggled to find the best words to describe the disgusting man in front of him. "In the future, avoid talking about this topic whenever Mira is around. You will be a bad influence for her."

After checking for clothes, they turned their attention to the next essential thing for survival situation, camp equipment. After all, even though right now, they had a roof to sleep under, they didn't know if it would always be like this in the future. Who knew, maybe, some crazy players would come here and attack them all fiercely, turning the entire abandoned town into a battlefield just to get their head. For that kind of case, they needed to be ready with their camping equipment so that they wouldn't get caught off guard when they had to sleep outside.

They also checked the price of water there, knowing full well that while they might not have trouble with their food supply, water was a different story here. They didn't just need it to satisfy their thirst, but also for a lot of things like to clean themselves and keeping everything hygienic. However, to their surprise, the price of the water exceeded their expectation here.

"Fuck! A gallon of water is 100 points?! This is a fucking robbery! Even a bowl of plain rice is just 5 points!" Chen Ze cursed, still in disbelief.

"Well, you cannot help it." Levin sighed helplessly. "It seems this is the way the crow man telling us that water will be scarce from now on. Since our stock could still last for about two weeks or so, we won't need it for now, but in the future, we have to be wise using this resource, okay?"

Right after that, the medical kit came pretty naturally. The price itself wasn't as high as water, only 50 points per box. However, Levin believed that it would be useful even against the strangest and nastiest power outside here.

As he and Chen Ze were talking with each other, though, Levin suddenly heard someone yawn inside his head. "Aah… As expected of you, Mister Soldier. You always think about something boring like this. Don't think too much about all the useless things you want to buy! It would only lower your chance in this game! Just save your point for the later stage and go outside and kill everybody else!"

Of course, Levin just rolled his eyes in exasperation. At this point, he had already gotten used to the idea of someone constantly talking inside his head, and sometimes, he even indulged the voice with various interesting topics to talk about. However, the voice was indeed right. He thought about the survival thing too much and somehow ignored that this would be another battlefield. If people who saw this didn't know anything better, they would think that Levin was about to go for a picnic or camping.

'I cannot help it, though. To have a better performance on the battlefield, I need to always be in my prime. For that, these things are essential for my mental health.' He thought inwardly. Unfortunately, he forgot that there was someone who could hear his thoughts and that someone just rolled his eyes exasperatedly before saying, "Your mental health? You are a soldier, a killer. Why would you care about something trivial like that? You are just as degenerate as me, you know?"

Levin paused for a moment, too speechless to respond to that remark. Indeed, a lot of killers outside there didn't care about their mental health, and that was probably the main reason why they became killers. However, not to be a hypocrite, but he was a soldier, not just a beast who did that for fun. He cared about peace of mind too, so of course, he would care about something that the illusionist said was a trivial thing.

However, after pondering for a moment, in the end, he just shook his head, deciding to not indulge himself in a conversation with the psychopath.

"Okay, so, for the daily necessities for about a month, we need about 220 points huh? That is far above the point the crow man put to the mammoth's trunk!" After calculating about their need for a while, Chen Ze shook his head in disbelief. "It seems the crow man really wants to encourage us to kill each other. After all, once everyone realizes that their needs couldn't be covered up with the price of the drop items from the animals, they would turn their eyes on the other players, right?"

Hearing that, Levin furrowed his brows deeply, knowing that the scientist was right. However, he still felt that things must not be that simple here. If his guess was right, this wouldn't just be a fight between all the players in this battle royale game, but would also include the animals who were in a rage state and had a magical ability to resist the enemies. This would make the entire battlefield more chaotic in the future.

"Oh, well, just sitting and thinking about it all day without doing anything would only make me anxious." Levin sighed, getting up from the seat.

Chen Ze raised one of his eyebrows slightly before asking, "Where are you going?"

"Just scouting outside." The soldier answered. He checked the sun's position first before adding, "It is still about six hours before the sun goes down, so all the 44 players who haven't qualified yet may still try to find someone to kill. I want to see if there is someone who is easy prey outside there. That would also give us an early advantage tomorrow. What do you think?"
