Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Aftermath – Ashes of the Soul

Silence.

That was all that remained after the final light faded. The battlefield—once an arena forged from trauma and strength—had vanished. In its place was a hollow void, as if the multiverse itself paused to mourn what it had witnessed.

For several minutes, nothing moved. Nothing dared to.

And then—like the first crack of dawn—movement.

A figure emerged from the haze.

Tattered. Bloodied. Breathing heavily.

Zangetsu's fragments shimmered at his side, like falling snow.

It was Ichigo Kurosaki.

Across the Multiverse: Grief and Reverence

Tokyo Ghoul Universe

Touka fell to her knees.

"No... Kaneki..."

Hide stared, not blinking. "He fought for everyone. Even if he lost... he won."

Bleach Universe

Orihime cried openly. "Ichigo... you came back..."

Urahara bowed his head. "But at what cost?"

Isshin clutched his chest. "You protected the world again... just like your mother once did."

Naruto Universe

Naruto whispered, "He carried his pain until the end."

Sasuke looked away. "No victory comes without sacrifice."

Demon Slayer Universe

Nezuko cried silently, her tears glowing. Tanjiro placed a hand on her head. "Sometimes the strongest are the ones with the deepest scars."

Jujutsu Kaisen Universe

Yuuji stood up. "Was that... what being a hero truly means?"

Gojo sighed. "He killed the monster, but also buried a kindred soul."

The World Between Life and Death

The soul of Ken Kaneki hovered in the void—formless, but not gone.

A child appeared before him. White hair. Red eye. The very first version of himself.

"Are we free now?" the child asked.

Kaneki smiled gently. "We always were... we just didn't know it."

Images of his life flickered around him: Anteiku, Touka, Hide, the child that never had a name. The books he loved. The people he couldn't save. The pain he carried.

He turned.

Standing beside him, not far, was Rize.

"You never hated me," she said.

"No," Kaneki said. "You made me who I am."

Rize nodded. "Then go. Rest."

As Kaneki's soul faded into the wind of the infinite, the faintest smile played on his lips.

Back on the Battlefield

Ichigo collapsed to one knee. His breath hitched. His hands trembled.

He felt the weight of Kaneki's soul as it passed on—he felt it choose peace over vengeance.

A soft light touched his shoulder.

Rukia.

"You did what had to be done," she said.

"I didn't want to kill him," Ichigo said, his voice raw. "He just... wouldn't stop."

"You gave him closure," Rukia replied. "You gave him something no one else could."

Ichigo looked up. The feathers that had rained earlier were gone. Instead, tiny white flowers now grew along the broken ground.

A Shrine of Memory

In the days that followed, the multiversal forces—those who managed the tournament from the shadows—erected a monument where the battle had taken place. A pillar that rose through galaxies, forged from ichor and sorrow.

On one side, etched in gold: Ichigo Kurosaki – Protector of Souls

On the other, carved in crimson: Ken Kaneki – Voice of the Broken

The monument wasn't just for warriors. It was for those who bore pain too deep for words. A sanctuary for those lost in themselves.

Pilgrims came from across realms.

Some prayed.

Some wept.

Some simply stood there, feeling understood.

New Revelations

Back in the control room where the tournament was overseen, silhouettes murmured.

"He survived," one voice said.

"And grew stronger for it," said another.

"But now the balance has shifted. Kaneki is gone."

A third voice, deeper, colder: "Then bring the next."

A fourth voice, more amused: "Yes. Let the next one bleed for their truth."

From behind the observation mirror, a new pairing was drawn.

Names flared across screens in red.

"Eren Yeager vs. Lelouch vi Britannia."

Audience Reactions and Aftershocks

My Hero Academia Universe

Midoriya sobbed uncontrollably. "That... that wasn't just a battle. That was... history."

Bakugo gritted his teeth. "They were both monsters. Monsters made from love and pain."

Dragon Ball Universe

Goku nodded solemnly. "They didn't fight for power. They fought to end pain."

Vegeta looked away. "Sometimes, victory feels hollow."

Attack on Titan Universe

Mikasa whispered, "Eren is next... will it be like this again?"

Armin frowned. "It'll be worse."

In Memory – Voices of the Lost

A series of multiversal broadcasts played across galaxies, displaying a brief moment from the battle:

"You're strong. Just like me."

– Ken Kaneki

"You're not alone in your pain."

– Ichigo Kurosaki

The screen faded to black. A soft message glowed:

In honor of the fighters who became more than champions—they became reflections of us all.

A Letter Found

Back in the Tokyo Ghoul universe, Touka discovered a letter—written by Kaneki, left in case he never returned.

To the ones I love,

I never wanted to fight again. I never wanted blood on my hands. But sometimes, we are chosen by pain and forged by it. I only hope I was able to turn that pain into something meaningful.

Don't mourn me. Live. Laugh. Protect each other.

And when you think of me... think of the man who once loved books, coffee, and quiet mornings with the people he cherished.

—Ken

She folded the letter with trembling hands.

"He found peace," she whispered.

Ichigo's Return

Back in Karakura Town, Ichigo walked the empty streets at night.

He passed Urahara's shop, Rukia's balcony, the old clinic.

He paused at his mother's grave.

"I couldn't save him," he said. "But maybe I helped him find his way."

The wind stirred.

Behind him, Orihime approached. She didn't speak. Just placed her hand in his.

And for the first time since the battle...

Ichigo smiled.
