Midorima knew they were being looked down on.

To a seasoned jōnin, two kids who couldn't even pass their graduation exam were nothing but dead weight.

Even with a new Mizukage, the law of the jungle was still etched into these ninjas' blood.

The sensor ninja sneered. "Scared? Kids like you should wait till you've grown some hair before taking on real missions."

"Does the Mizukage know about this?" Midorima sighed dramatically. "Mei, let's go back and report. This 'big brother' thinks we're trash, so he decided to ignore us and only share intel with the captain. Ah, well… We're just too weak. We've embarrassed the Mizukage, made him lose face in front of this 'great man'."

The sensor ninja's eye twitched. "When the hell did I say that?!"

"There are only three of us here. Even if you deny it, do you think the Mizukage will believe you?" Midorima shrugged. "The captain only told us not to blame him—but someone's gotta take the fall. Why not you? If the Mizukage decides you're the problem, do you really think our 'dear' captain will stick his neck out for you? We're all just tools here. Who's really 'higher'?"

Mei, who had been fuming, paused mid-rage, staring at Midorima like he'd grown a second head.

'This… This is so shameless.'

'…I love it.'

Faced with these so-called "seniors" bullying them, Midorima had not only kept his cool but spun the situation around. Mei was seeing him in a whole new light.

"Cute speech. But can you back it up?" The sensor ninja cracked his knuckles. "Remember, you two failed your exams. If I kill you here, who's gonna snitch to the Mizukage?"

Mei's eyebrow twitched. Her fists clenched. "Wanna test that theory?"

She'd been itching to punch this guy. Now? 'No holding back.'

"Bring it on!"

The sensor ninja flung eight explosive-tagged kunai without warning.

Mei barely dodged, retaliating instantly.

She might be young, but she was no ordinary ninja—future Mizukage, wielder of two Kekkei Genkai.

"Fire Release: Great Fireball Jutsu!"

A massive fireball erupted from her mouth. Midorima's back prickled with sweat.

'Did she forget everything I just said?! And this idiot—does he not realize explosives plus fire equals disaster?!'

He formed hand signs. "Water Release: Wild Water Wave!"

Neither technique was advanced, but their power scaled with the user's chakra.

The sensor ninja, initially dismissive, paled as the fireball hurtled toward him—way stronger than any genin's fireball had any right to be.

'Damn brat! Using fire jutsu in a forest?!'

He barely dodged, only for a torrent of water to slam into him.

'Two failures teaming up are still failures!'

'Fine. I'll show you what a real ninja can do!'

Furious, he formed signs for a water jutsu—but Midorima was faster.

"Water Release: Water Dragon Jutsu!"

'What the—?! Since when do genin have this much chakra?!'

Regret flickered in the sensor ninja's eyes. These "failures" were way stronger than he'd expected.

'No matter. Once I report their insubordination, the captain will—'

He turned—and froze.

Mei stood inches away, smiling sweetly.

A second later, the forest echoed with a bloodcurdling scream.

Even Midorima winced in sympathy.

The sensor ninja lay in a puddle, writhing like a worm, hands clamped between his legs.

'That… had to hurt.'

'Hope she didn't kick too hard. If something's broken, even I'd have trouble fixing it. Well, amputation's always an option… if he agrees.'

After tying the whimpering man to a tree, Midorima studied his face—purple, drenched in sweat, features twisted in agony.

No words needed. That expression said it all.

"Does it hurt?" Midorima crouched beside him.

The man nodded frantically, all fight gone.

"How old are you?"

"…E-Eighteen…" he gritted out.

"If you can't 'stand up' anymore, what'll you do? You're so young…" Midorima sighed, pulling out a kunai and holding it over a torch. "Sterilizing the blade. Reduces infection risk. Shame I only trained as a medic for two months—no scalpels, so this'll have to do. Bite on a stick later, okay? If you scream and startle me, I might… slip. But it's for your own good. You understand, right… 'big brother'?"

His smile was angelic.

The sensor ninja's face went from purple to ghost-white. That grin looked demonic now.

"You're a devil…" he choked out.

"Huh? Me? I'm innocent!" Midorima turned to Mei. "Mei, he called you a devil."

"He didn't."

Mei, facing away, ears burning, covered her face.

'That kick… might've been excessive. But it's fine… Probably.'

Midorima rolled his eyes. 'Yeah, sure. I didn't knee him in the family jewels.'

"What's your name?"

Time for cleanup. Like butchering livestock—killing was just step one. You still had to skin, gut, and prep the meat.

Right now, he was handling the "aftermath."

"Ōgure Yū."

"Alright, 'Yū-kun'."

"…"

"What's the name of that captain who ditched us to hog the glory?"

Silence.

"Talk fast. Right now, surgery might still be avoidable. Wait too long, and we're chopping something off." Midorima tapped the sterilized kunai against his palm. The firelight glinted off its edge.

"Akizuki," Yū whimpered, tears streaming.

'This is so messed up. I just wanted to lick the captain's boots—how did I end up like this?!'

"Code names are boring. I want his real name."

"C-Can't say."

"Do you really not get your situation?" Midorima kicked his shin. "Keep stalling, and you'll be singing soprano for life."

Yū sobbed. Being bullied by a 14-year-old was humiliating.

'Just beat me up instead!'

But he couldn't say that.

This kid would absolutely take him up on it.

Everyone knew medics had… quirks. Some collected organs. Others practiced surgeries on themselves.

"Mei, he's in too much pain to cooperate. Let's just leave him here and go back. After all, it's 'Yū and Akizuki' who betrayed the Mizukage, not us. Hmm… A new Mizukage might want to purge some 'disloyal' elements, don't you think?"

"…"

'This little bastard's putting words in my mouth!'

Yū swallowed his tears. "I'll… tell you the mission location. But Akizuki's identity is off-limits. That's my offer!"

"Look at you. All that defiance, a kick to the nuts, and you're still spilling the beans. Pathetic." Midorima sighed. 'If only I had a camera. Blackmail material would've been nice.'

"Hey! Stop—what are you—?!" Yū shrieked as Midorima patted him down.

"Gotta pay for our 'emotional damages,' right?" Midorima pocketed Yū's kunai and explosive tags. "I'm broke, you see."
