Chapter 18 - Top players

Forsyx walked up to the old man and started handing him one bottle after another, all full of goblin blood.

The old man just opened each bottle and took a sniff. He kept nodding his head, and soon he sniffed the last bottle.

At that moment, a notification popped up in front of him.

Ding!

[You have completed the Butcher Quest 3.]

[Impress with your dedication; the old butcher has given you a low iron-grade weapon.]

Forsyx sighed.

It really was the weapon reward sequence.

He was lamenting his choice when the old man smiled at him and asked, "Hahaha! Young warrior, I love your dedication to these tasks. Do you want to do more tasks?"

Forsyx froze as he raised his eyebrows at the old man. 'What's going on here?'

He had never known of a sequence where the butcher would ask players for more tasks this soon.

Not thinking much, he nodded his head.

The old man clapped his hands, and another worker walked over.

The old man said to the worker, "Lead this young warrior to the second room."

The worker nodded and said, "Follow me, warrior."

Forsyx started walking behind the worker, thinking about all the quests that he would get. 'Was this another butchering task?'

Heck, he did not even see any quest window popping up in front of him. Would this be another butchering quest, or would there be something more?

It didn't take long for them to walk to a small room at the side of the slaughter section—the same area used in the second quest.

They passed the first room, and then the worker opened the second one and motioned him inside. "Young warrior, please wait here."

The moment Forsyx stepped in, he felt multiple stares on him.

There he saw three other people sitting on bench-like platforms attached to the wooden walls.

Interestingly, the three of them were each sitting near different walls, looking at each other.

He walked into the middle of them.

All of them were just staring at him, looking him up and down.

Just from the way they looked at him, it became clear—they were players. Likely those who had completed the task before him.

'Are they the top three? No, that's impossible. Those monsters probably completed the third quest before I even finished my second.'

For sure, there would be at least a player or two between them and him. He wasn't an idiot—he knew those with good teammates would be a tad faster than him.

He looked around the room and sat on the bench next to the door.

Now all four of them were facing different directions.

None of them said anything. They just either stared at each other or messed around in the air, likely checking their status screens.

Forsyx also noted their faces in his mind.

No matter what the task would be, one thing was clear—everyone in this room was at the same level or even higher than him.

At that moment, the guy with blue hair pointed at him and asked, "Oh, you're that bird man, right?"

The other two tilted their heads in confusion.

Forsyx glanced around and knew he couldn't hide—not after the stunts he had pulled.

This guy likely saw him the first time he entered the butcher section, or maybe at the village gate.

He just smiled. "You're talking about this," and the next moment, he shifted into the dumb, wide bird.

All three of them stared at him with wide eyes.

"Wow, cool dude."

"That looks like a shapeshifter class."

"Damn, getting a flying form? Interesting."

Forsyx switched back to human form, and all three of them nodded at him.

Their reactions were much different from the screams he heard outside. He expected this kind of response from them.

After all, these guys in front of him were real pros.

Also, their reaction seemed more amused than shocked—it clearly meant all of them were running some hidden class themselves.

He smiled and said, "Hello, I'm Forsyx."

"Oh, interesting name," said the one to his left with blue hair. He smiled and added, "By the way, I'm Zanarc."

Then the blond guy sitting in front of him said, "I'm Rodium."

At their names, the last guy laughed. "Haha, you guys are boring with your names."

Zanarc countered, "Oh? And what's your name, Mister Not-So-Boring?"

Forsyx had the feeling he'd heard this Zanarc guy's voice somewhere, but it was hard to pinpoint.

The last guy, with red eyes, said in a low tone, "My name is KingOfSimps."

Silence.

Forsyx froze mid-thought. Zanarc's mouth dropped open, and even the calm-looking Rodium rubbed his eyes.

The first to break the silence was Zanarc. "What the hell, dude? I did try every variation of 'simp' before, but it didn't work!"

KingOfSimps rubbed his finger under his nose. "Haha, true—but I used 'Simps' and it worked."

Zanarc slapped his forehead. "Fck, I missed the name because of that single S!"

Forsyx sighed and asked the dreaded question. "Hey, KOS, how much time did it take you?"

Rodium gave a thumbs-up. "KOS is a good one."

KingOfSimps shouted, "What the hell! Why did you change my name to KOS? What even is KOS?!"

Zanarc smirked and said, "Oh, if you want, we could just call you Simp."

Rodium nodded. "Yeah, don't expect us to say that long-ass name every time."

KOS just grabbed his hair in frustration and screamed, "Ahh! But I spent almost a day coming up with this name!"

Zanarc burst out laughing. "Hahaha, serves you right, Simp."

Forsyx rubbed his forehead. He never imagined even these guys would be so into this kind of stuff. But well… in a way, it was fun—especially after all that killing.

Not wasting more time, he asked, "So, are we 1–4 or 5–8?"

The moment he asked this, both KOS and Zanarc turned to Rodium. It became clear Rodium was the first one in the room.

Rodium shook his head. "When I started the third quest, the butcher already had 30 liters of blood."

Zanarc cursed, "Shit, even you saw that? Fck, just how fast were those guys?"

Well, Forsyx got his answer about why they were in room two… But he had a feeling something big was about to happen soon.

At this moment, the door beside him opened once again.
