Chapter 1 - Prologue

Chaos. Before the beginning, there was chaos. So dense and destructive, with no signs of light, consumed by nonexistence.

—But how? How can something emerge from chaos, and with understanding?

Yes, from chaos came the first, the first with understanding, the first with form, the first to exist, and thus, nothingness was no more.

But chaos showed no mercy. Even though I was present in the midst of nothingness, I could not escape its oppression. I was reduced to myself, unable to expand, for the chaotic and overwhelming power dominated. Chaos wounded me as if it wanted to expel me from itself.

I did not give up, and I realized that I could create something. In mere fractions of a second, I was able to bring something forth beyond myself, but chaos devoured it.

I tried—tried in many ways to produce something, something that would keep me company, but chaos effortlessly annihilated everything I created.

But in one moment, I succeeded.

—Let there be light.

And from me, light emerged—the first of all, the firstborn. I could no longer be contained by chaos, and now I was able to propagate existence. I separated the light that came from me from the darkness that came from chaos. I would control chaos, control it so that my creations would prevail and my creation would be filled with life. I am life, and I will give a part of my life to all.

And chaos—I sealed it in the darkness, but I knew that one day it would break free.

—This is fate, my fate. But I will not let it defeat me.

—Do not stop attacking! Do not let them advance!

Water, wind, and light magic erupted at the shouts of a fifty-year-old man, blonde, yelling to his garrison from atop the city walls.

He looked at all those soldiers, their black hair whipping in the wind, as they cast fire and earth magic. Beyond the ranks of soldiers marching up the plains toward the city, twelve individuals sat on majestic chairs, carried on the shoulders of forty-eight soldiers.

The king was inside the city's temple, and before the statue of his god, they pleaded—the king, the nobility, and the priests.

The high priest prayed:

—Oh, great Eassed, creator of all worlds. We are here because they intend to destroy your people. The servants of Dev-rah seek to insult us, to turn us into slaves.

The time of peace is gone. Since they obtained the dreadful powers of Dev-rah, they have begun a campaign to exterminate your people—the people who worship you, the people chosen by you to praise your name. I ask you, intervene on our behalf. Let those who knock at our gates to expel us perish. We know that you can save us. That is why I cry out—save us, oh god Eassed!

In the midst of the prayer, a divine prophetess stood and delivered to all the message she had received from Eassed.

—This day was inevitable. I am aware of your affliction and that your enemies are on the verge of overthrowing this kingdom. But do not fear. I will send you a savior who will exterminate the servants of Dev-rah.

Until the day of his birth, you will be scattered to the four corners of Epiria and will live as nomads. But I will preserve a remnant, who will live hidden from Dev-rah, until I gather them again to fight against those who oppress you—alongside your savior. And on that day, you will triumph over your enemies and will once again dwell in your city, as in the days of peace that once existed in Epiria. Thus speaks the oracle of Eassed.

Thus, Nibira was destroyed, and its people fled. Some were enslaved, others became nomads—until this very day.
