Chapter 5 - Losing

I am torn in this new place. I want to go out and learn more about where I am. But I am also crushed by my desire to get home quickly so I can get revenge against my sister. I think about what my sister is doing. She came to my room to kill me on the night of her wedding. I don't know how much time has passed since her wedding night, but the longer I am away, the harder it will be to stop her. If she gets to Witherington her husband will be able to protect her. I wonder about how father and brother must feel about the whole thing. To have one daughter poisoned and another be the culprit, they must be very stressed. I also worry that my father will do anything to help protect my sister and not allow this to be taken before the judges of our land. I honestly don't know what I could even want from her, but I have been trying to come up with all my options. First I think about taking back her husband as my own. He would probably resent me, and that would be an even greater pain I would love to see inflected. That would be the ultimate cruelty, to take back what she took from me. I feel desperate about getting back to my world.

I spent the next day walking around. I had the star map out as I walked. People looked at me with annoyance as I tried to navigate these streets. I can't seem to find anything familiar on this map. I walked for a long time, until my feet were tired. I sat down and put the map away. I looked at the people walking past me in Los Angeles. First, there are so many different people. Everyone from Pergamum looked relatively the same. That cannot be said of Los Angeles. I saw people with different clothes, hairstyles, shoes, and even languages they seemed to speak. Also, I had yet to reach the end of the city. I thought at some point I would hit the end of the city, but it's massive. I can't imagine how much larger it is than the main city of Pergamum. Finally, I had yet to any signs of kings, queens, princes, or princesses in this city. I was still trying to figure out who exactly is the leader of Los Angeles. It's still a mystery to me. I also realized that technology is the way of life for people here. Lights worked with the flick of a switch, and hot water or cold water came from nowhere. Carriages were powered by something other than horses. It's all so extreme. On top of that, I thought these rectangular devices held some deeper purpose. I saw everyone with one. I haven't quite cracked the code for why they use it, but they seemed important.

As I walked through the city my rectangle device started making a sound. I looked at it excitedly. I saw a red and a green button. It reacted when I touched it to turn it on, I tried to touch the green button. Red seems to mean stopping here. I pressed the green button and I heard a sound coming from this thing. It suddenly occurred to me, that this must be a communication device! They used it to call the companion who gave me a ride home from the Peacock and today I heard a different voice. I put the thing closer to my ear, mirroring how it seemed others used theirs. I heard the voice of a man. He is yelling. "Two NO CALL NO SHOWS in a row? Are you alive?" I answer "Yes." The man keeps yelling, "Fine, if you didn't die then there is no excuse. YOU ARE FIRED." I asked quietly, "Fired?" The man starts laughing crazily, "Of course, you are fired. I can replace you in a second. Good luck trying to find a new job with your bad attitude. I am not even sad to see you go." Without any warning, the man's voice stopped and the screen went black again. I try to take in what just happened. He seemed to be talking about a job. I realized that perhaps Olivia had a job she worked. And now that I haven't gone to do that job the man said that Olivia is fired. I start to go white. I may not be Olivia, but I don't want to royally fuck up her life while I am in control of things. Once I get sent back to my own country, she will probably come back to her own body. And then what will she make of things?

I got nervous and headed back to Olivia's home. When I arrived I saw a man standing outside of my door waiting for me. I looked at him nervously. What could he want? He gets this smile on his face, "Olivia, rent is due today." I looked at him, "Rent?" The man smiles again, "Yes, rent is due today. No exceptions." I pushed past him when he put his arm down in the doorway to keep me outside, "Nope, give me your check or get out of here." I don't have a check. He looked at me, "It's 1050 a month." I gasped. I know that she does not have that much money in her pocketbook. A few twenties. I pulled them out and the man said, "What am I supposed to do with this? That's not enough. He continued, "If you need an extension, I can call your work to verify that you will be getting enough on your payday." I wince, "I don't have a job." The man looks shocked. "What happened to your job?! I definitely won't give you an extension then." He looked at me and then smirked, "If you want, I can give you a two-week extension." I smiled at him, 'Oh, that would be lovely." He smirked even more, "Yes, well nothing in the world is free." He said this while he grabbed a section of my hair and twirled it in his fingers for a minute. "You are lucky that I like long hair so much." I may be new to this world, but I know exactly what this man means. I felt sick to my stomach. I have never been put in such a terrible position. I pushed him away and said, "Are you out of your mind?!' He fell forward and now looked at me from over his shoulder, "You get your crap and leave right now. I won't leave until you hand me your keys." At this, he grabbed the keys that were in my hands. He opened the door and motioned to my...Olivia's things. "You have 5 minutes to get out of here." I panicked. I didn't know what to grab. So I took a coat, some protein bars, and my toothbrush, and I walked out of the room. The man gave me a middle finger as I left. I cried walking outside in the dark. I had no idea where I should go from here.
