Following Matt into the police station, we walked through the hallways until we reached a secured room. Inside, the Drakers were already waiting. Mark stood in the center, flanked by his children, Alicia and Jack. Behind them sat a worn-out sofa, while to the sides stood two others—Gary on the left, Jane on the right.
Matt quietly closed the door behind me and remained outside as a guard.
I stepped inside with confident strides, making my way directly to the sofa and sitting down without hesitation. Once I was settled, I looked straight at Mark.
"So, how's the city?" I asked, voice calm but direct.
Mark let out a tired sigh.
"It's nearly destroyed, especially the outskirts," he began. "Right now, this station serves as our base of operations. The surrounding area has many survivors, so we've gathered them here for safety. Before the apocalypse, the city's population was around 80 million..."
He paused.
"But after conducting a survey and census yesterday, we estimate only 15 million remain. That's it. And while we've secured the area to prevent more civilian deaths, even with the police and army still active, it's only a matter of time before we're overwhelmed."
He turned and gestured at the two standing nearby.
"Now, let me introduce these two. On your right is Chief of Police Jane James, and on your left is General Garry Marshall."
I nodded, shifting my gaze to each of them.
"Nice to meet you both," I said.
Jane gave a small smile. "Likewise. And thank you for dealing with those prisoners and that gang. You've saved many lives."
Gary grunted in agreement. "Yeah, no kidding. Thanks to you, we're breathing easier today."
I looked at all five of them—Mark, Alicia, Jack, Jane, and Gary. "Five capable people... I should make them stronger first."
I leaned forward slightly.
"Well then, let me ask you both a question."
They both nodded.
"If you're wondering if we'll follow you, the answer's yes," Jane said firmly.
"Since the City Lord trusts you, we will too," Gary added with a resolute nod.
"Hah. That was easier than expected." I thought, leaning back into the couch.
"Must be Mark's influence. Guy's got a solid reputation—and clearly, he's earned it."
Hmm ,I pondered for a moment then ask , Jane how many police officers remain? And mark how many soldiers remains ?
