Chapter 9 - chapter 9–The Edge of silence

The city was quiet tonight, yet heavy with unseen tension. Daki roamed the streets with her hands buried in the oversized pockets of her black jacket. Her eyes flicked from one building to the next, searching… but not for a demon this time. Something else tugged at her senses.

Suddenly, she stopped. Her eyes narrowed.

High above—a 100-story building in the heart of the city. A strange, sharp energy was calling out from there.

In a flash, she vanished.

Wind howled as Daki appeared on the rooftop, crouched in the shadows of a satellite tower. Her glowing blue eyes scanned the rooftop.

At the edge stood a boy—barely twenty. Pale, trembling, his toes hovered over the ledge. One more step, and he'd fall.

His name... Eun Ju.

He didn't notice her at first, too lost in whatever darkness filled his heart. But then—

A low, amused chuckle echoed from the shadows behind him.

Eun Ju flinched and whipped around.

There she was. A tall, stunning woman, leaning casually against the wall like she'd been there all night. Her expression unreadable, lips curved in a half-smile.

"I don't mean to interrupt you," Daki said casually, her voice rich with sarcasm, "I promise—I won't even breathe."

Eun Jun froze.

His eyes widened, heart pounding in confusion. Who the hell is she? he thought. I'm about to die, and she's… laughing?

Shouldn't she be trying to stop me?

Daki's smirk widened. "I'm so amused to finally witness a suicide in real life. It's like… performance art."

She took a few steps closer, the wind playing with her long dark hair.

"I can't wait to see what happens to that cute body of yours when you fall. Bones—shattered. Organs—splattered. Maybe someone will scream, maybe not. But guess what's worse than a painful death?" She leaned her head slightly, eyes glowing.

"Being warm food," she whispered. "You won't be there to witness it, but I will. Waiting for you… in hell."

Her laughter echoed against the rooftop walls, dark and twisted like a song only demons understood.

Eun Jun backed up, breath shaking. "W-What's wrong with you…?"

Daki slid her hand slowly up her neck, cracking it as her nails glowed faint blue. Her pupils shifted—reptilian, otherworldly. "If you're going to die," she said softly, "let me have the honor."

Before he could blink, she pushed him.

Hard.

He flew off the edge.

Eun Jun screamed, arms flailing as he plummeted, buildings rushing past him. 100th floor… 95… 92…

"I don't want to die!" he cried out, voice ripping through the wind.

87th floor.

Suddenly—black wings exploded through the air.

A blur.

Daki grabbed his arm mid-air like a claw from the heavens—or hell.

Eun Jun's eyes widened in terror. She wasn't human. Her wings stretched wide, leathery and vast. Her skin shimmered like obsidian armor. Two sharp horns curled from her skull, and her eyes glowed a deep, soul-piercing blue.

They hovered in the air, the wind screaming around them.

Eun Jun was shaking in her grip, too stunned to speak.

Daki looked down at him, her voice cold and slow. "You said you didn't want to die. Funny. Now I have to decide if you live or die.
